I downloaded and installed patch 1.04 before I downloaded Witch Hunt 1.1 DLC.  The DLC tries to install patch 1.04, but says it failed to install, which leads to the DLC failing to install as well.  Is there a way around this?

well, i have the same problem. i am one of the poor people that bought witch hunt 1.0 and had the ending dialogues messed up and the no savegame after ending.

Since i wanted to have a savegame after witch hunt ending to import in DA2 i waited for the 1.1 version.

In the patches page there's written that i have to redownload the ENTIRE DLC (899mega...), reinstall and FINALLY i should have the patched version so i can finish the DLC properly.

well, i downloaded the DLC again, tried to install but it states that it can't install patch 1.04 and closes...

I have ALREADY installed patch 1.04, only thing i need is to upgrade the already installed witch hunt from 1.0 to 1.1

Any clue?

To end my post i need to tell that playing properly dragon age and the dlc requires a degree in astrophysics and it was not possible to make playing a game a more complex task.

I am amazed how many bugs, issues, installation problems this game has, there are 5 pages FAQs just to undestand how to make the game recognize you have payed the dlc.

And why not mentioning the hundreds of ingame bugs? The one that prevents you from getting the proper ending at the end of the saga is the most epic failure i have ever seen in videogame history...

Probably i have an answer

When you go in your entitled dlc page, under witch hunt you have 2 choices

download an installer (DOESN'T WORK)

download a DAZIP file and manually install with DAUPDATER

only the second option works

1) REDOWNLOAD the dlc in dazip format and not the selfinstalling one

2) RENAME the fe from .zip to .dazip (if you can't read extensions of known files go in windows control panel/personalization/files and folder and ook in the list unchecking the "hide extensions of known files" line"

3) open the DAUPDATER

4) drag the dazip into the daupdater window

5) click "install" button

6) after the installatin is finished close the DAUPDATER and run the game

This SHOULD make it, i already have to check if the final dialogue works properly though

THANKS bioware to make things simple for us.

You're using the stand-alone installer for Witch Hunt?  If so, try running it as administrator.

Same problem here, installed 1.04 first, then I tried to install the Witch Hunt 1.1 DLC. I used the stand alone version and used Abandonment's suggestion to run it as ADMINISTRATOR. -it worked.

the most simple solution is usually the most effective I feel goofy that running the update as admin wasnt the first thing that I tried, but also did nto have to do that for the other .exe files

I have done all of this and every time after I install the 1.1 .dazip file using the daupdater when I try to exit it say that I have downloaded content that requires a new version of DA use the updater or go to the website. Any idea how to fix this?

Is your DAO patched to 1.04?

I'm not sure how would I go about getting patch 1.04 if it isn't?

Oh,I have the same problem now.xD
So,before installing Witch Hunt I got the patch version 1.04 from this website, but a few problems occured. The first time I started the patch the four dazips actually "installed"and there was no error. When I opened the game up,the "Other Campaing"was still grey.Unavailable.
So I tried doing everything what was in the readme file that came with the Witch Hunt, and I tried a few tips that I found here, but nothing worked.I've patched the game a hundred times by now,and did alot of other stuff, but I'm not getting any results.
Now,can someone explain to me,in a very simple way what I should do?Should I download Witch Hunt and the patch again??Its not a very nice option but if thats the only way, then I will.
I may be really stupid or the installation of this game is a little bit complicated than I thought it would be.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry you're encountering trouble. What version of DAO do you have (original or "Ultimate Edition") and how did you get it (retail disc, Steam, EADM, etc)?

Okay... if you had problems updating the 1.04 patch, I'd suggest backing up your characters, uninstalling everything, rebooting, and then installing the game and then 1.04. Your DLC should download and install automatically after that, through the game. There is no need to install the Witch Hunt 1.1 patch, as it will come already fixed when you download it again.

Ok,I burned my characters on a disk,(made backups)
You're saying that, after uninstalling my original DAO and the patch version 1.4,I should uninstall Witch Hunt and download it again?:crying:

Uninstalling the game should remove both the patch and any DLC. Make sure you reboot after uninstalling. Then install the game (do not launch), reboot, install the patch (do not launch) and then reboot again. Then you can start the game and let it download your DLC.

OK,this is what I did:
1.Unistalled the game.(rebooted after its removal)
2.Installed the patch (1.04)/(rebooted)
3.Installed the DLC Witch Hunt since It remained in my download file.(I used the daupdater that came with DAO,all four dazips installed successfuly.)

Started the game, still the same thing.Other campainges still grey, the Witch Hunt still disabeled because I'm missing 1.04 patch...

I have no idea what else I could use...could there be a problem if my game maybe isnt original? I bought it in a game shop, but it required crack. Can that be the problem?

Now,this is the readme file from the dlc witch hunt I downloaded:

-=-=Installation=-=-

1. If not already, you MUST update the game to v1.04 for this DLC to work. You can find the patch easily enough on the internet. If applicable, apply a v1.04 No CD patch as updating will overwrite the old .exe
2. Locate and run daupdater.exe in the "bin_ship" folder where you installed the game.
3. Click "Select DAZIPs" and select all 4 DAZIP files in this torrent.
4. Highlight all the files in the list and click "Install Selected"
5. Upon completion, run decrypt_all.bat from the "DLC Decrypter" folder of this torrent.
6. Locate AddIns.xml in "C:/(Username)/Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings" and edit it using Notepad. Replace all RequiresAuthorization="1" with RequiresAuthorization="0".
7. Run the game and check to see if everything worked! Click "Other Campaigns" and the DLC should be visible and playable.

Cheers mateys!

ATTENTION: If you are getting an error while installing the DLC, it is most likely because the encoding of AddIns.xml was changed to ANSI or another incompatible format. To fix this, open up AddIns.xml in Notepad, go to File>Save As... and MAKE SURE the encoding is set to UTF-8. Save AddIns.xml in the same spot, overwriting the original. This should fix your installation problems!

You never mentioned this editing of the addins with notepad,or the decrypter, and is this actually neccessary?I did it the first time, and nothing happened.I did it now after I saw nothing happend, and still nothing did.xD
Oh,and is there any way I could "insert"back my old character and the saves in the game?(I made backups, but I'm not sure in what folder I should drop them. And I'm asking just in case something goes wrong, again.xD)
