This probably sounds like a stupid question to many of you who already know what it is and what it can do, but I have done what research I could. The best I could come up with was this: " a dialogue compiler, string patcher, script and text file
extender for Infinity Engine games", but this doesn't tell me what I want to know: If a mod says it's a "WeiDu" mod, is there anything special I need to do to install it? By this, I mean do I have to install whatever WeiDu is, THEN install the mod? Or can I just install the mod like it's any other?
WeiDu, whatever it is, also seems to have some connection to BGT. I frequently see the words "BGT" and "WeiDu" together. Are they the same thing? I'm pretty lost.
What is WeiDU?

BGT=Baldur's Gate Trilogy. Allows you to play the entire trilogy as one, seamless game from Candlekeep to the battle with Melissan, meaning the game does not end after killing Sarevok. Instead, you can have Duke what's-his-name teleport you to Amn whenever you feel like it (after killing Sarevok, that is). Plus some of the recruitable npc's in Baldur's Gate 1 get to keep their proficiencies/stats in Baldúr's Gate 2 (Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, Edwin and Viconia). Meaning that if you keep Imoen as a thief in BG1, she'll still be a pure thief in BG2, instead of a dualclass thief/mage. Or if you give Jaheira two pips in scimitars in BG1, she'll still have those pips in BG2, instead of the proficiencies Bioware gave her.
Weidu is a tool developed by Wes Weimer (who unfortunately left the modding scene years ago) and currently kept up to date at Gibberlings 3. Basically, it allows for easy installing/uninstalling of mods. Nearly every mod comes in Weidu-format these days.
There's no connection between Weidu and BGT.

What you should know about WeiDU:
1: WeiDU mods are easier to remove than other mods.
2: WeiDU mods have more capacity at working together. This does not mean that 2 Nalia romances will cooperate with each other however.
3: You can easily control which mod to install first, second, or last. The WeiDU interface will make it easy to install say component 1 and 2 from Mod A, then Mod B and then component 3 from Mod A (because this component needs to be installed after Mod
.
4: If you have the choice between a non-WeiDU version and a WeiDU version of a mod, take the WeiDU version.
5: Non-WeiDU mods should be installed before WeiDU mods.
