Did I become a Arcane Warrior or not?

Though I already completed the "Nature of the Beast" quest. I went back to the Ruins to place the phylactery on the alter to free the spirit. I said yes that I wanted to be an Arcane Warrior and my Elf Mage was given the memories to become one.

My quest was updated and Alister had 2 points of approval. But I am unable to hold a weapon which is exclusive to Arcane Warriors nor do I see any of their specail abilities available.

Did I do something wrong or is there something else I need to do?

It doesn't actually make you an Arcane Warrior, it just teaches you the specialization (which means it's saved to your player profile for this and all future games).

To become an Arcane Warrior, you must spend a specialization point on it as well.

That's the problem. I don't see "Arcane Mage" icon on my character record nor am I given the oppurtunity to spend a point on Arcane Warrior.

You only get 2 specialization points. One at lvl. 7 and another at lvl. 14. What level are you?

You can also only have two specializations. If you're a Spirit Healer + Shapeshifter, a Spirit Healer + Blood Mage or a Shapeshifter + Blood Mage, you'll have to make another mage or get one of the respec tomes from Awakening/Witch Hunt/Golems or the Origins mod if you're on the PC. The spirit just unlocked the tree for your account, it didn't make your mage one, despite how the text makes it sound.
If you only have one spec chosen, when you open your character sheet or level up, the specialization boxes should all be lit and you should have a number (1 or 2) in the box on the far upper right of the interface.

Or if you don't want to re-roll a new mage, if you're on a PC, you can get a mod to respecialize your character.

Arcane Warrior and Blood Mage are the top level mage specs to get.

The only reason to get Spirit Healer is really group heal, and revival.

With a mod shape shifter is better, but if I could only get one it would be Blood Mage.

alright well I figured out how to add the Arcane Warrior talents into my character profile. The coolest thing about it is that it uses my magic attribute to be the requisite for stronger weapons and armors that were requisite by strength attribute only.

Does that mean the higher my magic attribute is the harder my Arcane Warrior Mage can physically hit with a melee weapon? If so then does that mean I no longer have to add strength points to my mage if I want him to hit harder with a sword?

Don't need to add points to strength to begin with, my AW's in Heavy Armor with a Strength score of 11. Unless you want them to wear gear before taking Combat Magic.

Though yes, a higher Magic score means higher numbers on a hit. It's getting that hit that's the biggest problem for an AW.

correct. unfortunately the  arcane warrior has a very low attack rating . to compensate you need to ad dexterity ( 30 in orgins 50 in awakening)

Played right, an Arcane Warrior is bundles of fun. You can tank up there in the front, or use your staff and stand at the back, firing away as before. It must be noted that heavier weapons and armour are going to cause fatigue penalties when attacking, so you will be able to cast less spells. Still, there is nothing like using your staff to cast Cone of Cold, then switching to Vigilance (best sword in Awakening) and finishing off the enemies by hand. Satisfying stuff. Also, stuffing your mage into the Sentinel Armour makes you look darn awesome!

That depends on the armor you're wearing.  Certain armors, like Evon the Great's Mail paired with Wade's Superior Dragonbone gloves and boots, have such a stamina bonus that you actually end up ahead.  Even Warden Commander Armor is not bad.

There are some great mods for arcane warriors, if the OP has the PC version.  Special weapons and armor plus mods that allow you to cast with weapon drawn, that open up talent trees in dual wield or 2H, etc.  I was playing around with my 2H AW this weekend and she is such a spectacular badass.

Biggest problem I had with my AW was the fatigue. Particularly since an active Combat Magic hits you with 50% on top of any other sustainables and armor you have. It's frighteningly easy to get the AW's fatigue over 85%. That severely limits how many spells you can cast and the best ones are constant drains as well... :/

I think future AW builds will be casters just using Shimmering shield.

I actually tend to go with the higher end light armor for my AW lately just for the fatigue issue. Battledress of the Provocateur from Leliana's song, the underworld mod armor, etc.- usually something with a strength requirement in the low 20s.

I also love the weapon drawn casting mod. that's the only thing that really makes combining magic and a weapon worthwhile. It feels like you need to pick one or the other exclusively otherwise since it takes too long in a fight to be constantly sheathing and unsheathing a sword.

I had the mod that opened the weapon talent trees for a while but it didn't work with the respec mods or even the respec books in awakening, so I got rid of it.  I keep checking on occasion to see if they've been made compatible.

Oh yeah, I have the casting mod. Had it well before I even made an AW. :P

Do/did the same thing with new talent tree mods. They don't play nice with the respec mod. Shame. If it wasn't due to a severe lack of good looking light armors, I'd've probably gone that way as well. Rather like how the Duster Leather looks, but nothing uses that model. :/

*makes note to browse dragonagenexus for light armors*

Personally I have my Elf AW wear the Tevinter Enchanter's Robe. Makes him look like a Warrior and a Mage at the same time.

I never tried Blood Mage spec,  but I found a AW/Battlemage spec in Awakening to be completely awesome.
Since battlemage has the upkeep spell that gives AOE spirit damage and drains the damage to grant you health, and considering how you can get an item (amulet, if I'm not mistaken) that raises 100% your spirit damage, that is suffice to make you completely unbeatable, as long as you have a full AW spec and plenty of mana potions to maintain your upkeep spells working. Not to mention other spells that can add up to your combo, such as the death hex and telekinetic weapons, and arcane shield with the "Fade Shield" boost...

I can't help it, I'm a mage junkie :P

Oh, they don't?  You mean if you try to respec, they "sit out" the respec?  I've had that happen with other magic mods like Haze.  All my mage's Haze spells also disappeared in Awakening.

I had a mage who also wore the Grey Warden garments from tmp7704.  It's Duncan's armor, basically, but it looks to me like what a battlemage might wear.

But like I said upthread, Evon the Great mail eliminates any concern about fatigue.  There are probably other medium and heavy armors that have a similar stamina bonus.  Also items like the Nug Crusher for a 2-hander.  If you're using your AW as a tank, the heavier armor helps to pull threat.

tmp is all kinds of awesomeness.  ^_^  Here's a link, BTW.  I should have begged him to make a version that had magic stats... hmm....

Any chance two people begging would make it work? Posted Image
