I was just about to ask for a "medium" texture pack. 2048X2048 is larger than my screen already and I clocked loading I think 3 of these textures at 6 minutes.
btw, THANK YOU. This does make the game look better. I'm surprised Bioware hasn't released something like this already.

Quite honestly, the loading times have gotten so severe that even I've stopped using the ultra-high res ones for anything other than promotional renders.

Also, you'll be happy to know that I'm going to be combining the 10 non-DLC squadmates into one package as a matter of convienience (and added stability for Texmod).

Ah, excellent. That should make dealing with texmod loadouts much more convenient.

Though, I imagine this will be a pretty large file. :o

Kasumi looks great, by the way. Looking forward to seeing her in game this weekend. As she's one of my most commonly used squadmates, this is a most welcome addition.

Well, after testing an "optimized" pack for the 11 completed squadmates (2048x2048 textures instead of 4096x4096), I have this to report:

- In-game loading times appear to have been cut in half.
- Visual impact is definitely noticeable, but still a considerable improvement over the game's default textures.
- Actual loading time for the game is just over 3 minutes, with an estimated <4 minutes for all 12 squadmates. For comparison, loading the un-optimized textures for the 11 squadmates takes approximately 12-13 minutes.
- In-game performance seems to have been improved considerably; I notice much fewer and less severe framerate dips.

Interesting. May I ask some screenshots for comparison?

This. Also now that the textures are getting smaller, I might be able to run more of them. Cant wait.

I've noticed a bug (only happens when I use the HD textures)

Will you still make available optimized textures for those of us who don't mind the loading times? The longer it loads, the longer I have to get a bite to eat. ;)

Jean,

Do you plan to make 12 separate 2048x2048 packs or just settle with one file for all squaddies?

This is a bug with the game regardless of High res texture use or not.

You know, the loading times are fine by me, but I dunno about you guys but I hate the random FPS drops

Sure, I can grab some in a bit.

Yeah, I'm not going to take down the downloads I already have.

I think I'm going to bundle it all in one. In my experience, texmod runs smoother and more stable when it's one mod instead of several, and since it's optimized it shouldn't result in severe loading times.

For example, out of the characters I tested, only Garrus and Tali seem to need the 4096x4096 textures (Tali's cloth, especially). Everyone else still looks fantastic with 2048x2048, and the game runs better for it.

When you get about the same result with less than half the performance cost, I'd say optimization is a glorious thing ;)

Well, I've changed my mind a bit.  I said earlier today that I would only be releasing the optimized textures in one big package, but that limits the choice for you guys a little too much.  So, here's each individual package for the optimized characters.  Tali is not on the list because, in all honesty, I couldn't lower her texture resolution without sacrificing far too much detail.  Garrus is now a mixture of 2048x2048 and 4096x4096 textures, knocking 30mb off the filesize and speeding up loading time.

This is just a test on my system, but it only took 4 minutes for me to load all 11 optimized packages.

Jacob
Jack
Kasumi
Legion
Miranda
Mordin
Samara
Thane

Any advice for the random FPS dips though? ME2 runs great on my PC by itself, but Texmod just causes it to **** itself to like 15-30FPS randomly.

The optimized textures seem to help this problem, but most of that is from Texmod itself.

I'd suggest you to subdivide everything in this way:

- Ultra-Hi-Rez pack (the 4096x4096) with everyone, for who have an enough powerful Pc to use them.

- A first Hi-Rez pack (2048x2048) with the basic squadmates that can work good without the Ultra Hi-Rez too (so everyone except Tali).

- A second Hi-Rez pack with the Shepard's face, armors and uniforms, and Normandy's crew stuffs too.

- A third Hi- Rez pack with the DlC-related stuffs, so Liara, Kasumi, Zaeed and the AAP's outfits.

- Keep Tali as standalone with highter rez textures, also because so it's possible to choose between your custom face and the regular version of her.

So all your skins will be avaiable in something like 3-4 packages, keeping loading times at a decent level, and reducing risks of instability/crashes caused by TexMod. Eventually you may merge the Shepard and Regulars squadmates pack, to ulteriously reduce the number.

That's as a I said, just a suggestion. I guess it's better finish with Grunt and the DlC outfits before thinking of the final packages...

That's what I'm thinking, though you have some good ideas.

The way I have things set up now is a bit of a clusterf*ck.  I promise to make it more organized once I can figure out the best way of managing things.

I don't think anyone complained about the organization, considered how good are your textures ;) But you also pointed that less packages means more efficency, so I tryied to give you a little input about that :)

Sounds like a good idea. Those of us with higher end machines can still get what we want. Maybe ME3 will address the issue, we can hope...

The only thing that seems to be impacted by using different numbers of TexMods, or using the high-qual instead of the ultra-high, it load times.

Currently, I use these mods.
BlackLocust
MlackMattock
BlackPhalanx
BlackStockHeavyWeapons
BlackStockWeapons
Dark Incisor Rifle
HD Eyes 1.2
Fixed Visor
Garrs AA Final
Garrus Revised
HD Normandy
HD Wood
Jack Final
Jacob Revised
Kasumi Final
Legion Final
Liara LOTSB
Miranda Final Revised
Mordin Final
N7Armor Female
N7Armor Male
Normandy Uniforms
Samara Final
Shepard Cerberus Casual
Shepard Formal
Shepard KestralSpectreNormalMap
Tali Final (visible face)
Thane Final
Zaeed Final

FPS does not change from using one mod (the fixed visor), no mod (only launching through TexMod) or all of them. The same FPS decreases at the same locations.
I have managed to increase my ingame loadtimes be replacing the .bak file that is the loading animations with basic .bak.
The only change is in initial loadtime. When I had around 23-25 mods enabled, it took me 14 minutes.

Well, if nothing else, the optimized pack will be more convenient than loading all those mods separately. That said, the framerate dips now appear to be COMPLETELY gone (on my computer at least), and the overall performance appears to be far more consistent.
