I too think that the pattern is supposed to be carbon fiber, but more likely based on this:

That is, larger scale pattern, without applied gradient. I think this version is a bit too "intense". The previous checkerboard isn't perfect, but it scales better in the game, plus being "flat" is a plus - it adapts to in-game lighting rather than a pre-applied gradient.  

Maybe take the original pattern but downscale it just a bit (as it's oversized) for higher-res texture?

Not a bad idea Burdokva, though I did try something a little different. This combines the carbon fiber pattern from the last page with the checkered pattern from the ingame armor. I'm actually pretty pleased.

Regardless, this will take some trial and error before I'm fully satisfied with the results.

Wow, thanks so much for giving it a try! Its nice that you have been so open to community suggestions so far, a lot of modders might not have taken the time.

I prefer that texture personally, although i think it needs scaling up a bit, as it looks a little too 'fine' at the moment.

I do quite like that texture, my main complaint with the original texture he showed was that the 'squares'  were a bit too sharp and well defined, like the squares had been painted on as opposed to the armour looking like it had been made out of something that had been 'woven', which is why i suggested adding a slight gradiant like the texture above.

Anyways, what ever look he goes for im sure it will look good, i have been most impressed with his texture skills so far!

Ahh yes, that does look quite good! How about lowering the opacity on the checkerboard pattern a little to let through a bit more of the carbon fiber texture underneith though, as the dark 'squares' are still a little overbearing when put next to the very light grey squares.

These different results are looking awesome. It's nice to see you're working on DLC items as well as the original game content. The Kestrel set is worth it for its shape, but to see it with much nicer textures makes me damned happy. This is why I come on the BSN.

I still quite like the second version with the carbon fiber, but i think what you did here looks just right! A nice blend of the two, its a distinct pattern, but it has that slight gradation which takes the edge off the sharpness and makes it look like it has been 'woven'. Keep up the excellent work man! :D

Apparently new costumes are coming next month. Wonder what they have in store for us, not as good as this stuff I'll bet.

One of the other threads showed the XBox digital release schedule and it was on there. That's been a pretty good source from what I have seen. I'm PC only so, I never see it myself. Here's the link to the thread

Hello folks, sorry I don't have much of an update for you tonight. Busy with homework and all that. This is the current incarnation of the Kestral armor (with N7 arms). It's looking great, and I hope to have it done tomorrow night.

Nice, makes me actually want to bother buying the aegis set. Your work is amazing btw! The team at bioware should take pointers from you.

I never really liked the Aegis - an overpowered armor set that magically appears if you buy a DLC... meh, reminds me of horse armor too much. But I can't wait for the N7 set!



The new mixed texture looks great, in my opinion. I wonder how it'll look in motion, though?

Ahh, thanks man! Lets hope we do get some more squad outfits, i would love to see some proper armour for Jacob or something that actually suggests protection of any kind for Miranda.... XD

Looking good man! Though from further away like that, the carbon fiber weave looks a little fine/small, may i suggest upscaling the texture a little bit? Although if you are happy with it as it is then thats fine too!

The kestrel armor however is a DLC. No point downloading a mod to change the texture of armor you don't have.

Mornin' folks, bit of an update. The arms, torso and shoulderpads are complete for the Kestral armor, so all that's left to do is the legs and possibly some parts of the helmet, if necessary. With any luck, I'll have it done after I get home from work tonight.
