Hmmmm, interesting. I can never
seem to drift away fromm the cliché fighter build. Heres how it works,
run into group, great cleave, and your done[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/blushing.png[/smilie]. What kind of build would help me get away from that style of play?
One without Fighter? A mage? A Rogue? Bard? Druid? Ranger?

A brilliant idea!
I know what your saying, but i just think having 100 spells to choose from is a little overwhelming. I might try a Ranger after my FS/SL/DC build.
I might even throw in some Arcane Archer. That sounds interesting.

My favorite build/playthrough still remains a smooth-talking, utterly amoral half-drow bard (with a couple rogue levels to take care of locks etc...which were also in character). The game always ends up labeling her as chaotic evil, though I'm not sure I totally agree with that. Evil to me suggests some intention to harm...where as Chloe is just so self-centered not to really think about other people, lol.

Kaldor: hmmm I might try a rouge assassin with some spellcasting class in it based on you idea, thanks!
nicethugbert: Thanks for the tip, ill take some fighter for bonus feats (maybe paladin)
Sarielle: I love drow!

You can try a Bard/Assassin for that. It should be funny.
Are you looking for a specific playstyle?
If you want to play a caster and have problems choosing spells, try a memorizing class first (Wizard, Cleric, Druid). I prefer spontaneus casting, but choosing the right spells may be difficult if you don't know what you're doing.
As for races, it depends on the build. Human is usually a safe bet, though there are better races sometimes.
Are you going to play the official campaings, modules, or what?

I'm about to play the OC (again for the 100 time) and i know its easy enough for any build, but i want to make one that will be fun to play.

I've got a few order of the stick characters, doing star wars is fun too.
I did a Yoda halfling paladin/sorceror/eldritch knight, did gust of wind ( i modded that to actually knock people over ) and force wave ( custom spell on my pw ) for jedi powahz. Only thing i could not get was him being green. I still waded in with rapier flying ( there is a lightsabre rapier mod on the vault ). But you can do almost any character you know and like, especially one with oddball fighting style.
Half the fun is trying to find ways you can make things those characters can do be something you can legally do. If in SP you can download custom content to help with appearance, but most PW's already have a lot. Note that many PW's do frown on a bunch of "Yoda" running around faerun since seeing jedi can really destroy the feeling of being in their medeival world, but if you talk to a DM and use it as more inspiration than literally copying, they can actually help give you the same problems the character you are basing yourself on has, and help you make such a character fit into the lore they are trying to establish.

Won't kill everyone, but then those movies were a high level fighter taking out a bunch of low levels and making it look dramatic.

Watch any fantasy movie, Conan, the D&D movies, even harry potter, or even historical figures. 3 Musketeers, Zorro, even the Marx brothers. ( a Harpo would be very interesting, not sure on the horn ) How about lethal weapon. A good one is Stargate, its so campy i just can't help but enjoy it. You also can read the many pulp books about faerun ( just don't let anyone else see you playing Drizzt as there is a new guy doing that each week )
Don't focus on the literal ( they have guns ), focus on the equivalents. Creativity is often juxtaposing something borrowed, but putting it into a new situation, and seeing what happens. What if Lex Luthor happened to be a warlock who summoned demons. Or someone like Loki. Imagine someone like that wading in, i don't think so, i see them setting up a trap and watching a slaughter.
The question was that you had, how do i make the game play different, what i am suggesting is a tactic to make you follow a script different than what you are used to. The games playstyle is really up to you, it's not a just a build you need, its also playing a role, and using things you know as you start out can really help you move to that next level.
