It seems that the vast majority of strippers in clubs in both games are Asari maidens. I've only seen one human female dancing for a patron.

Let's face it, Asaris were written in the game for things like this.

From conversations with many asari I get the impression it's very common for them to work as dancers, while humans are new to the scene and not generally as liked.

Apart from the fact it's much more socially accepted to take on an asari as an 'entertainer' than any other species, it's worth noting that all species find them attractive, whereas the same can't be said of other species' views of humans.

There's also a suggestion, from an overheard conversation, that other species see asari as looking like the female version of their own species, so the only reason they look human to Shepard is because s/he is human.

This concept is kinda creepy for me...makes me imagine that Asari could justifyably look like space-slugs, or some other type of ugly alien "for real" and just mess with our minds to make themselves look so nice. I can't imagine getting a slimy slug-kiss from a Jabba the hutt looking alien and not knowing it... Yuck!

...still like Asari though. ;)

Well, it was a conversation fueled at least partly by alcohol, so I don't know how much truth there is to it.

Some asari are better looking than others so even if it is true and some kind of mindplay, it's not like they have complete control of what others see. Asari certainly aren't slugs. My guess is it'd just make their features appear more similar to the ideals of the other species... kind of like beer goggles.

"Middle aged" Asari, I was under the impression that most Asari become strippers and sex workers and/or mercs during thier 'maiden stage', the Asari bartender on Illium ( sorry I can't remember her name at the moment ) hints as much during a conversation. It seems to be a rebellious stage that they all go through early on during thier long life spans before they enter the Matron stage and decide to settle down annd start having babies.

Aria also hints about the Asari and thier reputation for thier sexuality, if you ask her about her history with the Patriarch she mentions that she and her Asari troops used certain skills that 'her' species like to downplay and if you ask her to be more specific she mentions that Patriarchs men had grown accustomed to the perks of having Asari around.

it is the future and scifi right?

edit: this is the sign above Chora's den in Me1

It's ten months after the release of ME2, and people are still taking the bachelor party conversation seriously.

Video games are of archtypes, there isn't any room for middle ground in media like this.

- Asari = hot alien babes. Designed to be fan service etc whatever they certainly fill the purpose.

- Batarians = Hideous things that you are supposed to hate, no room for new friendship.

- Quarians = Mysterious gypsy type.

- Krogan = Over the top dumb brutes

etc etc... the asari are playing their exaggerated part in the universe when they are the hot gamer fantasy of alien life in the galaxy.

I have had some time to think about my last post and I think I might have mis-understood the point of the topic.

Maybe the reason why most of the erotic dancers in the ME Universe are Asari is because the people who operate these clubs know that everyone is atrracted to the Asari. You higher a female human stripper and thier is no guarantee that Turians, Salarians, Krogans, Quarians, etc may find her attractive. Same thing can be said for female Turians, Salarians, etc. Yet everyone like the Asari, everyone thinks thye are attractive. Then there is the added bonus that Asari are asexual and as such they apeal just as much to females as the do males. Long story short, if you live in the ME Universe and own a strip club then highering Asari strippers is a no brainer, your quaranteed to do good business while going with any other female spieces can be seen as risky gamble.

I wish Bioware could have come up with an idea for a better alien then "lol space-lesbians/strippers".

Though they did get a little better in Mass Effect 2.

edit: I don't hate the asari. But they really feel like they belong in a different setting than Mass Effect.

In a nutshell if we had female Krogan pole dancers in the nightclubs a lot of players would be like .

biscuit that's an interesting piece of information about Asari resembling other female species. It probably has to do with them having some type of essence that attracts potential melders

Female Twi'leks are commonly sold when they are young for the purpose of being dancers. This is because most species find the Twi'lek females incredibly attractive. However, everyone pretty much thinks the male Twi'leks are the most hideous thing ever.

In ME 1 Liara mentions that Asari don't view sexuality the same way as other species, and so are more willing to engage in activities seen as overtly sexual than other races. It's the same impression you can get from talking to a number of Asari. It seems like a significant percentage do this sort of thing when they're still young, which has made the other races of the galaxy view Asari a certain way despite how they view themselves, hence the incorrect rumors of Asari promiscuity/sexuality Liara also mentions in the first game. It fits in reasonably with their species as a whole. They reproduce differently, tend towards diplomacy and moderation (yet are the strongest biotics), and have very long lives. You can tell Bioware understands how the fans will see the whole thing, though, as perception of Asari gets addressed often throughout the series, several of these cases even involving Bioware having some fun at their own expense. In one of my favorite mentions of it, Liara skirts with the fourth wall saying some young human males have grown an unhealthy obsession with Asari because of this.

Asari in their maiden stage are like teenagers.

What do 90% of female teenagers do? They go out clubbing and get drunk.

Asari arn't as different as we are ^^
