Hi Folks

Dragon Age II is going to be an awesome game. Those of us at BioWare who have been playing it know this and we try to communicate this to you fans here on the forums or to the presss or at events. However, I understand that no matter how much we say "DA II is awesome" some of you will still have doubts.

So what I am looking for is  what is the one thing you doubt or want more information about for Dragon Age II before we launch? I am putting together ideas of what we need to show to our community to (hopefully) make them better understand Dragon Age II and hopefully convince them that their fears are unwarranted.

So I would like you, the person with dounts, to explain your biggest doubt about Dragon Age II. Now, a couple of instructions:
  • Just ONE concern per person. Please no laundry list of issues.
  • We will have more videos, podcasts, screenshots, etc anyways, so asking for more isn't what I'm looking for. I'm looking for what the subject of those videos, podcasts, screenshots, etc should be.
  • Please explain why you are concerned (saying "I am worried DA II will suck" doesn't help). Saying "DA II will be too much like Mass Effect" also doesn't help (ME is a great game) but if there is a feature of Mass Effect you didn't like and are worried it will affect DA II, THAT is what I want to hear.
  • No arguements between people please. If someone doesn't like "A" and you do, thats fine.
  • If you aren't worried about DA II, don't post. This is only to help me collect ideas for feedback between now and launch. Go post elsewhere and have fun.
  • Posting "I agree with ThatGuy" is fine if ThatGuy has already posted what you are concenred about.
Now, the usual codicil. Just because you express a concern here that DOES NOT mean I will address it between now and launch. If 100 peopel say "I want more info on X" then maybe. If one person says "I am worried there isn't enough pudding in the game" then maybe not.

I'm only leaving this open over the weekend just to get some ideas and it'll be closed on Monday.

So, if you have a worries or concern, please let me know. As I said, Dragon Age II is going to be an awesome game, and we're going to prove it to you.

How well the dialog system will work in practice. With the character traits that carry on et al.

i am worried because of the new style which cares less for details: less npc, less environment polygons, less to see... pls show the community some screens of a FINISHED AREA.

Channeling Brockololly : Pc gameplay, especially the camera is a concern for me since I played most of origins in the isometric view.

I'm worried about no toolset ... to help redesign ugly npc, to add more cute hair styles, and all that fancy stuff toolset offers and make the game really enjoyable

My greatest fear is that DA2 will be lean on character interaction given its shorter length and voiced protagonist. The "Mass Effect" games had few unique dialogues which led to much of the cast coming across as underdeveloped. Will party members have as much breadth and depth as in Origins, or is DA2 closer to the "Mass Effect" series or "Awakening"?

To be completely honest, I do not think I have a single concern that is worth mentioning.

Game Linearity. I'm concerned the game will be a more linear experience and not really give you the opportunity to explore and enjoy or be surprised by the world.

Top of my list I kind of invest a lot in my characters so I would really like to see the ability to change their proportions in game height, width etc. Its a little thing but on the whole I can see what you guys are going for (pure rpg no faffing around) and approve of most everything but I want to make my hawke fit with the image in my mind.

I'm worried that in exploring Hawke's story, there will be too much of a focus on him and his interactions with other characters, and the consequences of his actions and how they affect the world around him will take a backseat.

The one issue that concerns me most is a lack of meaningful choice and consequence. For example, even the "big" choices in ME made little to no difference in ME2. Who was ambassador, who was on the council, etc. How will importing our saved game into DA2 make a significant difference to gameplay and the world itself?

Dialogue wheel and the implication that after some initial data it will start to pick up the tone of answers on its own. I.e., if you answer sarcastically three times in a row, you'll be labeled as a snarky cynic and shoehorned into that for the rest - or part of - the game.

The voiced PC -- it takes away the uniqueness of your character. Will there be an option to use the classic BioWare dialogue system we've been using since Baldur's Gate?

I'm worried that the story will move very fast in between time jumps. Normally a game between Origins and Awakening length wouldn't be a problem--I've invested in plenty of games that short. But I'm worried a game that skips over an entire decade will seem rushed or stilted in an effort to fit everything in.

Having just played Fable III, the beginning of that game was incredibly rushed. There was no time to get your bearings. I was supposed to feel like I was the Princess of the land, and that I hated my brother, but it all happened so fast I wasn't sure what was going on or why I was supposed to care which is positively detrimental to how I, personally, play RPGs. It didn't start arranging right to me until I made my first promise, but then it was too late for me to really care about the world or why I was supposed to be leading a rebellion.

I'm afraid the game will feel too much like "go here, do this" and not slow down, or that the relationships between party members will feel phony because there's only a little bit of time to get to know them over the course of ten years. So while they might be attached to me because we've known each other for a decade, all I can think about is the forced conversations we've been having geared to make me attached to them.

That said, I'm intensely, intensely glad we're going to be warned about the timeskips.

Character interaction and interparty interaction, from banters to interjections to the depth of character dialogues, relationships between companions and personal relationships with companions, especially where it concerns same-sex romances (if any this time around, which is a big worry for me). The world of DAO was very diverse and more culture-based and broad in its depth, so I worry if there will be the same (or more) kinds of inclusive portrayals and not to mention options and content and enriched diversity for players to experience. I'm curious/worried if we will have the same (or more) rich content with companions and NPCs that we did in DAO.

I am conserned that DA 2 will not offer content that isnt vital in the mainquest or is not related to that.

I loved doing things like Kangaxx or Firkragg or the classspecific Quests in Baldurs Gate 2. Or investigating the Beholder Cult etc. These things werent directly connected to the mainquest but they added a lot to the gameworld and where the player stood at. (as well as in "power" as political) ME 2 Mainquests were always under the same banner: Recruit more Companions. I would have liked to do a really cool quest without having that pattern. (A reason why i liked shadow broker so much) I fear that DA2 will be "linear" in that regard too.

I agree with Seagloom. For me, even though Mass Effect was amazing, the only reason I thought Dragon Age was better was because of the depth of the characters, and how unique they all were. For example, the companion quests in Mass Effect don't really have a consequence apart from the fact they don't die. Now, in Dragon Age, it affects how they interact with your PC and the world around them. Also, the Dragon Age characters were funny. Please don't take the humour away! =]

No s/s romance. :(

Well, we all know that Jack and Thane were supposed to be romanced by both FemShep and MaleShep, but BioWare decided to cut these romances down. I really don't want something like that happening in DA2.

Game difficulty, specifically I worry the higher tier difficulties (and your AI schemes) won't have been tuned up to offer the difficulty "I" think Nightmare mode (or whatever it's going to be called) should offer.

I'm going to go with replay ability factor. Origins has replay ability, I'm not seeing this with DA2. I have other concerns, but since I'm only allowed one, hopefully others will hit on them.

I want a story and play time as long as Origins and we're not getting this. There isn't enough information coming out on the game for me to preorder. You guys are behind on getting information out with less than four months to go for launch. Especially for the SE.

Ahem...

THE PC VERSION:

How is it going to actually play to the strengths of the PC as a platform and how, specifically, is the PC version of Dragon Age II going to be a better PC game than Dragon Age: Origins?

Pretty broad, but specific things like having robust hotkeys, being able to scroll through menus and such with the mouse wheel, how the new Tactical camera will work on PC, whether or not the textures on the PC will be gimped by the console memory limitations like ME2 was (having good head textures that turn into a muddy mess below the neck), DRM, possible Direct X 11, whether or not there is any serious consideration being iven to a toolset update- all of those sorts of PC-centric questions.

Basically, despite claiming that Dragon Age II is being developed "simultaneously" across all 3 platforms, Origins was built as a PC game first and it felt like it- is Dragon Age II on PC going to feel or look like its been handcuffed by the technical limitations of the consoles?

Music. I've found that with numerous games the music can make or break the feel of it. What I'm worried about is that the music will be half-assed or (much, much worse) that it would be so unnoticable that you don't even realize it is/isn't there.

I'm worried about the people who sacrificied their warden on Origins and then played with an Orlasian warden in Awakening. We could not import our choices to Awakening and now it's seem we will have to choose if we export the origins' or the awakening's save file.
