However! If it makes more sense storywise (IE, if MotB is a very direct continuation of the first story) I will do the OC first. Without any spoilers, which makes better sense from the story perspective?
Confession: I have never played MotB

I've played MotB with new characters, and the mentioned cameos were still there, the game assumes that you've played the OC with that character, even if it's newly created.
The only real difference is the starting level. A new character starts at 18, but you'll be able to reach 30 anyway, so no big difference.

Well here's another question. Am I going to be a sad panda gear-wise if I start a fresh toon? Or should I be able to do okay?

You'll quickly get gear that will make you forget about OC gear.
Because of the incorrect implementation of bracers of armor I hung onto those and my armor for all of the game. There were also a couple of rings that I didn't replace until near the end of motb. Boots too. And my custom umber hulk shield.
But I don't think I'd go thru the OC just to play motb, the OC is quite a long experience.

I think I've changed my mind. I'll start the OC again, and if interest wanes or it looks like I will start running out of time, I'll just fire up MotB.

So if I had doubts if I have time for both, I'd just play MotB.
Gear is no problem in MotB. In fact it's grossly overpowered.

So what? I haven't played any of the OCs and that holds true for NWN and NWN2.
LOL WAY TO GO! I foolishly played nwn to completion as I was new and excited, and reluctant to play online (back in 2004). I attempted to play nwn2 but got as far as neverwinter and got bored. I do not like party play (sorry, i HATE having to control more than 1 character).
To play the whole OC for cameo scenes, are you nuts? I dont know why people think that Role playing is clicking on pre-arranged conversation items, cuz it isnt! RP is actually using your noodle and fitting in with REAL players! You cannot role play by yourself! By yourself, you are simply reading a story that you have little to no input in, but they make you believe that you do (the endings are predetermined!).

I am currently working on a similar override for MotB and hoping to release that before the end of the year.

Seriously, enough with the "real RP is " bs. It's different for everyone, and includes all sorts. I'm so damn tired of this kind of argument...I had enough with the "PvP is/is not RP" endless squabbling in MMOs.

May I just say... Bravo!

Neeshka's survivability has gone way up for me since she discovered bows/crossbows, scrolls/wands, and nymph cloaks.

Not to worry. The xp penalty loss for dying by design is never enough to cause de-leveling. The death system doesn't work perfectly for companions anyway since they must be alive for so many cutscenes (especially mouthy Neeshka

Ugh.
Got a good build for her then? She usually gets in one good sneak attack (I do use the TonyK AI mod) then dissolves. Half the time I don't even bother to give her any potions because she still dies and wastes potions too. She's just my trap/lock monkey. xD;; I could micro her more, but you know, if I wanted to play a rogue the whole time I would...well...have made a rogue.

Also the SoZ death system and penalty are only used if you are playing in normal mode or harder.

Hehe, yeah, I play in normal. I will still give it some thought...I definitely like the mod in general.

You can simply buff her with your caster companions. Stoneskin, Mage Armor, etc.
If you want to make her stronger, there are some multiclassing mods on the Vault (Kaldor's included, IIRC). Rogues are not very powerful in the OC.
If you keep her as a Rogue, you can give her a bow and Rapid Shot, and flank enemies to get sneak attacks. Or give her two weapons and Feint. The latter would help other party members too. Undead will be a problem, so try to give her elemental weapons.

You have answered your own question. As for buffing her up - of course you can do that, but why bother? The idea is to make her self-sufficient.
And you have also answered Sarielle's question about the build. Nothing more is needed to make the horned one viable. The two-weapon approach - or ANY melee version for that matter - will get her killed a lot unless you control her directly.

It's been a while since I played the OC, I don't remember how much Neeshka died when I played.
There's another option: take one Rogue level and Able Learner with your character, deal with locks and traps yourself, and don't bring Neeshka with you.
OR, forget about traps (walk over them, they're not that dangerous most of the time), and bring a mage with Knock (or an item that lets you cast it, forgot the name).

Dunno about that, I only had problems with melee Neeshka on my 1st game, then I stopped skimping on her equipment and she managed fine.

But I have to say, that just having taken a character through the OC gives MotB a lot more "weight". While I don't like actually playing the OC, it gives great motivations for your character and backstory for MotB to work all the better if that makes any sense, hehe.
