Since I may not upgrade my computer, I'm debating on buying an X-Box 360.

Few questions I have are, can this game be played on a regular TV? It's 25 or 27"

If not, can I hook it up to my computer monitor. It's a 17" LCD. Then, the next question would be sound. It's high definition audio (RealTek).

Thank you for the help.

You should be ok with the 27" TV - that's similar to mine. The only issue I've heard of is that ME2 is apparently designed with HD TVs in mind - the smallest text is very small on my (non-HD) telly. ME1 is fine.

Thank you!

I'm just wondering how the graphics will turn out. And, what should I set the resolution at?

Depends.

If your TV supports 720p natively, select 720p. If it supports 1080p, select that.
ME2 is one of the games that supports 1080p and not just 1080i. I'm not sure if it is just upscaling from 720p, though.

Hope this helps a little.

We're talking about a non-HD TV?

Well. You can't select a resolution, then. Just make sure you're using a SCART cable and not the regular composite cable that comes with the 360.

Thank you for that bit of information. Didn't know I had to get a different cable.

I recommend you get a TV that has HDMI for 1080i or if you have to at least one with the RCA YPbPr Cable (the red, blue, green one) for TV wise.

And get the latest 360 with the 240 GB HD or larger if you can afford. 360 cables are available almost any where. I bought mine at Radio Shack.

Thank you for the advice.

There is no HDTV in my future. There's nothing wrong with the TV I have now.

I'm just going to get the cheapest (new) one I can find. I think it's a 4GB hard drive. Wal-Mart has the best deal. Getting Mass Effect 2 is a given. I may also pop for Dragon Age.

Well Black Friday is around the corner maybe you'll get lucky. Good Luck either way.

But still, get at least 60GB HD so you can play off of the HD, no CD buzz and most games run smoother.

Also, Dragon Age Ultimate Edition was fun, great content, I'd recommend it, but I really like ME2, so I'd make ME2 a higher priority, personally.

The whole reason for the X-Box is, playing Mass Effect 2. Finally, a game I actually enjoy playing. And, I will look into a bigger hard drive. I do enjoy smoother game playing. Like you said, Black Friday is right around the corner.

I hate to bring up my old post, but I have another question or two. I now have a flat panel TV.

I've been looking at the 360 Slim. As far as I can tell, the HD only comes in two sizes. 4GB or 240GB. Now, if I opt for the 4GB, do I have to sacrifice all the DLC? I've been reading and the game seems to run smoother if you install it on the hard drive. Since there's no room, I'd have to run it from the disc(s) .If I can squeeze in some DLC, where exactly would it go? And would the disc/game even recognize it?.

After I get the system and game, do I actually have to be online to register it and play? I'm still trying to figure out how to connect since my TV is on one end of the room and my DSL connection is on the other end.

Thank you for the help!

Do not bother with the 4GB version if you want to start installing games and getting DLC and demos the harddisk already paid for itself. And the system and game itself need not be registered online, but you will be getting DLC from the Xbox Live Marketplace so if you want DLC you must connect the console to the internet.

Thank you, Jedi!

I've been doing a lot of reading before I asked the questions. With the game installed, I know the relay animation runs smoother opposed to running from the disk.

I can play the game without any DLC. It's not that big of a deal. Would be nice though. Later on dwn the road, I'll try and pop for the 240GB hard drive. But, you did answer the biggest question I had about having to be online.

If you get the 4 gig version, you won't even be able to install a single game to the hard drive as well, which to me, is the best feature.

Dresden.....There was a TV show called, The Dresden Files...I think that's what it was called. Harry Dresden. Worked with magic....Loved the show. Was on the Sci-Fi Channel.....

From your post, I take it you don't play with any DLC either.....

A couple things.

1) The new XBox has a built-in wireless card. So if your modem is on the other side of your house, the best way to connect it to the internet is by hooking a wireless router to your DSL modem and connecting wirelessly to that.

2) The new XBoxes don't come with any HD cables (No HDMI or Component cables). If you use the packaged composite cables on an HDTV, the picture is going to look awful. An HDMI cable is your best bet, but they're usually expensive in stores. I suggest going on amazon or monoprice and getting one on the cheap.

3) With a 4 GB hard drive you could probably fit most (but probably not all) of the story DLC on it. Furthermore, a 250 GB hard drive is currently ~$100 on amazon, so you can always pay the difference for the bigger hard drive later. However, in order to transfer your saves to a new hard drive you either need to use a USB stick or a data transfer cable. Using a USB stick for transfer isn't the most intuitive thing (you need to delete all the data on it and format it specifically for use in the XBox). However, there are detailed instructions here.

One final thing about using a USB stick to transfer ME2 save files. Apparently if you just copy the save files from Hard drive #1 to USB to Hard drive #2, it won't work. You need to TRANSFER the files, which is slightly different from Copy. So make sure that you do that when the time comes.

Thank you for the info, Janus!

1. I never once thought of the wireless router. I was contemplating buying a longer ethernet cable.

2. I sort of remember reading about the HDMI cable. I'm glad you brought it up.

3. The larger hard drive is something to think about later on down the road. But, I do remember seeing a USB Stick made specifically for the X-Box. Transfer stuff from one box to a friends box. Basically, taking all your info with you. Gamer tag and stuff like that. It came in 4 and 8 GB in size.

As for the DLC, I was thinking about just getting Zaeed, Kasumi and Shadow Broker. Plus, the Dr. Pepper stuff. I just thought of something. I don't know if I'm being daft or not. If I got the 8GB USB stick, could I download and run the DLC from that? If it's possible, that would cut out the need for the other hard drive.

Heh, well that will work and probably be cheaper than a router depending on how far away your modem is. But you risk tripping over it all the damn time. And if you want your computer and XBox connected to the internet at the same time, you'd need a router anyway. (Unless your modem is a modem/router combo and has multiple RJ45 sockets).

Actually you can. :D

You can make the USB drive behave just like an additional hard drive. Just select the flash drive as the destination when you're downloading the DLC. You also need to make sure that your USB flash drive is in the XBox ALWAYS. Let's say you save your save files on the XBox Hard Drive, but all your DLC is on the USB flash drive. If you remove the flash drive, ME2 won't be able to load your save files because it can't detect the DLC. (Actually, I'm not sure the above scenario can happen. I think the save file and DLC might need to be on the same storage device.)

Right now they come in 8GB and 16GB and amazon has them for $24.50 and $32.33 respectively. But note that if you have an old flash drive lying around the house you can always format it in your XBox and use that rather than have to buy one specifically made for the XBox.

Note that the following DLC comes free with the Cerberus Network, so at the very least you can get this:
  • Normandy Crash Site
  • Zaeed: The Price of Revenge
  • Cerberus Weapon and Armor
  • Cerberus Arc Projector
  • Firewalker Pack
However, I don't think the codes for the Dr. Pepper items work anymore. So unless you've used the codes in the past to get them attached to your account, I don't think you can get them anymore. (If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.)

You've been very informative, Janus!

Actually, I have the PC version of the game. My video card died just after the Shadow Broker DLC.. The fault being mine. Crappy video card and crappy PSU. So, I'm taking the console route now that I have a flat panel TV. I'll just use this computer for internet use.

I do have a flash drive hanging around. I think it's 4GB. Technically, I just want Zaeed, Kasumi Normandy and the little stuff. All of that "should" fit on the hard drive. When I click on my entitlements the X-Box versions of the Dr. Pepper stuff show up. Including, the Terminus Armour. I might drop the Normandy and get Shadow Broker.

The cord, I'll just use once. Get online, get the stuff and plug it back in the computer.

EDIT: If you can only map three powers, The Adept and Engineer might be tough. Wouldn't it be only two? The third one would be for Medi-Gel........

Another EDIT: I was over at the market place and noticed the size of the DLC files. I'm trying to figure out if those are the size of the files after you install them? Or, do they have the .exe extension like the PC?

You can map the bumper buttons and Y to any power in your power wheel. (So that is 3 total)
Other than that you need to hold down the Right Bumper to bring up the power wheel.
I personally don't have Unity mapped as I don't want to use it by accident.

There is no install or extracting of DLC after you download it from XBL. What you download is what you get.

I wouldn't use a mapping for Unity. You can always pause the game if needed. And Unity isn't something that should be used regularly anyway.

And yes having only 3 mappings makes it slightly annoying to play caster classes. It also means you have to pause and bring up the power wheel to use squadmate powers.

As an example, as an Adept I used Y for Singularity, RB for Pull and LB for Warp. I had to pause to use Stasis, but it wasn't a big deal.
