Anyone else think the "blood" effects are way over exaggerated?

I would like to turn off the "blood" effects.  Is there a way?

I find it unrealistic that a simple dagger stab would cause 172 gallons of blood to splatter over everyone in a 300,000 foot radius.  Okay, I'm exaggerating.  That's my point exactly.  The blood effects are over exaggerated.  It's unrealistic.  A slider to reduce the effects to 1% would be great.  Turning it off completely would be great too.

BioWare needs to fire the pre-teen developer in charge of the blood effects, or at least take his red crayons away.

Unrealistic? Dragon Age? Perish the thought! :P

Watch classical Japanese Samurai or Kurosawa movies. They invented that effect. Everybody is a blood fountain. Here's an example from Kurosawa's "Ran". (Warning! Dragon Age style blood fountain, but with real people!) (And Tarantino paid a hommage to them in Kill Bill 1.)

See also "High Pressure Blood" on tvtropes.org.

As well as "Evil Dead", "Army of Darkness", "Sin City", "Kill Bill 1", "From Dusk till Dawn", etc etc.

And, of course, "300". "300" indeed.

You can turn off the spatter that lingers on your party after a fight by unchecking the "Enable persistent gore" check box, found in Options -> Game. This won't limit the gore during fights, however, so I'm not sure it's what you're looking for.

Thanks, yeah, I already turned that off. I was hoping there might be a patch or something to turn off, or at least turn down the blood splatter effect during combat. Wishful thanking probably...

There is a mod over on the Nexus www.dragonagenexus.com/index.php sorry I don't have the direct link to it anymore.  It allows you to choose how much gore you want.  I think it is something like three different levels.  Then you put whichever you want in your override folder and tada!  It is way better than the games original blood spatter.Posted Image

A very disproportionate aspect of the game, I'm afraid. There's no end to blood and gore, but on the other hand, you have to have sex in your underwear... -.-

What Saerwen said. Check out the Nexus, you're not the only one irritated by the large quantities of blood ;)

Okay, I just spent the last hour searching thru the nexus site, couldn't find it. Search for "blood" returned 114 entries, wasn't any of them. Also manually browsed thru all of the file category sections, looked at almost everything, didn't see it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The high amount of blood was funny at first, especially when during cut scenes, people continue talking while covered in blood and don't bother to wipe it off. At one time I considered turning blood off in options but never got around to it, and now I'm just used to all of the blood.

Thanks Saerwen for that mod, I installed the file, continue to quest, but haven't encountered any combat yet to check it out.

I'll report back here after some combat, in case anyone is interested, to let people know how well the mod works. I installed the 'mild' version fyi.

I think the splatter is a bit excessive. And it's really quite funny when you inadvertently click on your companions and they launch into some romantic speech (like giving you the rose) with both of you drenched in blood.

The mod must be working, I don't even notice blood on my characters anymore. Much better for me.

The amount of blood is actually pretty realistic, the fact that it sprays everywhere with the force of Mt. Saint Helens, or that you can keep fighting after 1 or 2 of these wounds, not so much.

LOL, yeah really! And they dont even really seem to show any of the actual sex either.... it's just some flashes of brief moments of intimacy, then fade to black - and even this only lasts a few seconds. It's amazing how prudish people are about these kinds of things. Yeah.. have fun slicing some guys head off with a Katana, but heaven forbid there's some naked people in a video game... unbelievable.

I love the blood. Nothing is lamer than killing something with a sword and seeing them fall to the ground. It brings a layer of realism appropriate for a 'dark heroic fantasy' environment.

It's not the amount of blood that I find humorous, it's the fact that the blood stays around for a while.

Your party may slay a group of bandits when you first enter a town, but after you've done some shopping and did a couple fetch quests for some of the villagers, the group members are still covered head to toe with the blood of the bandits who were slain earlier. It makes one wonder why they don't just take a second to wash the blood off in the nearby stream. Also, if a group of people walk into a tavern dripping with blood, shouldn't the people in the tavern give pause at least before interacting with the "bloody people"? I always find it funny having conversations with people while my character is covered with blood and no one seems to notice. Apparently, finishing the conversation is far more important than washing the blood off of their faces, and continuing the conversation afterwards. Speaking with Leliana in the tavern in Lothering while everyone is covered in blood is one prime example.

I don't mind the bloodbath during combat, but I think it should wear off after 5 minutes or so, or at least when dialogue is initiated. They can remove their head gear, but not wipe off the blood?

This is true. I'm not anti-violence in games or anything, just commenting on the wierd double-standard people seem to have about violence in games and sex in games; that is to say violence is OK but nudity is not, or something like that. But yeah, I wasn't bashing video game violence :D

i dont like the amount of blood . its the one thing that lets this game down imho . the game would be 5/5 without the excessive blood , in all honestly 4/5 cause of it . just my feelings on the matter . the game should have had a horror rateing imo .but im a stable 40 year old so =)

I love the blood. The more the better. I played The Witcher's north american version where they forgot to add the "blood". Not good.

What bugs me about it isn't really the quantity, but the way that it spatters so evenly across your whole character, even the side of them that wasn't facing the spray of blood. That makes it feel less like gore to me and more like some kind of speckled pox. And the effect looks worse and worse the further back the camera is.

There are mods that change the blood pattern to more realistic (which means right out of an Eli Roth movie...)

Does that include your PC's as well? :D

The decapitations of darkspawn are pretty gruesome to watch but at the same time so satisfying if your PC is the one to make the final slice..........

What mod does this? I just looked at all the mods in Nexus and didn't see one with realistic blood. Thanks.
