Well, finally got a reprieve from homework so here's another (very small) release. LuxDragon requested that I add the Spectre logo to the high resolution Kestral armor, so here it is in two flavors: One that's a flat texture and one that has a slight bevel on the normal map.

And, before anyone asks, I do have the permission from the guy who made the original mod, which you can find here.

I'll be honest. I was more excited about this than the Apparance Pack.Image IPB

Thank you!!!Image IPB

I did find it amusing that all three of them chose to use that animation at the exact same time

Ok to be clear I am using a 5770 VaporX OC edition in crossfire with the following 3D settings
Standard settings set to Balanced
AA set to use Application settings
AAMode set to Adaptive Multi-Sample,
Anisotropic Filtering set to Use application settings
Mipmap at HIgh Quality
set vertical refresh to Off unless application specifies

all I noticed was about 4 - 6FPS drop from the 60FPS I was getting before
Hope this helpsImage IPB

Okay, tried those settings. I have a single Gigabyte 5770 OC edition. Normally 60fps everywhere except heavily detailed places.
With texmod I still get ~20 fps in the CIC, ~17 at points when talking to TIM. It did increase it from ~16 in the CIC and ~13 when talking to TIM, so at least that's something.
Maybe its because you have them in crossfire...

Yeah Spartanburger it might be the crossfire because it certainly improved the graphics when I got the second card.

will turn off crossfire and check it out.

Nice JeanLuc, but not exactly my thing. Maybe if there was writing on a chest "I'm with Stupid" and arrows both ways, that would be more like it ;)

But seriously... Did you have a chance to look into heavy N7?

You sir have made my day! I always wondered why the textures were so low resolution they looked bad even in 720p. Time to try this out and see if it will slow the game down with 512 MB gfx RAM.

Oh, I'm also curious what techniques you've used to remove pixellation over the more repetitive areas...
Edit: I suspect these textures are uncompressed, hence the file size. Could you apply some DXT5 compression to them? (not to normals though!)

Edit2: ATI cards tend to get slow due to memory contention with large textures. Try overclocking memory on your card - should work well, it doesn't heat up noticeably. Also there's this one setting which is in my hqmod file:

###FILE:..\\BIOGame\\Config\\PC\\Cooked\\BIOEngine.ini
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
-BIOVertexShaderVersion=vs_2_0
+BIOVertexShaderVersion=vs_3_0
; Doesn't work on older nVidia
-MaxTextureSize=2048
+MaxTextureSize=4096

New vertex shader = speedup. Not increasing MaxTextureSize makes the game break up the texture into four, apparently ATI cards and streaming get confused pingponging the textures.

What card specifically, and what settings do you use for CCC?

That pretty much answers why you dont have perfomance problems. You have some sick rig there with a lot of FPS headroom for easy and fast running engine like Unreal engine, it doesnt really matter if the perfomance hit is bigger on ATI than Nvidia. I for one had a mere single OCd HD4890. Ran ME2 vanilla maxed out perfectly, but was brought to its knees with even a sight of Texmod. Switched to GTX460 which is rather mild upgrade in overall perfomance, but Texmod issues vanished.

Plus, his settings don't make much sense - he's using no anti-aliasing, so no adaptive )transparent texture) anti-aliasing either, and in the .ini file the default in-game anisotropic filtering goes up to 8x only. Plus, turning off vsync can cause visual artifacts even when your fps are below 60 (standart for LCD monitor). So it's not exactly best image quality... try cranking it up to at least (forced) AAx4, 3x Multi- or Super-sampling AA and 16x AF and performance will be lost.

I can verify Astral Storm's .ini settings, specifically settings vertex shader to v.3. Noticeable boost on ATI cards. I don't think it's a GPU memory problem though, in regards to TexMod, my HD4770 is the fastest of the 4xxx generation (memory wise only) and it still struggles when Texmod is running.

I think it's a driver related issue, probably Catalyst AI, but without that you can't force AA/AF. Pity.

@MaaZeus. Not true. People with 5970's have reported drops all the way down to 20fps.

It's not the power of the rig, it's the card.

I get avg 55 normally, and I'm running a single 5770.

@AstralStorm. I'll try somethings like that and document what kind of performance increse I get. If I find a cure, I'll be sure to write a tutorial on how to get it to work.

@Spartanburger. I removed the second card and all I got was a drop to 40fps but it kept bouncing back up to 60 even in combat and cut scenes, but it was still smooth. I am running Catalyst 10.11 with the same settings. In game settings are set to max with film grain turned off running on a res 1920 x 1080.

I will muck around with the settings in CCC to help figure this out.

I appreciate your assistance in helping ATI users get better framerates.  As an NVIDIA user, I feel kind of bad that the mod is causing such problems :(

Go to the CIC. See how much your fps drops there.
And when talking to TIM. Those are the places that kill it for me. Everywhere else its 30 minimum 55 average.

@Spartanburger

Just how low do the fps get there?

The worst I could get was CIC 15fps and TIM 10fps but the game was still smooth and the graphics good.

yeah, that's about right. there are a few other places where that will happen. I'm gonna run benchmarks on solutions today.

Lol, why do feel bad, JeanLuc? It's not your fault Texmod & ATI don't get along.

I might be wrong, but it seems like whenever there are holograms involved, with Texmod ATI goes ape**** with its framerates, no matter what and how big texture mod you use. CIC is obviously the easiest example.

Great work, the textures look good in the game.

I am curious, how are you upgrading the resolution on the textures? Are you simply resizing them to 4096? If so, don't you have some aliasing issues?

IIRC he resizes the originals and then paints on them. He is drawing and painting new textures with originals as a base, adding personal touches whenever needed. Am I right?

I really love the improved Tali texture with the eyebrows. It makes her even more loveable when you can see her facial expressions... From the nose up at least.
