I've already settled on the Incisor and Vindicator for my squadies, my problem now is with the Shotgun (Grunt excluded), SMG, and Pistol.

It sort of goes like this for my playthroughs:

AR: Vindicator
Sniper: Incisor
SMG: Locust (Usually running with Zaeed for Disruptor ammo, so that helps with shields over the Tempest)
Pistol: Carnifex (Better DPS then Phalanx, never liked the Predator)
Shotgun: Geth Plasma Shotgun (Range per damage over running into fire..even when I'm still being shot at by everything)

Edited: Thanks

I believe the Predator is a better pistol for squadmates. And the Carnifex has slightly higher DPS than the Phalanx.

I would use the GPS for your squadmates. Even without charging up shots, they'll still deal significant damage from a range.

I can see the Carnifex, but how so for the Predator?

Edit: I think I decided on the GPS, range wise it puts enough power out.

I tested using tempest vs locust on Reaper IFF using 4 different sets of squadmates and there was no difference in time to complete mission. I always give them the locust because it has an armor damage boost vs tempest, but really you won't see any difference.

I think the Geth Shotgun is better for squad because they can fight from range. With other shotguns Jacob and Jack will just charge out there and get killed.

I'm liking the Tempest on squad mates for suppressive shield stripping, although to be fair, with Zaeed around or Garrus/Miranda's Overload, I can see why that wouldn't be necessary.

I'm agreeing with you on the GPS, they don't run out as much (implying when you forget to put them to cover).

Tempest and locust, to me, are interchangeable for the squadmates. I honestly don't see any real difference in killing speed. I actuallly tend to switch between the two depending on the mission. Locust has a better armor damage boost than the Tempest, while the latter has a better Shield damage boost. So, Blood Pack/husk missions? Locust. Blue Suns/Geth missions? Tempest.

As for pistols, I usually pick the Carnifex. It's got better damage per shot than the Predator, and a higher ROF than the Phalanx. Plus, squadmates don't have to worry about ammo, so the low ammo count of the Carnifex isn't an issue.

As for the SGs, I'd recommend either the Eviscerator or the GPS. The GPS is a better weapon, simply because of the range factor, but I think a plasma "cannon" that's called a shotgun doesn't really belong. It feels way outta place to me, so I tend to avoid it in my games. But that's my personal opinion, and I think the GPS is the best SG for squaddies, because they can fight from farther away, giving them more safety, since the enemies focus on the closest target, and having squaddies back some reduces the damage they take.

From my experience, the only weapon that can make a real difference is the Incisor Sniper Rifle. Other than that the weapons are really interchageable and I do not see any difference at all, which is why I pick what looks better to me. And GPS is the best SG for squadmates, mainly because it is not a real shotgun at all.

Pistols - irrelevant, I do not think I ever bothered to switch to the Pistol for my squadmates
SMG - I usually give them Tempest
AR - Mattock for Grunt (+Claymore = ultimate Scottish combo), Vindicator for Samara because it looks much better than Mattock in her hands IMHO, Garrus and Zaeed always use SR anyway.
SR - Widow for Legion, Incisor for everyone else
SG - Claymore for Grunt, GPS for everyone else (though I do not use Tali, Jack or Jacob at all)

Submachine Gun: Tempest every time, but I don't recruit Tali until after I have Samara and Thane, so most of the game is spent with my machinegun-toting squad mates(Kasumi <3) carrying the Locust.

Pistol: I give them the Carnifex or the Phalanx, but honestly, I don't ever have my squad mates using their pistols. I think I switched Mordin to a pistol for his loyalty mission, but other than that, nothing doing.

Shotgun: Geth Plasma Shotgun, always, always, always. Jack becomes so much more useful with it, and I do love me some Jack. The only exception is Grunt, who gets the Claymore because he! AM! KROGAAAAAN!

Assault Rifle: I give Grunt and Samara the Mattock. With Garrus, Legion, and Zaeed, I don't even care, since they only use snipers anyway.

Sniper Rifle: Everybody gets the Incisor except for Shepard. I don't ever spend the resources to get the Widow for Legion, it just isn't worth it to me with the reliability of the Incisor. Zaeed especially becomes absurdly powerful with it. So much damage.

The last couple of times I've used Legion on the SM with him having the widow.   Have not compared to Incisor, but he takes out some guys by himself.  Also useful for those two Scions on the platforms ( saved me some ammo ).  Everywhere else the Incisor for all squadmates that can use them ( take Zaeed and Garrus on Tali recruitment ).

It is really difficult to test which weapons are best - only Bioware could set up some test to "prove" which are better.  I imagine that they did just that and maybe adjusted the damage factors on the weapons so that the later weapons were better than the earlier ones.

I usually equip my squadmates more for style than anything else, as well as keeping a sense of continuity with cutscenes that shows them with weapons...

Miranda - Locust / Predator
Jacob - Evi / Carniflex
Mordin - Tempest / Predator
Zaeed - Avenger / Mantis
Kasumi - Locust / Phalanx
Garrus - Vindicator / Incisor (which so obviously matches his armor)
Grunt - GAR / Claymore (GAR sits well on his back and looks cool with it, and not a bad shield breaker, but Mattock for his LM)
Jack - Katana / Predator
Tali - GPS / Carniflex
Thane - Viper / Shuriken
Samara - Vindicator / Tempest
Legion - Avenger / Widow

These are essentially my thoughts on the matter. However, for squad cryo builds, I prefer the tempest to the locust, because teammates tend to fire more rounds at a time with the tempest, making it more likely that they'll freeze targets.

I used to do that, my first Insanity Run was with an Adept, and everyone had Geth Pulse Rifles. (Everyone)

Regardless I've decided to use what I edited the topic post to be. Personally I never liked the Mattock.

Sits way too low on Legion... really wanted to equip it on him, but that just bothered me too much. I can't help it.

Unmodded choices:
Pistol - Carinfex
SMG - Locust
Shotgun - GPS
AR - Mattock
SR - Viper or Incisor

Now that I've started playing with the .ini, it gets more involved.  Zaeed gets the Revenant for his AR, for example.  Jacob and Tali had their pistols replaced with ARs to make the cutscenes a little less goofy (I can see a pistol sidearm, but not the magically-summoned ARs), so Jacob gets a Mattock and Tali gets the Geth rifle and the Geth shotgun for kicks.
