male / female char and it's impact on the game

I am close finishing the game with my second playthrough. I am considering to that one last time as an elf female.
Will the game experience be much different as a female char, if we ignore the whole Alistair and the ending part?
What can I expect to be different, overall?
Thanks in advance

Certain conversations with other companions will also be different (Sten will give you a very interesting conversation early on). Leliana and Zevran's dialogs will also be slightly different in certain parts (and obviously during the romances).
There are a few moments where you will be able to flirt with NPCs, but on the whole it won't make a huge difference. The differences are sublte, and I for one really appreciate them.

What dissapointed me the most were the vastigial answer variations, which resulted in the same answers compared to the other ones. The "taunts" in the Proving Grounds felt also pointless.
And I felt the same with relationships. Besides few neat conversations, and a clip of a pornographic scene, it didn't seem that the relationship had much impact on my game. When the person I was in relationship said everything that there was to be said, there was nothing to do further, but it is ofcourse understandable as there are limited amount of voice recordings for each character.
I hope that Alistair's romance will be worth it.

Alistair made me cry my first playthrough (unspoiled). my heart literally broke. it was fantastic. The whole ending was a complete whirlwind of emotion (and cemented me forever as a Zevran Fangirl).

Ejoslin, your favorite romance is with Zevran, right?
EDIT: ah, yes it seems so, given what you said

Not that the other companions aren't important to me, just in different ways.

Aside from what Zjarcal said, the city elf intro is the only other thing that really springs to mind. Events there take a fairly different turn based on your gender.
I think this is the case were the gender makes the most difference. Not only does the quest itself change significantly, the emotional impact is much stronger when playing a female.

I think Leliana has the shortest romance. The others span the entire game.
Well it's not so much that it's shorter, it's that unlike all the other ones it's not tied to plot events. Were it not for Taliesin's encounter being the requirement for Zevran to reach "love" status, his romance could also end quite early.

Just adding that the DN female also has a big change based on gender as well since Gorim can be romanced in the origins. I noticed that male PCs were able to ask for kisses as compensation for their services -- don't recall females being able to do that.bleetman wrote...

A few interesting tidbits, but nothing major:
- The female PC has multiple ways of telling Gheyna how she made a man out of Cammen so that's always fun to try out.
- The female PC can romance Leliana and if Oghren is in the party if the PC sets up a threesome with Isabella, he will pass out at the thought of all these women getting it on. Up to you if that's worth seeing.
- Mages can flirt with Cullen and have him run away flustered. There's additional dialogue when the warden returns to the tower and sees Cullen again.

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who gets so emotional by this sort of thing. Your words are encouraging. I will give it a chance. Perhaps after taking a shorter break, just to forget a bit of the phrases and such. It feels like I have been grinding this game way too much lately, in a desperate search for changes compared to my first game, which I still... took a bit for granted.

I do like Zevran's romance, and it has to do with that first playthrough. I did no reloading as I wanted to just live with the consequences of my actions. Alistair seriously broke my heart, i sat there staring at my monitor in complete disbelief for about 15 minutes when that happened, before getting up and getting some space. But then I got the best ending for Zevran's romance where they end up engaged, and felt so lifted up. And it may not be fair of me, because i know Alistair can have a happy ending, but wow, the intensity of my emotions at the end of both of the romances.
Both are amazing stories. David Gaider outdid himself on both.
Edit: The night Alistair broke my heart, my poor husband had a very pissy wife! hahahaha!

The only origin I would recommend the female over the male role is the city elf. If you roleplay and it sounds as though you do, the female city elf is much more personal than the male city elf. You may want to select a role that allows you to do a great deal of damage. The city elf can also pick a very cheeky reply to King Cailan at one point. The return to the Alienage is nicely done.

Anyway. First time I played, I haven't constantly saved and loaded to get the "most optimal" result in the conversations. That was the beauty of ignorance. And it had it's charm. I really played my character, like I wanted him to be. I avoided the conflict, both among NPC's and my own companions. And I sticked to those companions who supported my considerate attitude, still without pissing off the "evil" ones.
Also the ending (ultimate sacrifice) happened so suddenly, without me expecting that everything would end so fast. Still it felt like the right choise, and it got me real emotional, seeing the funeral of my ingame avatar. It was really like having a short vision or dream of watching my own funeral. It is hard to describe. I am glad that a game can make you feel like that. And I hope it will get better in the future.
But then I realized that the game didn't play out as I wanted it, when Satovir (my char) died. My romance with Leliana haven't even been triggered, probably due to some bug, and I have spent so much energy, caring for her, and make her feel important. The same with Duncan's Shield, as a gift to Alistair. I had no access to it after the Landsmeet, so when I loaded the game, I had to use a cheatcode to gain the shield, which I could not have gotten otherwise.
My point is: on my second playthrough (with my new evil char) my expectations were higher, plus I felt compelled to make the opposite decisions, compared to my previous char, trying to see the different aspect of the game. I have to admit that being evil in a game, often doesn't feel right for me, but it was a good way to blow some steam off, after seing the injustice with the fate of my first character. Regarding making different choises; It often worked, but many times it was obvious that the game was still pretty linear in it's core, and the ramifications of ones actions were merely superflous/cosmetic, with no real impact on the story. Maybe I am wrong.
Anyway. I still feel like I have been playing it too much lately, and rushing too fast with my second char. A bit of a bad mix of: me going into compulsive thinking mode, and trying to experience it ALL (which is almost impossible). And it is important to stop by sometimes and enjoy the surroundings, rather than always having the next goal in mind.
As for me, playing a female char. It is still something I have to consider. I find it a bit hard, putting myself into a role of a woman. No offence.
edit: wow, you reply fast

You are mentioning the engaging part. Is it illustrated in a form of video and audio, or merely as text, at the end?
Neither. Zevran in his own way proposes, kind of, if you make a certain decision earlier. The only actual weddings mentioned in the epilogue and the post-coronation are royal ones (Alistair/Anora).
Here's a video of the conversation with the proposal, though in it the warden turns it down. It is a huge spoiler of how Zevran romance completes, but if you want to see it, here it is. i made the video for people who said it wasn't really a proposal! It ends badly if you don't accept.
this conversation is for males as well, btw.
