When I enter the fade to save Conner during the quest "The Arl of Redcliffe", I get stuck in the Fade.  After defeating the second Conner in the third area, when I activate the Portal that appears nothing happens.  If I activate it repeatedly my character will occasionally speak to indicate he is attempting to activate the portal, but I do not get advanced to the next area.

My mage character is the one in the fade, and I got the Circle of Magi to come and do the ritual for me to enter the fade.  I had previously entered the fade and successfully gotten to the demon before realizing my intimidate was not high enough to get a reward and make her leave permanently.  So, I reloaded a save game to where I was standing in Castle Redcliffe about to talk to Irving and enter the fade, and instead I left and went to do some side quests.  After levelling up, I returned to the castle and entered the fade, only to find the bug I described above.  I have tried reloading while next to the portal, reloading to before I entered the fade and reentering it, and restarting the computer, all to no avail.  The only save I have before I entered the fade the first time and then did the side quests is just before I traveled to Redcliffe for the very first time, so I would prefer not to have to redo everything from that point without being positive I will not just run into this bug again.

I have not yet tried reinstalling the game, since I own the steam version and that would take a while.  I own the collector's edition, Awakening and all the DLC (purchased individually, not the ultimate edition).  If you think reinstalling the game would help, please advise as to whether I should delete anything in the dragon age folder in My Documents before reinstalling.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I have already beaten Lelianna's Song and the Darkspawn Chronicles on this PC, and I have progressed much further in the game with different characters using the same profile on a different computer.

I don't suppose this mystery was ever solved was it? I'm having the same issue on my PC version. The strange thing is, I had already played past this point on a previous character within the same downloaded game. I tried reloading to a previous save, used different characters, restarted my computer, etc. All points end at that portal. I really hope this doesn't require a reinstall. My version is from Steam and took about 16 hours to download, not to mention used a little over 20G of my monthly bandwidth allotment from my internet service.
