If Duncan had his eye on Jory, he would have conscripted him if recruitment didn't work. Jory is a knight only, not a noble, so the political implications of conscription are much lesser.

True, I was just trying to point out that Duncan didn't take Jory from his family. Jory did that all on his own.

Then why go all that way for the PC when he knew the answer was going to be a no?

Storywise it makes more sense that he came for Gilmore liked what he saw with the PC and would've preferred them but didn't push the issue until he saw the perfect opportunity.

Duncan is a bit of a douche. Though forcing the issue when Bryce was fine would've probably turned a lot of nobles against him. In the position he was already in that wouldn't have been wise.

He didn't go "all the way" there.  It is presumed Duncan travels about doing whatever, finding recruits whereever he can find them.  He was in Highever, Bryce knew he was looking for recruits and suggested Gilmore as an 'appeasement' to Duncan to keep him from asking for PC Cousland.  Since he didn't have the means to press for his 'first choice' Duncan was content to see if Gilmore would be as suitable.
I am presuming since Jory was also recruited from Highever, Duncan could have already been in the region.  The tournament is mentioned if you play a Male Cousland (where you discuss meeting Dairren in the melees)

Regardless Duncan had no means of forcing the PC to join him. (And I doubt he didn't know about Gilmore before he got there). So going that way just to get a no sems to be to be ridculous. He went there for a recruit (Gilmore) even though he'd prefer the PC.

He's definitely handsome, true.  Not sure about the protecting him bit.  I'd like to toughen up his emotions a bit.  Not that I'm saying it's wrong to have strong emotions, only that they can get in the way.   They certainly appear to obstruct Alistair.

True I felt that way at first. But then I decided everyone else was already so bitter and cold and jaded and I got sick of it.

Gah. I have to redo all my making Alistair king games now.

I'd say it's not "borrowing" balls as such, he has them, there are certain choices in game that will make him tell you off... You can find some of these on YouTube, they are epic...

I thought I'd let you know I just got a royal scolding from Alistair for killing Connor.  The look on his face when he says: "You killed Connor.".  Is classic.  Then when I suggested that we don't revive Eamon he just yells: "What?".

So yeah, he has some balls after all.  He even went as far as planting a veiled threat toward me saying something along the lines that he should just leave it there before he does anything other than put his foot in his mouth.  I would have loved an option retorting that said foot would end up somewhere far more uncomfortable.

And this is true too. I think the attractiveness of voices is often underestimated. One of the reasons I fell in love with my husband was his voice and a south Wales accent...

Thanks for the update... I am such a goodie two shoes I have never received that scolding but watching it is very enjoyable, again, the voice... It seems to me you had a good time, welcome to DA:O one of the best written games ever...

Not the only one with the maternal instinct, I think he appeals to 'strong' women, and there are quite a lot of those in the gaming community because often you are playing with the boys...

Alistair kind of reminds me of my Dad so I'm a bit attached to the ex-Templar. Although I must admit Alistair actually had a slightly better time growing up.

That's interesting Esbatty, my dad had a really rubbish childhood as well... His father left his mother, who died young of a heart attack and he was brought up by his elder brother... Then the Spanish civil war happened... Hummm, I wonder if that kind of stuff influences our choice in partners too.

Hm, I realized part of why Alistair does appeal to me is that he's faithful, and I haven't had a lot of that with men in my life.

Ah. I broke up with Alistair using the "I don't think we have a future line" right before the landsmeet and I...I felt horrible :(

I had to reload because I felt so awful for doing that to him. And the whole "I'll leave you alone...since that's apparently what you want." T_T

You know, the one time Alistair actually got to me was at the landsmeet when you choose to put Anora on the throne and he says something like he had never believed he deserved such happiness but had thought the grey warden believed he did (if someone could post what he actually said I shall give them cookies). And he made this really sad face that made me ;___;. Despite being a total player I had hoped someone would console the warden after Alistair left but no one said a word. I would have even been content with just a snide remark from Morrigan. Instead it seemed as if his presence was easily forgotten.

You know, ever time I hear people talk about how Alistair has 'strong emotions', it keeps reminding me of this.

Just the strong emotions part, not the...various other issues.

Although some of it applied to me but I guess some of it would apply to us all.  This is why I don't understand the fact that all the Templar training didn't toughen him up a bit.  The self-centred child was knocked out of me after 52 weeks of basic training, I don't see why the Templars would put up with it either.  Remember the pillow fight dialogue?  I scrunched my face up in perplexity and thought: "God I hope that is sarcasm.".  That or the Templars have a don't ask don't tell policy?

*edit*  Hell, I just realised I stereotyped a whole lot of people.  But I trust they'll get my intent.
