Great work, the textures look good in the game.
I am curious, how are you upgrading the resolution on the textures? Are you simply resizing them to 4096? If so, don't you have some aliasing issues?

IIRC he resizes the originals and then paints on them. He is drawing and painting new textures with originals as a base, adding personal touches whenever needed. Am I right?

Simplified, but that's exactly what I'm doing.

Thanks for the continued support folks, I hope to have another texture out this weekend.

Edit2: ATI cards tend to get slow due to memory contention with large textures. Try overclocking memory on your card - should work well, it doesn't heat up noticeably. Also there's this one setting which is in my hqmod file:

###FILE:..\\\\BIOGame\\\\Config\\\\PC\\\\Cooked\\\\BIOEngine.ini
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
-BIOVertexShaderVersion=vs_2_0
+BIOVertexShaderVersion=vs_3_0
; Doesn't work on older nVidia
-MaxTextureSize=2048
+MaxTextureSize=4096

New vertex shader = speedup. Not increasing MaxTextureSize makes the game break up the texture into four, apparently ATI cards and streaming get confused pingponging the textures.

Okay, I am never overclocking this card again... it's a long and complicated story, but lets just say that overclocking does NOT work.

As for the .ini settings... how you do that?

Just how low do the fps get there?
The worst I could get was CIC 15fps and TIM 10fps but the game was still smooth and the graphics good.

yeah, that's about right. there are a few other places where that will happen. I'm gonna run benchmarks on solutions today.

I found the only things worth tweeking were the Anti-Alasing Mode and the Smoothvision HD Anti Aliasing. The rest could be at max and made no difference to performance.
You may already have these settings but I ended up getting 17fps at the CIC and a minimum of 12 with TIM
all other settings on max with the HD AA at 8x Box or 12x Narrowtent.
AA Mode on Adaptive Multi Sample or Performance.

Edit coalesced.ini. Get an editor (http://social.biowar...m/project/1854/), navigate to BIOengine.ini, find the two entries and change their values.

*Looks around the corner*

JeanLuc, any chance we'll get to see a high-res version of Miranda in armor?

It'll happen, though I'm completely uncertain as to when.  I've got a busy week ahead of me with school and work.

Woohoo! Finally made some progress.

Finally figured out why the normal map wasn't turning out right, so this might actually mean I can fix that annoying seam on Tali's neck. Stay tuned!

Is this for the tux or for the uniform?

The tuxedo is done (unless I can think of a way to improve it), and the crew uniforms are being worked on.  As you can see, the hexagons on the chestplate are now clearly defined and part of the normal map.

This thread makes me happy.

*tear* ME2 just looks...just looks so beautiful now.

Nice to see that seam gone...although I probably won't understand a word you say afterwards...how exactly did you fix it?

The solution was quite simple, actually, and I hate myself for not thinking of it before.

The normal map I extract was inverted, meaning that everything was backwards.  So, I grabbed the proper normal map, added in the detail again, and everything looks right.  :wizard:

Excellent! Looking forward to the next downloads.

Meanwhile, as I've been playing through ME1 again, I just want to say thanks again for the excellent Garrus fix in ME1. Worlds of difference!

(still secretly hoping for an updated Liara back-port for ME1, but take your time, of course ;) )

Alright, one last update for tonight (Tali upload isn't working; something's wrong with my internet).

For now, I leave you with this comparison image of Joker's new uniform. This will likely be the last preview image before I release the Cerberus uniform, both male and female (will apply to crew members and Shepard).

Seriously, if nobody manages to come out with a pcc compiler or some other method of inserting these into the game, I'm not playing Mass Effect 2 anymore. Knowing that these textures exist and having to use the awful low res ones is a torture...

Fantastic work, Jean Luc! The normal map adds a lot to the detail. :)

...

Dude, its been explained how to get them in game. Use Texmod. Then you can have the hi res textures.

Sure. It's just that using Texmod results in a 4+ minute wait to start the game and drops the framerate by 2/3 for ATI users. A method to actually replace the low-res textures instead of replacing them at runtime would solve that.

Looking forward to the Cerberus uniform! :)

Fantastic news! As good as the skin is, the seam was distracting. Couldnt help but keep staring at it. ^_^  Did you upload this already?

@MaaZeus:

He hasn't yet. Something wrong with his internets.

@Opedal:

Search for "Texmod" here on the forums. You'll get all the information you need.
