Ok so I just started playing again with the big world mod (bg1-tob in the bg2 engine) and all has been well but I'm seeing some studdering and performance issues on some maps when I move the whole party or have a biggish battle and what not, this disapears if i enter the local map screen.
I thought it might be a pathing calculation issue but i droped that down to 4k with the enhanced pathing off with no real change(there was a small boost) but since the issue compleatly disapears when i goto the map screen and its not accross all the zones its gota be something else.  I also tried disabling 3d with no effect.

It is possibly a mod issue, this I'm aware of however when i think way back to my bg 1 days I vaguly recall something like this happening back then(may have been bg2 days i cant be sure).  So anyone got ides?

Stuttering is most commonly caused by too many bottomless containers in your inventory (Bags of Holding, etc). Biffing your override generally reduces the amount of stuttering. BWP automatically biffs your override, but if for some reason you skipped the biffing, try that.

Some mods seem to cause stuttering in a BWP installation no matter what (Stone of Askavar being a prime example). If you get a lot of stuttering in that mod, don't worry, it won't be permanent.

Or scripting changes? I can vaguely remember mention of slowdowns due to improved mage scripts in mods such as SCS. I could be completely wrong though.

No, you're right. Forgot about that one, but you remember correctly.

A common cause of stuttering is constantly looping or poorly implemented scripts, especially on party NPCs.

SCS/II does, indeed, execute some extremely long scripts, particularly when spawning enemies and spellcasters.

Any one of these issues might be causing or contributing to the problems you're facing, bulldogc. I'd also imagine a BiG World install could be quite taxing, potentially, on lower-end systems. If you haven't already, you might want to try posting in the relevant forum over at Spellhold Studios, and see if some assistance can be had there.

Figured it out, it was the ambiant sounds. Last time i played this I had a decent sound card and this time im using a crappier onboard one, once i killed those all the problems went away, explains why it was only happening in certain areas too.
