I've tried to capture some of the known issues with Export in the wiki.

As always, it's very possible that my knowledge is incomplete, or more appropriate for standalone campaigns than OC modding, so a second opinion would be appreciated.

heyas pro;

appreciate all the help youre giving the wiki.

i don't think i can help... (unless i ever figure out that 'cannot read area list info' error. grr!) unless maybe to suggest adding what errors and/or warnings exporting might generate and how to interpret them? or which you can ignore safely?

i dont know if you wrote this section, but i dont understand this bullet point:

* It's always wise to export areas before testing. (etc)

how do you test an area if you dont export it?? the rest is incomprehensible to me, but that might be because i don't work with areas very much. but... if you mean to say if you change the lvl file, or re-do the lightmapper on the lvl, you need to re-export the area.... i don't believe that is true? as i have seen lvl/lightmapper changes on an area that i didn't re-export between each lvl file change.

then again, maybe i did it wrong :X

I obviously didn't write that bit very well. Maybe someone else can improve it!

You're right, you have to export an area in order to test it.

Once you've done that once, what happens if you change and export the resource template for (say) a creature in the area?

The surprising answer is that it depends on what you changed.

For example, if you change the creature's Script, it works in game, but if you change the Team, it doesn't.

The same is true for placeables and other objects in the area.

The rule seems to be that any property which appears in both the template and the area instance (such as Team) does not work in game until you export the area again (even if the area instance is using the default template values).
