Recognized by many people as defining the RTS genre (Creating the Genre tends to go towards Dune II but I'm betting there may be lesser known games also) Command and Conquer has gone on to become on of the main staple franchises in the genre producing multiple titles and three seperate universes in the series: The Tiberian universe, the Red Alert Universe, and the Generals Universe.
Full list of games
Command & Conquer > Covert Operations Expansion
Command & Conquer: Red Alert > Counterstrike and Aftermath Expansions
Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun > Firestorm Expansion
Command & Conquer: Renegade (FPS entry)
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 > Yuri's Revenge Expansion
Command & Conquer: Generals > Zero Hour Expansion
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars > Kane's Wrath Expansion
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 > Uprising Expansion
Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight
Note: C&C 3's subtitle is correct
C&C is also famous for using FMV (Full Motion Video) throughout the entire series with only 2 exceptions and to my knowledge is the only major title to do so to this day.
Also three games in the series are available as Freeware downloads:
Command & Conquer
Command & Conquer: Red Alert
Command & Conquer: Tiberium Sun

RIP Westwood
Loved the series, a bit less now, but still one of the best RTS series ever.

AoE is cool too, yeah. But C&C was my second game ever played, after WC1. It's simply unforgettable.

Both AoE and C&C were admirable in their own way.
