My concern is that you are pursuing class differentiation too zealously, and i will be locked out of many ways i want to play. I fear i will now be restrticted to a role based solely on class and that i won't have the freedom to follow a certain theme with a character e.g. can i be a heavily armoured mage? Can i be a very tough (not agile) and strong archer? Can i have a mage that excels in close quarters combat? Must my mage use a staff?

This is my biggest worry. The removal of dual weapon talents for warriors left a really bad taste in my mouth, and Mike Laidlaw's attempts to explain the decision only served to increase my frustration. My feelings are that 1.) class customization is being stripped down in lieu of actually taking the time and effort to truly make the classes unique by giving them more individualized talents/abilities (such as class-specific dual weapon talents for warriors and rogues) and 2.) that one class (in this case, warrior) is being gimped to make another more appealing (rogue). So, I guess my question is this: Will I be limited to playing a specific way with a class, or will there be opportunities to use more unconventional builds (whether they be through normal talent trees or specializations) as we were able to in Origins?

I have several concerns, but if I had to pick one, and only one as my biggest, it would be I want Hawke to be "my character", not biowares that I give some minor input too.

An example would be in ME2 where my poor femShep was forced to drool all over Jacob against my will, things like this should not be happening without my input.

I'm concerned that you're cutting alot of character customization. And I think adding VO for the main character is going to detract alot from making Hawke your own character. I feel like I'm gonna be playing your character and not mine. The more freedom I have to make my own character the better. I prefer the old text style, without a voice over. I don't want to play midevil Mass Effect, I want to play a sequel to Dragon Age.

That the facial expressions in the videos aren't looking of the quality of, say, LotSB.

My biggest concern is that there will be bugs in the game that will NEVER be fixed. DAO and DAA both still have some bugs in the game that have gone unfixed (Vigilance, Jowan's Quest, etc.) so I'm concerned that DA2 will meet the same fate.

My main concern as well. Developers giving up on bugs to push new product sucks. Bioware kept on releasing Origins DLC  while many bugs remained in the game. Left a bad taste.

Most of my concerns have already been mentioned, but still will just add my voice with summary..
1/ Luck of Toolset is my biggest disappointment, if there was no toolset in DAO I would not have been playing the game till today.
2/ Worried that game will have much lesser interaction among companions since it was already stated that it will not be as long as DAO. I am just worried that it is just going to be little more modified Awakening.
3/ Worried also that game stability and performance will have same issues like in DAO.
4/ Worried that if there should be DLCs for it ( which I almost bet there will be ) will not be as bad as most of the DAO ones.
5/ Finally, sincerely hoping that romance will have much better options than what Mass Effect series did (mentioned Mass Effect cause I am having a very strong feeling that game is kinda headed that way).

Once again, I know almost all if not all has already been mentioned, so forgive me all for stating it again, but had to give my 2 cents:)

Personally have many concerns, but the main issue here is what Brockololly & Celawyn adresses.
I will use those post to voice my concern...they desribes things better than I ever can.

THE PC VERSION:

How is it going to actually play to the strengths of the PC as a platform and how, specifically, is the PC version of Dragon Age II going to be a better PC game than Dragon Age: Origins?

Pretty broad, but specific things like having robust hotkeys, being able to scroll through menus and such with the mouse wheel, how the new Tactical camera will work on PC, whether or not the textures on the PC will be gimped by the console memory limitations like ME2 was (having good head textures that turn into a muddy mess below the neck), DRM, possible Direct X 11, whether or not there is any serious consideration being iven to a toolset update- all of those sorts of PC-centric questions.

Basically, despite claiming that Dragon Age II is being developed "simultaneously" across all 3 platforms, Origins was built as a PC game first and it felt like it- is Dragon Age II on PC going to feel or look like its been handcuffed by the technical limitations of the consoles?

Celawyn wrote...

My main concern is PC combat game-play.

I liked the top-down/isometric view, pause-and-play, tactical party-based
combat of DAO. I don't like action-oriented, console-type combat. The
changes to DA2 combat are of great concern to me.

Hoping for a well-optimized PC version!

Thank you for your time.

paraphrase system

This, I hate having to guess my way through dialog. It works with Mass effect as it's more of a cinematic game, and to be hoenst, I dont really look at it as much of an RPG anymore so it's not that big of a deal.

In an RPG like Dragon age, having to try out all options to figure out exactly what Hawke will say is going to be a NIGHTMARE for me, I still shudder dreaming of mass effect days when I had to reload three times all convo's to learn which would suit me best to choose.

I really dont like it, and I hope some kind of alternative will be put in place, the icon isnt enough, I still dont know WHAT he will say.

I would suggest checking out "The Longest Journey: Dreamfall" to see an example of diffrenet paraphrase system.

It had paraphrases, but when you hovered your mouse over it, it added additional text to it.

That sounds intelligent. That is the only thing I am worried about with DA II, you chose a dialogue option and what your Hawke says is not what you want.

Just an example of what I think DA II dialogues will be:

- Speak to me now!
- Just speak.
- Gold to speak.

You chose "Speak to me now!"

Hawke: "*Grabs NPC* Speak now! Or I'll cut your throat and feed your balls to your mabari!"

Having some text open up in an box somewhere on screen when highlighting a dialogue option would be good. Bioware knew surely that many would have liked that in ME2 after the feedback they got from ME but they still didn't put such an feature in. Hopefully DA II has such a feature.

My biggest worry is the lenght of the game. since it appearantly has more voice over stuff, which makes the game more expensive and also shorter. Good 25 hours shold do nicely (by which i mean, that a nice playthrough would mean 26h). When i played the first mass effect game, i felt that it had the right amount of missions and depth to be a great game (which it is). So yeah, 25h should be the minimum lenght of the game.

Plain and simple, the lack of depth/customization that you all have shown for the character overall.

This means class specialization, wield styles, and equipment customization.

I was hoping that with your companions having one base look through the game, once they "upgrade" they may get a little visual upgrade as well, i.e. heavier leather or something of the sort. Playing through a massive, epic adventure with characters looking the exact same ir rather boring...

My main concern is the lack of visual options when it comes to companions.

In my opinion, a fantasy setting has a larger emphasis on collecting awesome gear when compared to a sci-fi setting.  This makes sense because in sci-fi's, guns and armor are normally made by the bulk and don't have unique properties.  This is the main reason why I didn't mind the streamlining of the inventory and companion gear so much in the Mass Effect Series.  That series is a cinematic sci-fi experience, and a great one at that.

I would love for Dragon Age 2 to also be cinematic.  I think that the direction you guys are moving in will make for a epic tale of action, adventure, and romance.  However, I think that customization is still something that needs to be kept in high regard, especially in a fantasy game.  When it comes to companions, I am worried that there will be too few options.

In Origins, I could keep Morrigan in her robes, or put her in some different mage robes, perhaps Chasind.  That was a choice I could make.  Perhaps you may say that Morrigan would never wear anything but her own clothes, and I might agree.  So a solution would be to limit companion outfits, which is not a bad choice.  Where my concern comes in, is in the different looks of the companions.  For example, so far I have seen two outfits for Bethany, and they both look great.  I love how they aren't re-skins of eachother, but are two unique outfits.  This is great, but I don't want only two.  Ideally, at least 5 or 6 unique outfits for each companion would be grand, but I know this is not likely, and that saddens me.  What saddens me more is the possibility of only having one or two different looks for some companions.  Having different visual customization for the NPC's makes a game more re-playable.  Since NPC's seem to have a "thing" in combat they do well, and no options to really break out of their mold, (Which makes perfect sense to me) we should still be able to customize their appearence.   Having the NPC's be so static with no options to influence their choices and have that represented visually, seems like it will give re-plays less flare.

To better make the NPC's seem like real people, it would make sense for them to not be at the mercy of the PC when it came to clothing.  But I am afraid that what this will equal, is having, let's say, the first year with Bethany be with her in outfit #1, then next year she is in outfit #2.  This is fine, but I want the option, if my approval with her was high enough or something, to ask her to go back to outfit #1.  Or maybe have the companion have one outfit to start, but as they go through the story, they gain different looks and those outfits are added to the "closet" of choices for us to equip them with.  This may seem trivial, but it would take me out of the story if over the years companions are limited to marching to fight with Hawke in the same stuff they used when they first met.  I would like the option to keep them in their first outfit, but I don't want to be forced to do it.  I want them to have the possibility of growing visually.  Obviously my points are based on speculation, but I don't have much else to go off of.

I can't imagine implementing 3-5 unique outfits per character as that difficult to do, but alas, I don't know anything about creating videogames.  If it is something not too difficult to put in, I would enjoy having a few more choices when it came to the looks of companions, especially when it came to multiple playthroughs.  Maybe my Maker loving Templar Hawke who romances Isabella doesn't want her flaunting her goods, so he kindly asks her to dress more conservatively.  Alternativly, maybe my Dwarf loving free spirit Hawkette wants Varric to wear a fishnet top so his chest hair would be able to be admired by her.  Those are poor exaples, but you get the idea.  And when I say 3-5 unique outfits, I don't mean re-skins, and I don't mean packaging them in DLC.  I would like at least 3-5 outfits in the actual game.  Then more can be added with DLC.

By the way, I appreciate your passion in your products Bioware, and I also appreciate this thread.  I am sure I will love Dragon Age 2.  Even more-so if I have some companion visual customization. ;)

My greatest fear is that DA2 will be lean on character interaction given its shorter length and voiced protagonist. The "Mass Effect" games had few unique dialogues which led to much of the cast coming across as underdeveloped. Will party members have as much breadth and depth as in Origins, or is DA2 closer to the "Mass Effect" series or "Awakening"?

This is my concern as well.

In DA:O, my protagonist became attached to the characters and I found myself genuinely concerned with their happiness. I looked forward to every conversation and gave them gifts even at maximum approval just because they would make their happy sounds. Alistair had me at hello, but my affection for him and most of the rest of the cast only increased throughout the game. Choosing between Alistair and Zevran was torture. I've played through the entire game, doing every side quest, at least four times.

It was harder for me to become immersed in Awakenings. I was unable to finish the game. Part of that was the necessity of playing through at least part of the game with Velanna, but mostly, it was because the companions didn't draw me in as much. I would have loved the opportunity to get to know Anders and Nathaniel better... especially Anders... but it never happened. I cannot make comparisons with Mass Effect at all, since I was unable to play more than an hour or two of it without losing interest. To be fair, a lot of that has to do with my lack of appreciation for futuristic science fiction, but the game would have retained my interest longer if I cared about the characters.

I have great faith in the writers' ability to create characters we can love. My big concern is that we will see enough to base the affection on interaction instead of potential.

I'm worried about choice and story import from DA:O.

I found the Awakening import to be really clunky and not that useful (US fiasco didn't help).

I can't help but feel that Bioware painted themselves in a corner and import will either be without real consequences or be limited once again to select categories of character / decisions.

Here's hoping i'm wrong, since "world continuity" was one of the selling point of DA:O for me :P

The import system not working properly, getting halfway through and meeting king Alastair of Ferelden when in my version he's a deadbeat drunk for example. I'm not expecting every choice and decision to feature in DA2 but I want the ones that do show up to match correctly, and as Yzzid says above I want real consequences and continuity.

I have the same concern. I am scared that we won’t be as free to roam the world as we
like and be stuck playing a strict predetermined path.

I need to feel like I have control of my character's path and not like its been
already chosen for me

The one thing that's troubling me is the potential absence of a toolset. I realise we're highly unlikely to hear one way or another until after the game is released, but the game being moddable is important to me. The handful of other things I don't like about DA2 so far (Isabela's lack of pants, for instance) could be easily fixed with a mod.

Also, it has to be said that the toolest has been used to fix a lot of bug in Dragon Age. I would be a lot crankier about things like Alistair being king all the time (and possibly invisible!) if there wasn't an easily accessible community patch to correct that stuff.

Another vote for importing from DAO, this is my only real worry, since it hasn't been handled very well as yet. At the very least, please could we have a screen at the start of the game that shows what our decisions were, like in ME2. Better still would be the option to confirm whether those choices are correct in the form of a questionnaire.

When I get DA2, I don't want to be forced to replay DAO & expansions first because an important decision hasn't carried over.

My concern deals with the combat part of DA2. In DAO, I was able to "pause" the game in combat, and select my targets and decide which talent/spell I wanted to use. I like this slowed down pace option, because it gives me time to think and figure out my play.

My brother in law was playing ME and he mentioned that you couldn't "pause" for combat. You just had to "run and gun". I don't play the run and gun style because it makes me dizzy!

I saw an interview with a bioware rep, and he mentioned that in DA2, we could choose which combat style we wanted. Does that mean that I can choose between a "pause" style like in DAO and a "run and gun" style as in other games?

If I can't pause the game during combat as in DAO, I won't be able to physically play the game, which will be a bummer because I dearly enjoy playing DAO.

Although I haven't been worried about the upcoming changes in general, I guess the only thing I'm interested in knowing is how much interaction will we have with our companions. As most of us agree, Awakening left a lot to be desired. I can live with not being able to talk to companions directly while on a quest if that's how things will be, but what extent will we have in "camp"? Will it be like Mass Effect and after every major mission you can go to your squad and have a single conversation and nothing more until after the next mission? Or will it be more of a nice balance and not let you exhaust all dialog choices in one conversation?

This ^^

I'm concerned about the lack of tactical camera. If the camera is attached to the currently controlled character, it might make micromanaging your entire party bothersome. Jumping between different characters and their viewpoints sounds a lot less elegant than the limited free roam we had in Origins.
