Ok... I kinda get where u are coming from but i mean you can do the same thing without voice actors. I mean dragon age wasn't bad without the VO. Not to say DA2 won't be good with it.

In something with a narrator, sure.  Like:

And he roared with barely contained rage, "I will end you."

Is different than the typical CRPG display of "I will end you."

If your character is mad at the person because the other person bad mouthed your character it is easy to tell your guy would yell "I will end you!"

Wait just one freaking minute here!!!!!!!!!

Is THAT actual footage from ME1 or 2???  (yes, never played it)  And is THAT what we're getting now in DA2????????

Please say that's not so.

Context clues like that are important, but they aren't going to exist for every situation.  Sometimes a character's motivations are internal, and without an audible tone there is a world of doubt that could potentially exist without a narrator's description.

That is Renegade FemShep from Mass Effect 1.  Why not actually look on YouTube for more examples, it's not as if they're rare.  A famous one is "Shepard is a Jerk."

And personally I can't wait for DA:2's system.  The tone icons strike me as a much better way to go about things than Paragon/Renegade.

That's ME1 footage. DA2 will be different because we will have tone indicators. ME2 removed these actions from dialogue (which was a big problem with ME1). For Shepard to act in ME2 like that (with the gun) you would have to choose an "interrupt" option.

Mass Effect 1. And I don't know how close it is to what we'll get in DA2.

I'd like the entire paraphrasing thing gone, but that's just my personal preference.

I have also never played ME1 or 2 because i am more a fan of Fanasty RPG games than Science Fiction games. Yeah i mean it was kinda cool but i mean it also puts words in the character's mouth that the person might not have wanted to be there.

No they don't.  They would if literally the only difference between Mass Effect and Dragon Age would be the presence of a voiceover.

If they released "Dragon Age: Silent Protagonist Edition" and "Dragon Age: Voiced Protagonist Edition" and then compared sales, you might have a point.   But since the games are wildly different, you don't.

I play both and will always play both.  But since I prefer science fiction to fantasy, I will always prefer Mass Effect to Dragon Age simply because of the world it exists in.  Bioware could make Dragon Age a twitch-based melee fighting game and Mass Effect a party-based traditional RPG and I'd still prefer Mass Effect because of the setting.

There are a lot of factors that go into purchasing (or prefering) a game beyond whatever feature a poster decided to hop on a soap box over.

That's ME1. They improved it in ME2 and it's different with DA2. DA2 has icons that tell you how the dialogue will go, like a mask will have you respond sarcastically to the person and an olive branch shows you try diplomacy instead. If you pick a number of sarcastic options, Hawke "becomes" sarcastic and dialogue ingame is said with a sarcastic tone instead.

They also made it so the above option isn't "good", the middle option isn't useless and the bottom option isn't "evil".

Wow.  Just, wow.

Is the part where the dialogue choice is "what" and the VA actually says "I haven't been shot in the head enough to consider that idea" what we're going to have?

Because, whether we're going to have a voiced character or a silent one, I'd like to know what I'm going to say - not just the general idea of it.  (I realize this may be a different discussion, but it came up here, so I'm asking here)

(Picture indicating sarcasm) "You've got to be kidding"

No, you're citing facts not in evidence.  Which is worthless.

Don't get me wrong, I've heard compelling arguments for silent protagonists and silent NPCs in general - Sylvius comes to mind - yours is not one of them.

It's still the dialogue wheel, as you know, but instead of the paragon or renegade responses, there will be a tone indicator for each respones. So you will know if it's going to be flirty, or violent, or whatever. But you won't know exactly what they say still.

I hope there is a similar system like the interrupt in DA2, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Voice acting though is tricky. Though you feel more immersed since the voice acting can add more depth, it can also completely turn you off if you don't like the voice. I seem to be the odd ball out here on the forums, as everyone said the male shepard voice sucked while the female was great - I loved the male shepard and couldn't stand the female one.

I'm sure the male one will be fine, I hope. I just hope they got for a more...delicate female voice. Jennifer Hale sounds really husky and deep, I didn't like it.

Unit's sold doesn't tell you anything about the statement, it just tells you people bought more of those games. Maybe the game was better as a whole, maybe it had better marketing. You can't use data selectively like that.

You are right but at least then i know what my guy is really going to say... If i wanted to tell the person they are not ready to fight without putting my gun up to their head i would have picked the same thing as the one they picked that shoved the gun in the guys face. How could i tell what my guy is going to do before that?

Well she was a hardened space marine. If femshep was played by someone with a soft, delicate voice I'd have thought twice before headbutting a krogan.

No, he selected "what" and the VA said "Conrad, I haven't been shot in the head nearly enough times to make that seem like a good idea"  Go check it, at 1:02.

So long as the actual words are "You've got to be kidding me" I suppose I'm okay.  If the actual words spoken become "what have you been smoking?", I'm going to have a HUGE problem here.

With the icons they added for dialogue.
+ they fixed it with ME2, there isn't any surprise gun moments.
