I like the look of the slave statues more in the concept art. They're actually on chains and the slaver knight figures look like they're in control instead of just standing around trying to seem menacing.

Or they'd get disassembled for scrapmetal/stone. Or did they left them as a part of open-air museum?Herr Uhl wrote...
Do these statues have some kind of protection on them, otherwise you'd think that they'd get taken down when Kirkwall fell for the first time.
Lol! Very true. Especially the 'laws of physics' part.tmp7704 wrote...
To be fair that's not hard when only one side has to worry about labour, laws of physics, technological limitations and budget.errant_knight wrote...
But Kirkwall makes the Caesars look like pikers when it came to making the populace feel dwarfed by the power of the state.

Yeah, I like that Kirkwall seems to have more of a sense of scale than Denerim. And I'm loving how it looks in the concept art, but the in game shots look very...drab? It just seems like alot of the assets and statues and banners and such are being reused a TON.
I really wish the in game shots could match the colors and dramatic lighting of the concept art.
Lowtown is what I would like to see next. The concept art shows it being cluttered, dirty, etc. Want to see how well that is realized in the game.Apollo Starflare wrote...

It's still a huge improvement on Denerim in that department, but I'm hoping once we get to see more of the place that it'll match the awesome concept art as well.

Considering what happens when there's a ton of deaths and suffering, wouldn't it make sense to spread your official death and suffering out across the city? So as not to sunder the vale in one spot?
Tho I guess if they had a ton of mages they could maybe seal it up.
Plus we are talking about a originally Tevinter city. If the Chantry is to be believed they are the ones who actually physically entered the Fade through a Veil tear. Hell for all we know a Gallow in another city was used in this purpose.PsychoBlonde wrote...

You're assuming that making a hole in the veil wasn't considered desirable. As we've seen in the rest of the game, some magic that can't normally be performed CAN work close enough to a tear.

Well.. that looks depressing. I hope they reveal a carnival or festival grounds next.
Well High Town is where the rich live so I imagine that that place would look totally diffrent from Low Town. I mean at least I am expecting to see manors and palaces. Then there is a place where the poorest of the poor live (the elves) I believed they lived in or near a mine I believe a dev said that. As for the area around Kirkwall... I only know of a region called Sundermount where the oldest of the Arlathan elves went to sleep. So... Who wants to explore some elven ruins to find some goodys.Brockololly wrote...
I just hope each area of Kirkwall ends up looking visually distinct. Obviously the overall architecture and stuff will feel similar, but I hope it all doesn't blend together. And this would go for other areas too outside of Kirkwall- I know they want everything hot rod samurai'd but I hope that doesn' mean everything ends up overly blocky and spikey such that everything ends up feeling to similar and blending together.

Just curious has Bioware said at all how we get around Kirkwall? Is it like Denerim where you get a city-map and hope around to different places in the city. Or is it more open?
Yes, but this time the sections would be bigger, right?Herr Uhl wrote...

It will probably be a Amn/Denerim kind of deal. Sections of the city.
