No, but in all seriousness, I had a small happy-freak-out when I found out about the Dragon Age: Origins improved graphics mod. When I saw this...well. I'll leave it up to your imagination.

One thing I don't think has been mentioned is: please let us know if there is any way in which we could help you.

Here's one way: https://www.paypal.c...e-intro-outside

Paypal Donations. Not to take away any intrinsic motivation here, but I would actually love to donate to see this work continued. Improved textures, especially when playing on a 32" TV like mine, REALLY helps with the immersion, which is one of the best parts of Bioware games.

Hell, I'd pay for the new Alternate Appearance Pack for you Jean-Luc, just for granting my request.

Question to those who have it working: Have you found any way to reduce the lag from Texmod without reducing much of the texture quality (which would defeat the purpose)?

I'm not getting any lag during conversations or cutscenes, but when I charge with a Vanguard, when I pivot the camera sharply, and when I run through the Omega lobby, things like that...pretty annoying lag. I'm told this is a problem of Texmod.

Update: Either restarting the game (which did not take the 4 minutes to load like it did the first time) and/or disabling motion blur seems to have GREATLY increased my framerate.

QUESTION: Do I have to load the game through TexMod every single time I play the game? When I started the game a second time, I did it straight through the Mass Effect launcher, rather than loading MassEffect2.exe into Texmod, selecting all of the mods, etc... and the framerate drastically improved. I took a look at Miranda's armor, and it seemed to be lower quality...can't tell if I'm just imagining the change though

Second Edit: Yes. You do have to start from Texmod if you want the modified textures (I think), and there is substantial lag. Which is a bummer. This video card was top of the line when COD: MW2 came out... can't believe it's already dated

Seems I'm one of those people who can't get Texmod to work without substantial lag. Pity :( I really do love the textures from this author.

I used to have problems with Texmod, but for some reason, it cleared up in due time. Did you put the program in with the ME folder?

You are not the only one.
From what I've seen, everyone with an ATI/Radeon videocard gets extrodinary amounts of lag.
I made some benchmarks of using Texmod.

Yep, I get the same, lots of lag from ATI/Radeon using Texmod :(   It sucks because JeanLuc's textures are gorgeous.  I will still use them to take screenshots, but sadly they make the game very laggy, especially when the environments are complex.

Ouch, sorry to hear that you ATI users are having trouble; that was certainly something I wasn't predicting (Nvidia man, here).

If I can find another way to do this mod, I'll go for it but as it stands now, Texmod is the only way I know of.

Here I thought I was the only one ramping up to propose to JeanLuc761. Guess the idea of a paypal donation for coffee funds to keep you going is even better than a gift registry. I suppose, in the words of Gianna Parasini, "I owe you a beer." To keep the obnoxiousness up, JeanLuc: THANKS A LATTE.

For the textures I mean. You rule...going to try out the Liara ones with my latest playthrough once I import my Shepard :)

P.S. I found the ATI card FPS drop only significant on the Normandy bridge and in a couple other locations, notably the first wave of mechs you fight with a full party after ME2's intro. I guess I'm lucky, and I hope the rest of you figure out ways to remedy this or the community works out an alternate to texmod.

I've posted these elsewhere, but I think this one has to make a comeback with the sheer mention of horrific puns.  And Liara, and stuff, and being TOTALLY off topic and horrendous.

Hey JeanLuc

Seems like your very busy with all these textures, but I wanted ask if you could possibly create images similair to your Miranda and Tali 3D png images you had.

Most sort after would be an Hi-rez Ashley, Garrus and Kasumi, would like to make mag covers for all of them.

But I'm in no rush so let me know if you ever get around to it.

oh NO :( You're right, I do have an ATI card. Disabling Catalyst Center helped a little bit, but not much. Combat is still impossible. And there was me thinking my good deal on an HD 5830 would keep me going for years to come! Sigh :(

Ah well, amazing work by Jeanluc nonetheless. I'd still pay to see the work continue, haha. And I hope the developers take a leaf out of your book!

I may be oversimplifying it out of simple ignorance, but I don't see why they couldn't dedicate a little bit of time to a project like yours, creating high resolution textures that would involve a simple file replacement on PC shipments. In other words, we'd have higher quality graphics if we wanted them. Clearly we see it's possible!

Unfortunately for me, nearly every single combat situation I went into had a substantial drop in framerate. When starting to talk to Kelly, there's noticeable lag, but I didn't see lag in any other dialogue semi-cinematic.

Which is a real bummer I must say, the textures look absolutely GORGEOUS but even with very reduced graphics they make the game a huge pain to play. Especially as a Vanguard, as a soldier it wasn't as bad

I didn't have a chance to test this throughly, but I tried to load all the textures at once - and the game pauses to load extra when I'm leaving the bridge and entering armoury, for example. I wonder whether using separate files for usual and alternate outfits would somehow impove the situation.

Or is there maybe some point in making the textures a bit smaller -- for those whose hardware can't handle the original size?

What archiver are you extracting the file with? If you're not already using 7zip, try that one. Also try deleting the file before re-downloading.
