On my first run, I picked Harrowmont, because of the character I was rping, who would naturally go for him. But that was the most painful decision I had to make on that run, cause I personally would choose Bhelen.

Was that Arcturus? :?

Of course not! :D
That was Arthas Cousland, a boring typical nobleman, whose file I deleted some time ago.

Actually I sort of predicted the anvil going horribly wrong with Harrowmont. It's the reason I always destroy it. Giving someone, anyone no matter how pure their intentions something like that to me personally is reckless and bound to one day blow up astronomically in your face.

Eh. I have two canon wardens a male human noble and a female human noble.

One of these days I have to remake Aedan. I started but blech. He's such a goody goody idiot. >_>

So Arcturus wasn't your first warden? Interesting, I always thought he was.

I still have to redo my canon warden someday (preferably before DA2 comes out). I don't know if Bhelen will get the throne or not.

My first playthrough, I picked Bhelen. My character was a Human Noble Rogue. She picked Bhelen because he was the son of the king, as well as prefering to work through underhanded means as opposed to having to fight in the provings. Since she didn't care for dwarven society, I thought I was going to get a nasty ending for the dwarves. Couldn't believe it when it started talking about how nifty everything was. Thought it was bugged/got wrong ending.

Seems not, though, and since I like the dwarves, I prerer putting Bhelen on as often as possible.

He's my third actually.
But he is my canon, aka the one I base on myself mostly (or try anyhow).

And I'll be replaying him for the third time once I get the PC B)

My canon Warden was actually my second. Seems with DA, you really have to go through one playthrough to even get an idea of what kind of character you want to play.

Yea exactly.
I was overwhelmed at first. Especially since this is the first RPG where I took RPing seriously.
I replayed ME after DA:O and my experience was very different.

Indeed.

My first run has terrible. I wasn't RPing to be honest and it was a run full of decisions I didn't like for that character. Unhardened Alistair as solo king, Harrowmont as king in Orzammar, and a whole bunch stuff that I did without really knowing what I was doing. And the worst of all, recruiting and befriending Wynne!! =]

That's why I have to redo that game one day.

I have to re-do my canon, eventually.

it's amazing how different origins/genders show different sides to a character, Wynne being a classic example. My first playthrough, I liked her well enough, since I was playing a human noble. Even her unsolicited relationship advice really didn't bother me. It was my second playthrough, as a mage, that I really got a loathing for her. Opinions of other companions also changed.

It definitely is not a one size fits all type game.

I actually like to see everything there is to a companion before making up my opinion about them. As you said, Wynne doesn't come off so bad if you're a HN but as a mage, she's terrible.

I also like to see how companions react during their crisis moments or how NPCs react when you act differently, as that heavily influences my opinion of them. Just as an example, though I liked him before, I now officially hate Murdoch for being such an ass to my city elf who hadn't announced herself as a grey warden.

Mine responded by taking a nice relaxing stroll to calm down. All the way to Denerim.

I am very tempted to do that to be honest. :innocent:

Believe me, my canon mage rues the day she agreed to help Redcliffe, and Murdoch was the first, but not last, reason to think so.

But that's another thing, different races anmd origins also effect different NPCs in the game, and thus, your opinion of them.

My first run through still stays with me after i don't know how many others. Alistair just broke my heart so completely (yes ME dammit, shut up). Zevran had me crying from happiness. And everything i planned to do just ended up not working out. Including trying to kill myself on the archdemon. GAH! Fantastic!

My first run-through was a Queen Cousland and it was okay but I almost didn't bother replaying the game. Eventually, I decided to try another origin but since I am not overly fond of rags-to-riches I decided to try playing a DN and, well, the rest is history. Posted Image

The reason I really can't get behind the whole 'Harrowmont is the obvious good guy' philosophy so many people are espousing is because in my first game that wasn't quite how it went. I arrived in Orzammar completely unspoiled for once (I did spoil myself about virtually every other part of the game) and quickly became horrified at Dust Town. I inferred from what both Harrowmont AND Bhelen's criers had to say (and if they're agreeing with each other on something there's a good chance it's true) that Bhelen was less in support of the caste system. I felt horrible because Harrowmont seemed like a nice guy and Bhelen seemed like the kind of guy that would kill him - called it - but I felt that the obvious good guy choice would be to side against the mindless perpetuation of the system that encourages murdering babies and makes it perfectly legal to do whatever you want to a casteless because they don't exist.

That part was one of the few times my own expression matched that of my character. Unexpected, to say the least :crying:
