"The new s**t"

Poor Bioware will never live it down.

A question to put forward: How many other trailers from that year do you remember?

One? None?

One trailer moved Origins from "yawn, boring fantasy" to "Huh whanow?" for a lot of people. Even if it bothered some folks, it absolutely did it's job: it made people sit up and pay attention to a game that was, for many, "old news" by that point.

I wouldn't want to live it down even if the chance were offered.

Any publicity is good publicity. Is this why your marketing team has a stick up it's ass about gameplay?

The only youtube video i vaguely remember is the angry german kid. And the one game i remember from few recent years is Limbo of the Lost. I suppose together it's three data points supporting the notion extreme stupid is memorable.

However, i wouldn't go as far as presume that such perceived stupidity translates into anything more but "point and laugh" reaction. As opposed to say, making people buy your product when you've just instilled into them the idea it's something quite stupid.

Of course, if you're fully satisfied with just getting laughed at, then i guess it's job well done.

Soon. Quite soon.

Vague. Quite vague.

But it's still an answer. A vague answer.

I'm discontent. Vaguely discontent.

Last time Mike said that we'll get a trailer 'soon' (to be precise, it was 'pretty darned soon') we got it in 2 HOURS! So I'm thinking we are actually getting a trailer soon. :P

god Jack looked so ugly in her trailer....almost as ugly as Morrigan in sacred ashes

I actually quite liked Sacred Ashes Morrigan, maybe because she looked more tomboyish. I have a soft spot for ladies that look like pretty boys. No don't look at me like that.. *goes back to looking at pictures of Starbuck*

uhm....why does that (somehow scaringly) remind me of the Anita Blake novels?

Leonia you kinda scare me

I'm pretty sure that he was saying that he'll accept being laughed at here because the impact of that trailer in terms of brand awareness (recall the Dragon Age development cycle?  Five years is a long time) at large was significant.

I can see why one might find such trade-off acceptable, but from reactions to that particular marketing stunt in places outside of BioWare's own or RPG-related boards... i don't believe it's anywhere near as clear cut. In other words, it's not matter of getting positive interest elsewhere and derrisive laughter just here, the latter appears to be quite more universal than that.

It's interesting that despite claims made in this thread how the controversy was sooo beneficial for the brand, the DA2 advertising so far is in comparison quite more subdued and by the numbers. Although granted, they still have few months to make some "this is even newer ****" video. Maybe Lady Gaga will sing this time?

And it gave someone the opportunity to provide us with an excellent "remix":

I'm glad to know we'll be getting some good gameplay trailers soon for DA2 (they can be so effective; the Deus Ex 3 trailer I saw was sweet stuff).

Regarding "the new ****" though: yes, I remember that trailer. I also remember how it made me regard Dragon Age as garbage, and how it took months for reviews to convince me that it was just poor marketing and that I shouldn't have discarded it. I also remember watching several other videos, one featuring the first encounter with Morrigan and one featuring the Tower of Ishal as the narrator talked about the new injury mechanic and the persistent party buff spells, but that was before "The New ****" lost me.
