Oh, and how the TES4 hero totally saved another world from a bunch of machine men and became a god or something.
Fixed.

So, that was epic, but what the hell was going on? I didn't play TES 1 or 2.
TES 1 (Arena):
Emperor: Help, I'm trapped!
Jagar: Ha ha! No staff, no resuce!
PC: You *dies, restart game* mean... *dies, restart game* *dies, restart game* THIS *dies, restart game* staff?
Jagar: Oh bugger! *dies*
TES 2 (Daggerfall):
Emperor: Hey you, kid, go kill this ghost.
PC: Wut? How?
Emperor: Are you still here?
PC: Ok, so I got this Super Golem named Liberty Prime or something. Who wants it?
Everyone: ME!
PC: Ok. *chooses one, game ends*
TES 3:
Saint Jiub: Hey kid, wake up.
PC: Wut?
Azura: Hey, sup. You're a reincarnated hero.
PC: Cool. *stabs another god in the heart with a hammer, wins*
TES 4:
Emperor: Hey kd, I'm Captain Picard.
PC: Wut?
Assassin: *stabs Picard*
Emperor: Oh, ****, I'm dead. Go find my son, Martin.
PC: Ok.
Martin: Sup.
Demons: Everyone die!
Martin: I'm a dragon!
PC: Cool.
Martin: I'm a god!
PC: Cool. *wins*
PC: Oh hey, I'm a god too.
Martin: Cool.
Eurogamer: Is it fair to say then that it's based on existing technology?
Todd Howard: The technology is ours and it is inspired by the technology we have. We have a lot of it. But that's our starting point - the Fallout 3 tech. It started with Morrowind, we went to Oblivion, we did a lot between Oblivion and Fallout 3 because now we had final hardware - with Oblivion we had six months on final hardware, so Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that.
I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we're really happy with. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game.

I can't wait to see the engine they're using for this- from this article it sounds like its a heavily modified Gamebryo, but so long as they get rid of the DERP faces on characters I'll be happy. Maybe they even have Carmack helping their tech?
Bethesda have stated a few times that their next games (i.e. Skyrim and onwards) are going to be using new in-house tech. It's entirely possible that they take some prompts from Gamebryo (As CDPR have taken from BioWare with their new engine) but it won't be a Gamebryo engine.adneate wrote...
Indeed it's probably the GameBryo engine but maybe they dumped the SI face gen system they've been using or overhauled it. They seem to be pretty excited about their tech this time around and as much as people hate on the Gamebryo engine it's got a lot of potential. Just look at some of the high res mods on the PC for both Fallout 3 and Oblivion, they're stunning and in Oblivion's case make a 6 year old game almost look brand new. The biggest problem has always been optimization, if they've got that down pat then things could be . . . interesting.
Plus I'm sure they borrowed a few of id Tech 5's shaders and dynamic lighting systems, after all Carmack and company are part of Bethesda now. Why not check what they've got and see how it can improve what you already have?

Great news!
Current speculation is that the Dragon shown in the trailer is Alduin:

And he seems angry...
Actually, the situation is a little bit more confusing as to what engine they're going to be using for Skyrim, as they've also said that their next project will be built upon the same engine powering Oblivion and FO3, although an updated version of it.OnlyShallow89 wrote...

It's possible they've gotten id (Someone else who spells it right, yay!) to advise (As Obsidian did with BioWare for NWN2 and KotOR2) but I wouldn't be surprised if not. They acquired id in mid-2009, and if they're really aiming for this 11/11/11 date after a good two/three years of development, then I doubt they've taken much (If anything) from id's Tech 5.
Eurogamer: Has he [Carmack] helped to solve any technical problems in your games?
Todd Howard: Not specifically. He's helped validate some of our thinking. So if we say, "Hey, this is how we're doing shadows, you're John Carmack, what do you think?" And he says, "You're going about it the right way," and he gives us some things to consider at a high level - things he's messed with in shadow filtering and so forth. It's up to us to go try that and see how it registers in our tech.
Eurogamer: Oblivion and Fallout 3 were huge successes, but what can you do to improve still as a company?
Todd Howard: There's always stuff to improve. If I had to take a step back, I think our worlds are very good, I think we're on the cutting edge as far as that goes. When it comes to the characters and the animation, I think there are other people who do it much, much better. That's something we've put a lot of time into - not just technology but people and talent, and how long we spend doing individual elements.
How other characters behave and look on the screen is the next thing people need to do better. There are people doing it really well, but by and large the environments look good and it's just getting people to behave in those environments better.
Indeed. It could be that what they've done is similar to what CDProjekt have done with TW2. The Witcher's engine was a heavily modified BioWare Aurora 2007, with the ratio being about 80% CDP's work to 20% of BioWare's (That's how heavily it was rewritten), but with TW2 they've changed it to 100% CDP.Morbo wrote...

They should get their story straight.
The Nords, being a warlike people, have a destructive version of every single one of the Nine Divines. Alduin is Akatosh, who's quite benevolent.Bad King wrote...

Uncharted 3, is releasing 11/1/11.
And apparently it will be on the rise of dragons again or something, according to the UESP.
I saw the transcript:You should have acted.
They're already here.
The Elder Scrolls told of their return.
Their defeat was merely delay
Til the time after Oblivion opened.
When the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood
But no-one wanted to believe.
Believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawns:
It dawns in fire.
But.
There's one they fear.
In their tongue, he's Novak'leen Dragon Born!
Sexy. Very sexy.

Maybe TES V will feature a fixed, Nord protagonist? Because yes, it wouldn't make much sense to play with for instance a Dunmer in Skyrim. Pretty much any Elf gets decapitated on sight deep into Skyrim (and hence the common "Seen any... Elves?" Nord line from Morrowind).

Not that you'd expect them to say it looks like crap or anything, but it would seem its not just a slight modification of Gamebryo necessarily.
You'll be very hard-pressed to find a game from a so-called AAA developer that doesn't look better than DA2.adneate wrote...

Very interesting! I can't wait to see what they're using. I'll take bets right now that it'll look better than DA2 does.
