um...
so now i see posts around about making mods for awakenings. and a big post on how not to blow up awakenings with your origins mod and vice versa, which leads me to THIS dumb question:
is awakingings now available in the toolset or something? cuz... i didn't hear anything about that becoming available. nor see anything about it on the wiki.
i'm interested in making a little expansion to awakenings... but i'd need to use an area/lvl from it. and probably some props/models and a character.

No, Awakening is not available in the toolset. In order to mod Awakening you need to do many go-arounds.
I'm unsure if a full area could be "extracted" to use, so to say.
What we can do so far is very limited.

I don't know if you can use a character, but I used an area from Awakening in my mod. You can't alter the area in any way (because it's not a level), but you can use the area layout and the props. But beware, users must have those resources available to them either from a patch you create or Awakening in the OC mod.

Is there a technical/legal reason why Awakening resources aren't available, or it's just that no one from the devs haven't thought to release them yet?

According to sources (namely Fernado Melo in an interview on one of the Dragon Age Podcasts) they haven't had the time to devote to releasing an updated toolset with the Awakening and other resources yet.

try copyiing the whole env folder (from the EP1 awakening expansion) to override, load the toolset and make a new area. You should see all the areas from awakening listed. You should be able to just click on one and the area should load up. HOWEVER, I cant say if this will mess anythign up or not(because I havnt messed with it or the toolset long enough to know how everythign works just yet), so it would be advisable to backup your files before trying this (if you havn't already). I am htinking it should work just fine however.
