Tungsten rounds has high damage bonus, but Inferno staggers enemies and has crowd control. Which works better in your opinion?

On levels up to veteran, inferno is HILARIOUS. Shoot into a mob of enemies in a chokepoint, and watch them all dance around as they burn up. On hardcore and up, everything has armour so this is less likely to happen. In that case, you might as well take tungsten for the extra damage.

Don't underestimate the ability to frenzy organic targets with Inferno Ammo. It's a form of mild crowd control, and it is extremely effective.

On a soldier AP is useful because you can max it out faster than Incendary ( because you have to spend 3 points on disruptor to get incendary ), so depending on when you hit level 15 you can have passive, AR and tungsten maxed out. Other than that, later in the game when you have weapon upgrades the extra damage ( tungsten vs inferno ) is tiny, and the ammo effect of inferno is worth a lot.

That depends, for Shotguns Inferno is superior for sure.

For Sniper Rifles, Tungsten is better (for the Widow especially).

For Revenant, Tungsten seemed better to me, because Inferno did not work very often, but I haven't done any tests.

For Mattock, Inferno worked better imho.

Inferno is superior for everything but sniper rifles IMO since people doing the fire dace while you are trying to snipe can be annoying. Otherwise it's not close for me. The damage difference is entirely unnoticeable and free CC is something you should never turn down. Particularly CC that can work through defenses.

You only need to get the defenses of one guy in the group down because the splash effect works regardless. Once the first guy is doing the fire dance all his buddies will do it as well even with defenses up. That is FAR more valuable than anything tungsten ammo does.

Depends on your targets. For synthetics, obviously AP ammo is massively superior to Inferno. For organics though I'd go with inferno. You have the CC ability plus on missions with Vorcha it's very valuable.

On the Viper it's usually okay b/c most ppl will do rapid-fire body shots with it. In this case the Inferno's cc will benefit it the same way it would other guns.

Have you tried Rev + Inferno vs. Rev + Tungsten? Tungsten seemed better to me, it would be good to hear about your experience as well.

Yeah, I liked inferno better since I was usually just as in everyone's faces with the rev on my soldier as I was with the shotgun on my vanguards so it serves the same purpose for me. I'll admit that the damage boost is more noticeable on fast firing weapons like smgs and assault rifles than it is on shotguns or pistols.

Me too, which is why I noticed that the Inferno Ammo effect is not nearly as good as it is with shotguns. I rarely set a group on fire and Tungsten killed quicker..

I personally prefer Inferno, Disruptor, and Cryo over any of the other Ammo Powers because of the CC that they offer. All other Ammo Powers are pure damage, but they're based off the weapon's base damage, so the more upgrades you get, the less damage you're actually getting out of the Ammo Power.

As an example, the Mattock does 50.4 damage per shot base. Tungsten Ammo gives a 70% damage boost against Armor and Health, so you'd get 35.28 damage out of it. That's 70%. However, if you get all the Assault Rifle upgrades, the actual percent of damage done drops to about 40% of total damage done, not the 70% that you're told about. You're basically paying $100 for something, but only getting $30 worth by the end of the game.

Frankly, I dislike any Ammo Power that doesn't have some sort of CC effect.

You get 70% of the base weapon damage. That does not change. The game does not tell you that you get +70% overall damage. I usually prefer CC ammo types too, but for whatever reason Inferno is not that good with Rev (compared to Inferno + shotguns). Inferno works much better with Mattock.
