I tried doing it exactly by the book as in the original post. It didn't run so I tried running it as an administrator and in the possible compability modes(e.g. XP Service pack 3 mode). It still didn't work. Then I made exceptions to avast, malwarebytes and firewall that they don't check textmod.exe and allow it to run without prompting anything(only avast noticed the textmod on the first time I ran it and I choose to always run it like any other program). It still didn't run.

Then I re-downloaded the package and repetad these steps above. Still doesn't run. After this I re-downloaded it again and tried different programs to extract the file(if th extraction was corrupted). I tried winrar, iZarc and 7zip. I repeated all the steps to these new extracted files but still not working.

I also did the part for Steam version users even though I have a retail one.

I can see the program starting in task manager but after the process gets to few megabytes in size it goes away. No error messages or anything. I'm using Windows 7 home premium, specs propably aren't needed.

I'm running out of options here.

As luck would have it, all of my save files for Bioware games have mysteriously disappeared even though I backed them up.

I can't win :pinched:

Backed up where? PLease don't say "the cloud". If you have the disk and haven't written over it, they are there somewhere waiting to be found.

FXAA for Mass Effect

Essentially, it's a CPU-handled post-process anti-aliasing, supposedly with minimal framerate impact (according to the thread). Since on ATI card Texmod causes huge framerate drops, using forced-AA most ATI cards couldn't handle it - if this works, Mass Effect 1/2 could finally be both jaggie free and using high-res textures at a reasonable framerate!

Anyone with an ATI card willing to test it? I don't have ME1/2 installed right now. Jean Luc, sorry to hijack the thread - could you also test it, and maybe post it on the first page if it indeed works?

Just imagining smooth framerate with AA and high-res textures... insta-replay once I get home.

ARGH!


I'll do some benchmarks when I have the time and post the results.

I know you're busy Jean, but I am dying for the Miranda AAP armor :) I am almost to the Suicide Mission and I want her wearing the AAP armor for it and I want to make some screenshots :D  I really hope you can find some time to work on it.  Looking at all of Miranda's good looking companions using your textures while she is stuck in low-res world in her AAP armor makes me sad. :happy:   I have made a ton of nice screenshots so far with this play through though thanks to your textures.

Another thing that has really been bothering me in Mass Effect 2 is the cutscenes, what the hell was Bioware thinking? Low res cutscenes? Really? Oh and JeanLuc, thank you so much for doing all this awesome work so fast and you're actually doing it for free. Amazing. I wanted to ask, when you're done with all the character textures, what will you start doing? Environment, weapons etc?
Edit: Is there any existing fix to the cutscenes?

From the videos of Mass Effect 3 I see they have vastly improved the facial animations and textures look spectacular. At least judging from this video.

Unless I'm mistaken, that is just the uniforms for the entire crew.  I am guessing that MACharlie means the face texture.

It does the same thing as Jean-Luc's mod, it improves textures. And it focuses on NPCs, so no more ugly low-res textures! :)

Man, I need to get back to work on this project. Well, for those of you who don't know, Hurricane Irene will be bearing down on my state in about a day and a half, so I'll have plenty of time inside.

Suggestions on the next texture? Yes, I am aware of Miranda's AAP2

I suggest NPCs since they cover a huge array of different characters - AAP is all good but those are optional - like the science uniform or more importantly the color map for it, Blue Suns/Eclipse armor, and for some reason, Ashley's armor is pretty low resolution...;)
