Good day all,
I recently have upgraded to Eyeyfinity, for those that are not familar it is ATIs newest graphic feature. It supports the use of up to 3 monitors per video card, with up to four cards being used as one screen, thats right it is not a desktop extended or extra screen, it is treated as one screen.
In my case I bought 3 Samsung E2320X 1920x1080 screens, set up as 3x1 landscape mode, for a total resolution of 5760x1080. I have a AMD 1090T CPU with ATI 5870 GPU along with Win 7 x64 and 8GB DDR2 ram.
First NWN2 actually scales beautifuly in game this resolution, even the in game cut scene scale well. The UI does nto stretch and scales very well, with a few minor exceptions, some of the UI is no tmovable, so it ends up at the far end of the monitors in your periphial vision. A slight annoyance but for an old engine like this to even support the extreme wide screen res? money.
The gam eis awesome, especially when y ou zoom in behind the play, true wide field of vision, and zoomed out you can swing the camera ofr a unreal look at the game, the size of the battle field off screen no longer an issue, just swing around and you can see almost anything you could ask for.
Eyefinity is so easy to setup its insane, just connect them up, (make sure to initially set the monitors to be just on and mirriors of the desktop this solves a smal issue in the end, setting whch is the middle screen hehe). then go into the Cat and set up as a group, boom done thats it, from 1920x1080 x 3 stand aloen monitors to 5760x1080 one monitor in three parts.
Lastly the bezel issue was my biggest concern and I htough the statement by many " you do nto notic them after a while" as crap....well its not, after just a few short hours of NWN2, DA or Vanguard SoH? Bezels? what bezels? I sear they just disappear.
To the Devs, in any new game please make sure y ou support eyefinity directly, it WILL be a major deciding factor now for my gaming choices. No eyefinity support, no buy for me. I am hooked and converted.
To all interested, it can be done on the cheap, if you have a HD5000 card, you need ot buy a Display Port to DVI adapter, sapphire and powercolor sell them, but make sure it is EYEFINITY CERTIFIED, this is very very important. Then watch the monitor sales and buy three identicale (this i recomend, as color is always different monitor to monitor).
My cost:
DP > DVI adapter $35 +tax and shipping $46.00
3 Samsung E2320X 169 + tax = $617.00
Total cost lezz then $700.
You can buy 3 20' E series for even less in order of 129.
Watch the sales and you could even save more.
Trust me, once youhave it, you cant play games that dont support it.
ATI's Eyefinity and NWN2
