Hello people.

I have a problem in Mass Effect 2 with some textures on characters. In some places (not everywhere, for the moment I remember have seen this problem in Presidium Embassy, Tuchanka throne room and in front of the human reaper in collector's base), the texture on characters (both Shepard, commando members and NPC) seems to be hardly calculated by the computer. It's a bit hard to explain, even in my native language (so imagine in English), but it looks like the bare body shape of characters get through their dressing, armor and hairs, in a kind of  chaotic blinking. For example, look at shepards hair.

That's exactly the problem.  When closing up on character faces, the eyelid get behind the eye, it looks like a GC artifact but it isn't.

I've updated my graphic card driver to the latest, and still the same problem.

My config is :

Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R
Intel E8500
2Go DDR2 Ram
Sapphire Radeon HD5830 1Go
Windows XP 32 Bits Family Edition

Thank you by advance.

Chenoir.

I just saw I have the same problem with the door on the human embassy. It's blinking, like if the bak texture was calculated in front of the front texture. Looks like the 2 textures are in the same level and the graphic engin don't know which one is meant to be seen first.

There are five interacting elements in producing images.  One of those, I believe, can be omitted in this case.  Starting with the graphics device, you have the video driver next, then you have Dx9 (not Dx10 / Dx11, but Dx9), and since there's no active motion, we can forget about PhysX.  Last, there is the game itself.  These days, it's advisable to use something similar to Driver Clean to eliminate all traces of the previous driver when you update.

As noted, the game runs with Dx9, and the two newer Direct3D systems are inadequateky backward compatible, but there is no conflict, just run a Dx9 install and then test again.  If neither changed drivers nor Dx9 corrects the problem, uninstall the game itself, then reinstall.

I've already tried to reinstall the game, still have the same problem. I'm going to reinstall the video driver, to see if it change anything.

Well, desinstalling/reinstalling new graphic driver effectively changed something, the flickering is even worst than before.

Anyway, I looked on different forums, I'm not the only one to have this problem and it seem not linker to video card or anything. Some people talk about Z-fighting and/or depth buffer problems without giving any solutions.

I have it as well in the same locations and I think most people have it. It's called texture clipping. There's no fix that I know of.

It's most notable in the scene with Anderson and Udina. There's another bug where the AI is glitched and your squadmates walk around like idiots and block your view.
