:D
I'll sure give it a try! *goes looking for Darkspawn in the wilderness of her suburbian neighbourhood*

But yeah, I'd like some specs on it. Retail will be $400 when it goes on regular sale in so it's a $60 save if you get it at starting bid but what do we get for the price? I need size, weight, larp value :D (Not that I'd ever larp with something this precious but still..). IS THIS A REAL SWORD OR JUST AN ORNAMENT?

The EpicWeapons site says: "This authentic Grey Warden Sword replica is a
replica of the weapons wielded by the heroic Grey Wardens when they are
faced with darkspawn. This replica is cast with the highest quality
stainless steel with custom etched molds and was created using the
finest grade materials and craftsmanship."
Hmm.. I can't tell.. Hope, yes, tell, no

As someone who collects swords and prop replicas, the price doesn't bother me so much, so long as the quality is absolutely amazing. I hope they'll do more designs in the future, some of the weapons like Vigilance and Maric's Blade had really cool unique looks that would look really cool as display pieces.

Would love to have a Gray Warden sword on my wall

If they shipped outside the US I might be interested, but apparently they don't. Also it says they're made of stainless steel - for a $400 sword? Some mistake, surely...?  Edit: well I seem to have found the answer to that, as mentioned in the next post.

Ornament.  I'm quite surprised considering the price, but apparently it really is made of stainless steel rather than sword steel.  Rather disappointing, really.

Don't ever try waving one of these things about, stainless steel swords are notorious for unpredictably breaking... :o

Lemme guess:

It's a butterknife.

Not even that.  At least you can spar or pose with a butterknife: stainless steel is just too unsafe even when mucking about solo.

I'm still wondering if I've misunderstood the blurb as it's a lot of money for a stainless wall-hanger.  I'm going to kick myself if they turn out to be proper sword-steel and I missed the boat.

Well, it could be that, after having made those pictures, they discovered Photoshop's resize tool. Could explain why the sword looks so big on their site.

*cough*Useless ornament is useless!*cough*

Oh, I was wrong!  They're now publishing the shipping rates to the UK, the cheapest being about $200.  Er, no.

Just buy the mini desktop versions that they made earlier in the year. Their only $15 and are the same quality I bet lol. I have both of the mini ones and their really cool.

The mini ones are very cool, and the postage is peanuts from the Bioware Store.  Definitely recommend them!

Also handy for slaying very small ogres and removied congealed mucus from one's exterior olfactory tracts.

Edit: crap spelling

To bad shipping to the EU from the Bioware Store is quite expensive. You pay first of all pay quite a lot of shipping, but you have to pay also a VAT tax (starts around 20 euro's, 10 euro's are handeling fees) when you get it. Need to find someone to send it to in the US so that they can send it to me (and not report the value so that there will be no extra taxes on it)

I think just to set the record straight, the shipping rates from the Bioware Store are very competitive: I've had quite a lot of stuff shipped from the US and have to say they're pretty good value.

However, these swords aren't shipped from the Bioware Store but from Epic Weapons, whose shipping rates aren't such good value; in fact their checkout page indicates that they may be marking up the already quite expensive UPS rates, which I'd estimate are probably less than half the price indicated.

Careful with getting stuff shipped if you understate the value as it could have implications if the goods are lost or damaged, the obvious implication being that you won't get a full refund (or anything at all).  Taxes are one of those unfortunate facts of life, although depending where you live the collection of handling fees by the courier may not be enforceable: in the UK I've so far succeeded in my demands that they be refunded, though sometimes it takes a fair bit more effort than I'd prefer.

It's a life size sword, the website states:
"This authentic 57" replica Grey Wardens Sword is the weapon wielded by the heroic Grey Wardens when they are faced with darkspawn. The replica is cast with the highest quality Japanese stainless steel with custom etched molds and was created using the finest grade materials and craftsmanship."  Weighing at 17 lbs.

Sure I'll buy a GW sword for $400, that is if it was made of high-carbon steel and battle ready / fully functional.  What's the point of buying an awesome GW sword if you can't even use it to cut through bamboo poles and rolled rice mats.

I'm really torn between waiting for a proper craftsman to 'replicate' the replica in proper materials and getting this one before they're gone. It would look pretty on my wall but.. it just wouldn't be the same knowing that when Darkspawn rush my front door, I'd have to rely on my japanese chopping knives rather than my Warden sword. Oh what is a fangirl to do..
