If Hawke and gang can turn enemies into pools of blood or flying body parts, maybe the reverse can happen as well? Can our companions go down in pools of blood? Do enemies have finishing moves on Hawke or whoever is the last the party standing?
Perma-death would be bad. Very bad. As-is, you and your companions are incapacitated, not dead.

Y'know, I am amazed at how gruesome the deaths are in an old game like Baldur's Gate in comparison to what we saw in Origins. I mean, how many exploding ogres have we seen so far? I'm not sure if I'd actually want the players to experience gruesome and terrible deaths though, there's a difference between dark fantasy and gore for the sake of gore.
Well, in the second trailer of DA2 a Ogre was exploded using Fireball or a similar fire spell.

It just seems a bit fake that enemies can die grusomely while we can't. Plus, some DAO finishing moves were not integrated with cut scenes. Once I decapitated Howe and only to have him curse me with his head on.

That's because when you're HP goes to zero, you aren't dead. You're incapacitated. When all your members are down, and the screen fades, you are killed by whatever enemies are around.

Hawke: 'Tis but a scratch!
Varric: A scratch? Your arm's off!
Hawke: No, it isn't!
Hawke: Well, what's that then?
Hawke: I've had worse.

I support companion/PC dismemberment. Just think: You are in a tough fight with a roaving band of Darkspawn wearing tophats when all of a sudden one of the cuts Hawke's arm off. Instead of getting a 'mission critical' screen (oh wait, wrong franchise) you would fight on! With the following exchange taking place:
Hawke: 'Tis but a scratch!
Varric: A scratch? Your arm's off!
Hawke: No, it isn't!
Hawke: Well, what's that then?
Hawke: I've had worse.

Followed by Varric ripping off both of his arms, so that Hawke can't out-do him. Then Varric kills the Darkspawn by dual-wielding his arms.
Yeah. I said exactly what I meant to say.

This has to happen. With the addition of Varric re-attaching his arms after the fight using only trimmings of his chest hair.
