Is it possible to get a smooth transition between two DOF effects? To have the camera "re-focus" smoothly to something further away? I can only get it to "jump" uncomfortably to the next effect.

You should be able to rack focus if you use the curve editor on your da_dof action in the cutscene. Change your distance/radius on a bezier, and it -should- smoothly shift focus from one to another.
