Not sure if there is a thread up of this.
I've seen a gameplay video and instead of assigning squaddies to attack certain enemies, you just play it like Diablo or Vindictus. How is this going to work? Will there still be a pause and assign feature?

yes, you can still pause and use the radial menu to assign actions.

one video shows this, I believe.

as for being hack and slash.........I don't see how it is anymore so than Origins. Just that the moves are faster and flashier.

From what I've gathered:

Instead of having to wait 5 seconds for a move to activate, it's almost instant. As well as the removal of the "shuffle" that had characters dance around enemies for 5 seconds before doing anything. This makes the game appear almost hack & slash but it plays almost the same as Origins.

If you were on the console, you now get the ability to move companions through the radial menu.

If you were on the PC, they removed the extremely-zoomed out camera but otherwise it remains the same with a few changes.

yeah.. one of the great goals for Bioware it seems... fast and flashy moves, make every press on the console controller something cool happen... the new rules for a RPG.

No, it doesn't play like Diablo. I've never played Vindictus, so I wouldn't know what that's like.

You mean you'd rather play / watch something that's not entertaining and slow?

It's Origins, in a flashier and less clunky package. 'Nuff said.

Also, tactical overhead camera has been removed in favor of a more detached third-person view.

Well duh. Everyone knows no true RPG allows characters to attack without idling around for ten seconds first. And when they do attack, they must shuffle, not run.

That assumes that flashy is the same as entertaining. In Fallout: NV, there was no flashy combat, but it was entertaining.

As for slow, it's no better or worse than fast.

It's not a hack and slash. I said quietly to myself for the 12th time.

Yah know what? Yeah. It is a hack and slash, but the story and characters are still of Bioware quality writing.

What is your opinion now?

Heads exploding and limbs being shot off isn't flashy?

I believe the term is "Gory".

Nope.

--------------------------

I have to wonder at this conversational strategy. If I said "Avatar isn't a gory movie" would you two say "A helicopter blowing up isn't gory?"

I mean, unless you think I'm unaware that a helicopter blows up, I'm not sure what you expect my reaction to be. By saying that X isn't flashy, it should be assumed that either I don't find any element of X flashy or that if there is an element of X that's flashy, I don't think it's strong enough to define X.

...no, I didn't find Fallout: NV's combat flashy.

Why are you people asking me these questions? It's not like I could miss the slo-mo deaths.

Now, if you want to state that *you* found it flashy, feel free. But stop asking me these questions!

Is it flashy
here or there?

It is not flashy
here or there.
It is not flashy anywhere.

It is not flashy in a house?
It is not flashy with a mouse?

It is not flashy
in a house.
It is not flashy
with a mouse.
It is not flashy
here or there.
It is not flashy
anywhere.

Is it flashy
in a box?
Is it flashy
with a fox?

Not in a box.
Not with a fox.
Not in a house.
Not with a mouse.
It is not flashy
here or there.
It is not flashy anywhere.

Please stop talking about NV.

Bethesda OR Fallout games have nothing to do with Bioware, we get it its a good game. But having every thread go into an off-topic mega discussion about how NV does so-and-so and every RPG should be like it is getting old.

I wonder what you find flashy then?

Since you answered the question of someone that clearly considers NV flashy.

Cool things happened in Baldur's Gate II when you clicked a spell as a high level mage.  I don't know about you but summoning a demon that attacked everything in sight was fun.  So what's your point?

Origin it's a mix between realtime and turn based combat. When you attack someone you can't control your character anymore(Outside of giving him order) .

So i guess they're simply giving you more freedom of your character while in combat. You're not waiting for the other *player* to move his chess piece before attacking.

Divinity 2 would be a great exemple ...
World of Warcraft
Age of Conan
Dark Age of Camelot
The Witcher
Origin
NWN
Baldur Gate

They all share a different kind of gameplay . But they're all hack and slasher.
You just can't queue up 200 attack and  take a shower before it's over.
