The Gallows is very... Well. The name fits. It's pretty intimidating. Being dragged in chains to see that in full work with the executions.. that would be horrifying. I'm guessing this is the main gate into Kirkwall?
Edit: Carver!

Apparently she doesn't have an armor, just a blacksmith's outfit.

BTW, Carver be seen in the background of this screenshot, though it looks like Hawke is a mage, so this theory could be true:
if ( Hawke == mage ) Carver lives;
else Bethany lives;

Also, the weapon and shield design look incredible! I think I'm gonna *cough* borrow that shield from her after I recruit her

Anyway she looks good. I feared she might be a Chantry zealot; being married to a templar and all.

The Gallows art was very nice though- but as more environments are revealed it seems like most of DA2 is going to be in Kirkwall and no where else? Thats not bad necessarily, but I just hope there are a good number of areas to explore.

The whole motto is kinda silly. So, if you have nothing what will you protect? If you have only your life will you protect it with your life? If you only have one pair of smelly socks would you protect em with your life?Khayness wrote...

The shield's nice though, seeing some improvement due to larger texture sizes I guess.
Edit: @Gremlin I think the point is if you're at the stage where you have nothing but your life, you already haven't been fighting to keep what you have with everything you've got so effectively it's your own fault. Her character sounds interesting I don't think I remember having any "good" realist characters.

Smelly socks matter?
The way I interpreted it: "If you don't protect what matters with all you've got, you'll lose everything, and it'll be your own fault."
Also, love her concept art. It's so full of personality.

Then I thought, 'well, at least she knows her place is in the kitchen'.
Not sure that's the message Bioware wants to send, though.
Sorry, but no. That kind of 'armour' works for someone expecting a knife fight... or a stack of dirty dishes. Otherwise it's just hampering your running speed as you flee from anyone who brought something bigger than a knife.

I seems stupid for a tank to wear simple clothing. And for 10 years too

just like in real life, if a soldier gets attacked at home, he may have a weapon but he won't have his armor on and ready to go.
