No level-scaling, and less copy paste dungeons would be a good start..

Here's to hoping they got off their backsides and actually learnt how to use the damned engine.

It will be a new engine.

''According to Gaming Business Review, Emergent Game Technologies, the company that developed the Gamebryo engine used in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, is in deep financial trouble and has been forced to liquidate its assets.''

How does this indicate that Bethesda won't be using the engine? Is there some sort of contract that prevents Bethesda from using their product once they've gone out of business?

I suspect that, as Gamebryo would have to be used under license, if the engine developer isn't around anymore there's no one to license from (And, from a dev point of view, that's bad because there'd be no support for the engine).

Well, if Bethesda are switching engine, then I hope they make less of a mess of it. Gamebryo should not run that badly.

I wonder if Bethesda will use ID tech 5? Considering its reserved for games published by ZeniMax and Bethesda Softworks. I wonder if Bethesda will develope a game with it.

Tech 5 + Elder Scrolls= WIN

Kind of doubt it, but that would be awesome.

I would LOVE this, but I think the acquisition came too late.  I bet ES5 was a chunk done before iD came into the fold.

A fair point, but that also means they could just hire the engineers!

That would be great. After playing Infinity Engine games for the past 3 months, and then moving onto Neverwinter Nights 2, I immediately missed the beautiful hand crafted environments. Of course, modern games look good in their own way at times...but it's tough to beat artistry, imo.

I thought Bethesda said at QuakeCon they won't be using ID Tech 5. A new open world engine was mentioned. Anyways, I hope Bethesda learns from New Vegas/Obisidian on how to make a sandbox RPG really fun and immersive.

Same here, I would love it and I hope it is elven-centered.  But I picked up Oblivion a while ago and tried to replay again, found myself in an ordinary cave and just couldn't do it.  Overload!

I've never played Morrowind, and tried to do so, but it's hard to go back since I came to games with the modern ones.

You know you look at Morrowind now and you'd think it'd be difficult to play, but once you get into it you totally forget about the graphics and lack of VA etc. Its well worth the chance, better than Oblivion IMO

I hated how Oblivion cut most of the guilds you could join and the sense of freedom/exploration is much greater in Morrowind.

Todd Howard said in his last interview that they've already spent 2 years to revamp their engine which is still based on Gamebryo. However, he also said that they modified and updated the engine to such an extent that their next game will look like a next generation title.

Hopefully it'll be more like an RPG like Fallout, with choices and consequences

It was amazing, a pain in the arse sometimes getting around the different guilds etc without fast travel but the variety and amount... pure awesome. And the expansions {drools} though Solstheim (sp?) wasnt up to scratch

If it is going to be a follow up to the Infernal City novel, then I call a Massively Epic Fail. It probably is going to be, though... Infernal City takes place forty years after Oblivion already.

A game set right after Oblivion, about trying to keep the Empire together, would be interesting.

Hot damn! I've been waiting for a long time to hear of this. There isn't a single IP out there that gets me more hyped than a sequel to Oblivion.

Now its time to build my shrine and pray it's not an MMO or multiplayer hackfest.

I'll :crying: if that happens.  Rumors have popped up over the past few years about a ES MMO but I certainly hope it's BS.

Rumor!  Ruuumor!  Get'cha hot, sloppy, sexy-sexy rumor!

Supposedly a direct sequel to Oblivion.

Supposedly going to use a hopped up version of the Fallout 3 engine.

Supposedly going to feature an all female cast of hot chicks.  (I made this up.)

Personally, I'm psyched.  I love BioWare games for tight stories and the focused combat.... and I love Bethesda games for the wide open story and wanderlust gameplay.  Damn shame they don't do romances, but I can forgive them.  I can't freaking wait!

I wonder if they planned this to leak before the VGAs?   :P

I really really hope  that this rumour is true.

Not too sure what to think though if it does turn out to be a direct sequel to Oblivion. I would rather it be set in a very different place and with a very different story just to keep things fresh.

Still, I loved Morrowind and Oblivion, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that this info is genuine.

Oh and I also hope that it isn't an MMO. But if it was, surely Zenimax online would be producing it?

Zenimax Online Studios is developing a likely TES MMO.

Bethesda Game Studios is developing TES V and Fallout IV.

It has already been said several times that Bethesda Game Studios do not develop MMOs for any franchise. If an Elder Scrolls based MMO is ever made it will be developed only by Zenimax Online.

I doubt it will be related to the Infernal City since that has its own cast of characters- the main TES titles centre around the so called 'Heroes'- that is people custom made by you who determine their own fate in the world (whereas everyone else's fate is determined by what is written in the in-game 'Elder Scrolls').
