Not really seen that sort of thing in the trailers, or even associate DA:O with hack and slash. Though I do get over excited about chests, though. Not gonna lie.

additionally, I'd be very careful about drawing conclusions from shaky bootleg footage of prerelease demos.
Is the new bioware's "buy before seeing any gameplay if you want to have the full game" policy is more safe?
i didn't know march 11th was already tomorrow, boy time sure does fly
No, but January 11th is only a few weeks away, and that's the pre-order signature edition cut off date. Given that we have Xmas between in that timeframe as well, it's looking increasingly likely that we won't have game play footage before the signature edition cut off date.

Anyway . . . would combining hack and slash gameplay with RTS combat be so bad? Seems like it could be an improvement.

Actually it's over 7 weeks away, and marketing doesn't take a break all the way through December just because of xmas. I would be very surprised if we didn't see gameplay before that date, my mind would be (as they say) boggled.

Its a fact that the PC version of Origins was balanced differently than
the console version in part because of the Tactical camera and the
hardware capabilities of the PC allowing more enemies on screen at once.
Its the reason why friendly fire is on in the default difficulty in
Origin for PC but not on the consoles.
Well they are being developed alongside each other this time so that could change how they are balanced, but I mostly mentioned the PC in that way because you seem to be under the impression (correct me if I'm wrong) that should the PC and console version be the same this time around (which isn't the case, but still) then it will equal a less tactical game with less pause and play.
I just don't see that being the case, regardless of whether they up the amount of monsters for the PC. Despite it's shortcomings the console version of Origins was still very much a tactical affair, it was just a pain in the rear getting some of the more detailed stuff executed. The PC won't suffer that problem at least. Also the friendly fire thing is sort of diminished by the fact it could be put upto 100% by upping the difficulty, it was probably off by default more to do with the fiddliness of the radial menu and such more than anything?
Anyway I don't see how any of this equates to a dumbed down DA2 so far. It's possible it could result in tactical play being too easy on PC (if the monsters aren't upped) but I would imagine they will balance it to prevent that, and everything I have seen from the demo doing the rounds suggests that won't be the case.

Show, don't tell.
I agree! Marketing is a pain, I wish they could just show us everything we want to know, or at least give more detailed info on certain features/gameplay. Unfortunately that isn't the case, and with DA2's development obviously being quite different to DAO's in terms of development time if nothing else I'm not really surprised it's being marketed at a different pace as well. Most AAA games release gameplay in advance of their release and I would be very surprised if DA2 was an exception to that rule.

Vague. Quite vague.
But it's still an answer. A vague answer.

Poor Bioware will never live it down.
A question to put forward: How many other trailers from that year do you remember?
One? None?
One trailer moved Origins from "yawn, boring fantasy" to "Huh whanow?" for a lot of people. Even if it bothered some folks, it absolutely did it's job: it made people sit up and pay attention to a game that was, for many, "old news" by that point.
I wouldn't want to live it down even if the chance were offered.

Yes! And after they show the gameplay, they can tell us more about the story and characters. Because, you know, not everyone cares about the camera angle or how many buttons you need to push to play the game.

What is this blasphemy, Maria. How can I enjoy the story and characters when the camera angle makes my face twitch every five seconds? Have you no respect for the console players with their less-fancy camera angle? I mean, really come on..and the buttons! Don't even go there sister..

Can't wait for some juicy gameplay footage so we can move on to more important matters like.. why does Isabela have a pant phobia and will Varric be a love interest?

It's true, Leonia. I was playing Civilization V the other day and you can scroll out so far you can see the entire continent. That's why Civ V is the (second) greatest RPG ever!

I'm both hoping and dreading that the companion characters get the same marketing focus that ME2's squad got. Hoping because the characters are one of the best aspects of a Bioware game and never fail to get me rediculously hyped for it's arrival. And dreading because I really want to avoid spoiling myself this time around, in particular as to the number and details of companions!

Prince of Persia
Dead Space
Gears of War
Fallout 3
E3 2008 was a great year for trailers.

I doubt the DA 2 companions will get as much attention. Some ME 2 companions got their own TV spots.

I actually quite liked Sacred Ashes Morrigan, maybe because she looked more tomboyish. I have a soft spot for ladies that look like pretty boys. No don't look at me like that.. *goes back to looking at pictures of Starbuck*

Seriously, they did such an amazing job on that trailer. I get goosebumps every time she says "because that's what I was made for."
I do think Morrigan looked kind of weird though. Her eyes are sort of...bulbous.

Yeah it doens't seem likely, especially given that at the end of the day ME2 was all about building your team, the companions in that were the main focus of the game more even than usual. Still, DAO had a trailer for each companion I believe, so that isn't out of the question!

Yeah I'll agree with this, SA Morrigan never bothered me as much as it seems to have some people, there is maybe one shot where she doesn't look quite right. Jack is probably my favourite female ME2 character as well actually. /tangent. Edit: Basically I agree with the ninja's above me in regards to Jack.

So the "This is the new sh*t" trailer is Bioware's answer to the Taco Bell dog? Brand awareness over substance? Not that I have a problem with that. It does put it in a different context, though. Sort of like Geico or Aflac commercials.
I mean, the gecko or duck really don't have anything to do with insurance. Just like Marilyn Manson didn't have much to do with DA:O gameplay.
