So, it has increased two minutes with just two characters re-textured, or are we talking of more re-textures you are not showing us right now?

By the way, how does the mod work? Do we have to use Texmod?

Texmod is a requirement as I don't know any other means of texture replacement for Mass Effect 2.  And yes, the two minutes extra time is just factoring in the two characters.  However, the loading time doesn't seem to change if I just load Jacob as opposed to loading Jacob and Tali.

Yeah I guess the long loading times and sometimes diving framerates are more related to how Texmod works rather than the size and quality of the actual texture used. It is afterall a hack of sorts.

Indeed.

However, it did just take me 4 1/2 minutes to load Mass
Effect with just four characters loaded in.  I'll need to figure a way
around this... [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]

A small update; testing higher resolution textures on Miranda now.

Posted Image

As you can see, the hexagons are much clearer than they were before. I did lose a lot of the shadowing on her suit though, so I need to go back and add that in.

I'm starting to doubt the necessity for 4096x4096 on all the characters. Tali needs it because her suit is so detailed but Miranda might make due with 2048x2048, along with Jacob and Shepard. We'll see.

Thanks for explaining, both of you.

Miranda looks much better right now. I really love how this mod looks.

2048x2048 is still a huge upgrade over original. No need to waste resources on anything bigger unless we are dealing with something very detailed and something we see quite close.

Hey folks, time for an update, and a lot has happened.

First off, Tali is 100% complete, both her default and loyalty outfit. While good news on its own, I have even better. I said before that loading times were becoming excessive, but this has been almost completely resolved. By changing the texture format from .tga to .dds, I've not only cut the filesize by 75%, I've reduced the loading time to a mere 30 seconds as opposed to 4 minutes.

I'll update this post with some screenshots soon, and will release Tali once I find a reliable host.

EDIT: Screens!  Top is default, bottom is new

Top is default, bottom is new, just in case you are blind. ;)

Meaning it looks fricking awesome! Hopefully it will be available soon, might put New Vegas and ACBrotherhood to rest for a while just to give this a try. Keep up the good work! :o

I apologize for the seam in her neck; if I can fix it I'll replace this download but I've been unable to find the source of the problem as of yet.

Great, JeanLuc. That looks excellent.

I'm looking forward to your Miranda. You'll do the loyalty outfit, too, I hope?

Absolutely.  I intend to do all the loyalty outfits alongside the default, otherwise it'd be a little jarring.  Jacob will be done next (less than two hours of work for him), then Miranda, then probably Kasumi.

Also, for anyone who wants the Tali mod WITHOUT a visible face, I will be uploading that soon.

You'll need to use TexMod for this, which you can download here.

Once you open the program, you'll need to locate your Mass Effect 2 exe file (this will save for future use).  After that, all you need to do is click the "load package" button, and click the mod you want.  In this case, you'd select Tali_Final.tpf

Then click "Run," and you're ready to go.

do i have to use this everytime i start the game?

Cause in my eyes this might get very intense, if i have to load all characters before playing, all the time.

So what i'm asking is : will this packages be implemented in future use, after i declared this once?

Thanks for the fast answer anyway.

You will have to use this every time you start the game.  Because this isn't an official alteration to the game, and it doesn't actually replace any game files, TexMod needs to load the textures before the game starts.

I'm expecting, once all twelve characters are done, that Mass Effect 2 will take an extra 6 minutes to launch due to all the new textures.  It's annoying, I know, but I honestly don't know a way around it.

It's definitely a downside but I figure I'll just make myself a cup of coffee while the game launches

In my experience, the performance impact has been minimal, maybe a loss of 3-5 fps at most.  You will notice a brief stutter the first time the texture appears on screen, but then it will disappear.

I honestly can't give a specific date.  I would hope to have all the characters done before the new year, but no promises unfortunately.

I will be sure to keep everyone updated though :wizard:
