Maybe TES V will feature a fixed, Nord protagonist? Because yes, it wouldn't make much sense to play with for instance a Dunmer in Skyrim. Pretty much any Elf gets decapitated on sight deep into Skyrim (and hence the common "Seen any... Elves?" Nord line from Morrowind).

Fixing any aspect of the character in an Elder Scrolls Game seems very un-Bethesda and unfaithful to the franchise as a whole. They have race modifyers that determine how much someone likes you based on your race so they can simulate the sentiment but beyond that seems unlikely. Besides I always play Bretons!

Seconding adneate here, except for the Breton part. Dunmer for me, all the way.

You'll be very hard-pressed to find a game from a so-called AAA developer that doesn't look better than DA2.

I lol'd.

Thank God for that.  The gamebryo engine seriously blows and is long past retirement.

Yeah it was time for an update.

My one wish for this game is they make ots mode work as well as first person. I never was a fan of melee combat in first person view point. Its very limited.

They are actually using an "enhanced" version of the current engine they are using, which is Gamebyro.

I just hope it isn't as glitchy and ugly looking as the current incarnation.

The BethBlog twitter said they were using new tech on a brand new engine. Which would mean it's not Gamebyro any more and something new.

Because Redguard did so well.

Hopefully Bethesda will show some type of demo to demonstrate this new engine "soon".

Ha! I don't know. There's some rumor the Nords are actually going to be nice to the Dunmer, especially when they lost their homeland.

That's not very good news, actually, since it means I may have to upgrade my PC. Especially if it's id Tech 5.

Rumor has it that Skyrim will be on the cover of February's Game Informer, and they usually unveil the next issue's cover at the beginning of the month. So likely early January. Unless of course they release stuff earlier than that.

Its not Tech 5- Todd Howard said as much in that Eurogamer interview. Rather its something based on their own tech, which makes sense considering Bethesda only acquired id last year and they've been working on Skyrim since before they were even done with Fallout 3.

Personally, I am more hyped for Skyrim than ME3 itself. I mean, it has been so long since the last Elder Scrolls game, whereas it has been less than a year since ME2's release. Anyone share a similar disposition?

I've been playing Oblivion as of late (forcing my self to finally finish the game and xpac) and no, I am not hyped about Skyrim at all. For some reason I think it's very easy to forget exactly how bad Oblivion was. Poor leveling system, monster scaling which made escort quest nearly impossible, a unnecessarily large map filled with very un-unique places, boring combat, boring spells, boring class make up, and a dialog systems that was mainly, "Rumor" which was often met with a reply of fact and not town happenings.

The game had one voice actor per sex/race and most of them were poorly done. The editing was crap and the tone would rapidly change from line to line. (This was painfully clear in beggars) I mean I can go on and on about the failing of this game including the fact I've have yet to play a Bethesda game that doesn't crash after an hour or less of play.

Skyrim has a lot to over come, and I will give it a fair shake when more info is released, but as of right now I have little to be hyped about.

That's why you play it with mods. Certainly, the sandbox nature of the game does dilute the urgency of the plotline somewhat, but for those who like to play with mods, Oblivion is certainly a memorable game. But otherwise, I do share some of your concerns.

The conversation system could use an overhaul, I agree.

I do. I still can't believe Bioware made 2 sequels in little over a year, if that.

It does have it's faults but good lord man, this game was like a bomb when it landed. It has tremendous strengths.

Two? If you're talking about DA2 and ME3 that's different teams that work on them. I think they might have a few writers in common but not much more.

It was big but that doesn't really mean much does it. And the only strength I can even think of is the world. It looked stunning and might be one of the best ever made in a video game, but that's about it.

That was 6 years ago and Bethesda was a much smaller outfit than it is now. It's equally easy to take the game's faults, which even Bethesda admits it had many, and compare it to a modern game and tell everyone how wrong they are and how crappy this game is as if you've uncovered some great truth that nobody else is smart enough to see. The strengths of the series however still stands after all these years, that is first and foremost the sense of scale and exploration and secondly the sandbox nature of the world. The Elder Scrolls series is the only game in which there is a true feeling of freedom and exploration and that is what people look forward to in a new Elder Scrolls game.

OH! Is that why most feel Morrowind was a better game? Anyway, this isn't about how old the game is. BG2 is still as good of a game if not better than anything that has been made in the last 10 years. And a smaller team does not mean less quality of the product.

My wishlist for this game
1. No/way less level-scaling. It was actually easier to finish the game early level than it was at a late level. I think it's important to make you gradually feel stronger as you level up, not the other way around.
2. Less copy paste zones. Just about every cave looked about virtually identical,
3. Less repetitive. Going through those oblivion-gates over and over became very repetitive, just turned on easy after a while and rushed through them.
4. Hire more voice actors. Fallout 3 and Oblivion had around 15 voice actors to do all those different characters. New Vegas for instance, had over twice as many.
