We all have to make sacrifices. If the voice acting matters to you that much, there's your solution.Nighteye2 wrote...

There is a really easy solution for all those who don't like the vioce acting:
press mute, turn on subtitles, enjoy.
However let those who like the vioce acting (like me) enjoy it.
That only works if only the player is muted, and the option also replaces the dialogue wheel by a full-text menu.
Otherwise, you are left with only downsides. You miss out on all the good things that have been sacrificed for the VA, as well as the VA itself. >_>
Voices. Are they really worth it?

Are you going to say that truth is decided by the majority next or what?
"Truth" is a very silly word to be assigning towards any preference regarding voice acting.
That isn't about VA, but the silly reasoning that unless the majority thinks like you, you don't count.
majority = largest market which ='s most profits...so basicly yes...when it comes to things like this minority does not count.

Would it have been more valid if he used the expression "used" instead of wasted? It is still the same reasoning.
"I feel the resources were wasted" or "I hate VO because...", instead of my above example of "I hate X, so remove X and add more Y".
But the statement was simply that muting the VO isn't as favorable as having none in the first place.
It is very much wasted money on someone that mutes it.

I would also guess it won't. Even if the VO in DA:2 stinks they will probably keep it and just try to make it better.TS2Aggie wrote...

VO I feel will become the standard unless they ever do another multiple origins game.

Or they'll do a VO, mulitple origins game and people will complain about how some of the VO don't accurately represent their race.
It's a crapshoot.

I can't see any game company doing that simply due to the sheer cost that it would require to do VO for multiple PC's. But regardless there will always be those people who think "RPG's should be this way and never ever change cuz change is bad".

Games are just going to start to be more expensive. I mean look at computer games they are starting to cost as much as most console games now. There are computer games that are coming out costing 60 bucks instead of 50 or 40.kylecouch wrote...

Pft, still cheap! I remember paying over 9,000 (it was probably 80+) dollars for Super Mario RPG!

****ing Chrono Trigger was also damn expensive
And you know what was worse about these two games than DA 2 and other modern games.
THEY NEVER WENT DOWN IN PRICE. EVER.

It makes me sad. I'd rather have twice as many conversations than a voiced protagonist. I'm assuming a voiced protagonist means twice the resources used for each conversation.
Twice the cost for recording. But that would assume that the writers could make twice the dialog without it dropping significantly in quality.
Edit: Or rather three times, since there is both male an female.

I would personaly rather have one emotional and well scripted scene with the PC, then five scenes where the PC just stands there like a cyborg not reacting to any situation.

Sometimes it really does pay off though, I thought giving your player character a voice in Fable 3 was one of the biggest improvements that game made over it's predecessors. As for Dragon Age, well it's always going to be a point of debate for fans here, with so many being fond of and remembering the days of BG and so forth. Despite ManShep I remain confident Bioware will get the casting right though...
