I swear, sometimes you just can't win. Soon after I got my new card, my C: drive decides it's going to die on me. It's going to be a few more days without any updates, folks.

I want to do the same thing, but I cannot get FRAPS to take pics every second. It stops after 3 shots . I have ea digital copy of the game. Do I have to rename FRAPS to the ME2 exe to get it to work right? Without texmod FRAPS works fine, but no hi-res.

I wish I could give you some help, but all I did was install Fraps as normal from its own installer download.  Once installed, I launched FRAPS, checked the option in the Screenshots section to "Repeat Screenshots every 1 second." and the option to minimize FRAPS to the taskbar (personal preference; it works fine with or without this setting), then ran texmod as usual.  I don't know why you would rename the FRAPS program to the ME2 executable; FRAPS is just an overlay program that takes screenshots, movies and shows you your Frames Per Second; It's not a launcher like TexMod.  I'm using the original Disc-Based Collectors Edition of the game, so I couldn't comment on any particular issues when using the downloadable versions otherwise.  Pressing F10 during gameplay starts the screenshots and pressing it again stops them, and although I haven't left it running for more than a few minutes at a time (Mostly during cuts scenes) it seems that it would run forever if I let it.

I am playing at 1920x1080 with whatever graphics settings in the Mass Effect 2 Configuration tool are maximum (can't remember since it has been so long since I set them) as well as running my Catalyst settings at maximum.  Despite the issues with ATI cards and TexMod, I have dealt with it so I can get the awesome screenshots.  I have a single HD5970 and my FPS vary from 50 down to 7, with the worst being when talking to The Illusive Man and in the Normandy just like pretty much everyone else:  I don't know if it has been mentioned, but I think this FPS drop is somehow tied to the "holographics" like the Normandy control panels and the star behind the Illusive man and his control panels.  Anywhere with lots of Holographic Panels bogs right down when running TexMod.  Without TexMod, I can run at 60FPS (which is the max due to the game engine/Vsync apparently) pretty much without any FPS dip with Catalyst settings maxed out.

JeanLuc are you sure your power supply isn't going bad and damaging your hardware?

On another note, I remember a year ago when the 8800GTX in my older computer died.  I couldn't figure out what was going on, and thought the motherboard died.  I finally figured it out when I hooked the computer up to an old monitor without a DVI input and used a DVI to VGA adapter and was able to get a (badly artifacted) image on the screen of the video card hanging up the computer.  Not wanting to spend 150-250 bucks on a computer that wasn't going to be used much anymore, I found an article on people who put their dying nVidia video cards in the oven and baked them to (supposedly) heat up bad solder connections and make them reconnect.  Basically you strip the card down to just the board, put some tin foil balls under the edges of the card to keep it up off of the surface of the baking sheet, and heat it for like 9 minutes at 380F.  Then let it cool a couple hours.  I put that card back in and couldn't believe it, but it worked.  That was in November 2010 and that video card is still in that computer, and working just fine.

The voltages all appear to be perfectly fine, so I'm none too concerned about that aspect.  the hard drive in question is about 5-6 years old and it's recieved HEAVY use.

Haha, yeah.  I'm glad you made me check though; I wouldn't have thought of it!

The only one that made me raise my eyebrow a little was that the -12V was reading -12.8v, but that doesn't seem wildly out of tolerance.

With no load, that is probably not a problem, but I'm no expert on power supplies for computers :D

I've had a question about the Liara texture that replaces the "base-game" Liara face with the Lair of the Shadow Broker face. Does it not replace the eyes? They seem much paler blue/gray in the base game and much bluer in the LotSB mission, although the face is wonderful :)  I'm guessing the eye thing has to do with the base game using a "default" eye texture that would replace it for other models too.  I was just curious :)

Thanks :)  Although all I did was play the game and pick the good screenshots out.  JeanLuc deserves the credit for how good they look.  His textures are the reason I decided to do another play-though and change a couple of decisions for my favorite Shepard and make this series of screenshots, which I plan to make a set of ME2 wallpapers for each squadmate from.

I'll give it another try. Without Texmod it tells me FRAPS sees ME2 launching (Logitech LCD keyboard). I have a Nvidia tri-sli setup and currently higher end CPU, so no frame drops, it just moves along with or without Texmod and Fraps, I am also on 1920x1080 with everything on high. I'll check my setting again then, thanks. I want to wait for AAP2 before another runthrogh. :D (I know, it's coming.)

Bioware, if you're going to do a close-up like that, please up the resolution a bit next time! We can handle a 512x512 texture for a photograph.

I have been looking for this texture you did JeanLuc, but couldn't find it.  Did you ever post a link to it?

Does this only affect the startup loading time, or does it affect every single loading screen too? If the only thing affected by Ultra is the startup load time to 10 minutes, I think I could handle that. I had to deal with that for 7 years playing Final Fantasy XI, so I don't really care when a game has a long startup.

But if I also have to deal with like +30 seconds onto every other loading screen I'll probably pass.

I only noticed a difference on my startup. I haven't actually noticed much difference on the loading screens. Maybe a couple seconds but I have no sense of time.

On my machine (ATI HD5970) the only difference is the startup time when between the 2 qualities of textures. The FPS drops are almost identical when running all of the Optimized textures versus the Ultra-Quality textures. When I run the game with all of the TexMods I use (about 18 or so) including the Ultra-Quality textures, it takes around 7 minutes to launch (I have never timed it to know for sure). I also have to re-sign into the Cerberus network EVERY time I use TexMod, regardless of what textures or how many.

I have to do that already anyway. That being said, this sounds good. I'll probably give it a shot tonight. Worst-case scenario I can always remove it.

Thanks!

EDIT: Yeah it has me on that black screen for like 5 minutes, but it's a HUGE improvement in the graphics. It's actually ridiculous how all my squad members look so pretty, and then it shows Shepard's face or like another NPC's face or something and it's like "waaa! you're not pretty, kill it with fire!" XD

I'm really interested to try these textures out but I have a problem: the texturemod won't run. I click on it and it seems to load(shows up in taskmgr too for a while) but no window or anything comes up. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I tried running the exe as an administrator and in different compability modes. I also made a exception to my anti-virus software(avast) and checked that firewall isn't blocking it. I also tried to run it when it is placed to the ME2\\Binaries -folder and renamed like it should when using Steam version(I have the retail).. Should I try something else? Any suggestios and fixes are welcome.

Couldn't tell you what might be wrong, but I have the retail collectors edition, and all I did was unzip the download to my "Downloads" folder, which created a "TexMod" folder there. Inside is the TexMod.exe and a readme. Simply double-clicking the .exe causes TexMod to run, and it was not necessary to rename it to the Mass Effect .exe file or place it in the Binaries folder. Perhaps you have a corrupted download of TexMod?

Hey, JeanLuc, how are the new textures coming along? Any chance for a preview? :)

Don't take this as a request, but how hard would it be to "reverse-engineer" some of the textures you've already done for ME2 for the original? For example Legion's textures => Geth troopers, Cerberus => Alliance crew fatigues etc.

Would it be at least possible for you to realease a slightly modified version of Dr.Chackwas' (awesome) texture that can be used for all the other that use the horribly low-res scientist outfit? Liara and many NPC on Ferus use a slightly recolored version of that texture.

The only other (major) characters that I think could use some work are Saren and Benesia and maybe Ashley, Anderson and Kaidan's faces.

Yeah, I know it's a long list, but it's bothering me just how much better ME2 is starting to look compared to the original.

By the way, I tested the FXAA (if anyone's interested) and ME1 at least is lag-free playable (on main worlds, at least) with Texmod with AA enabled. Plus, hacking some of the ME2 shaders in Me1 works! Sadly, I didn't backup the entire "Engine/shaders" folder from my ME2 install to fully test it

It's around 700k, could anyone please upload it in an archive?

Oh, man. Nothing seems to get the textmod.exe working properly. I've re-downloaded it multiple times and used different programs to extract the package. No help.

Is there any other way to install these? They are simply textures so is a "manual" installation possible or overly complicated?

Alright folks, my computer is officially functional once more. I think I've ironed out all the kinks.

I shall return to textures shortly!

@Burdokva

Very few of the Me2 textures I've run across are fully backwards compatible with Mass Effect 1, sadly.

Can you give the steps you are trying? You tried the steps on the first page of this thread?
