I've pretty much decided on a Human Female Noble at this point. I played through my characters' origin and acquired a set of family heavy armor as well as a sword, stuff that I honestly don't remember being around the first time I played through the noble origin. Unfortunately, I have to restart now.
Which brings me to my question. I have an image in my head of a female warrior that is sort of graceful and wears lighter armor. The problem is that that sounds more like a theif type of character, which isn't what I'm particularly interested in. I also like the idea of the armor I acquired from our castle, but I generally prefer lighter stuff as a role player. Using Aragorn of Lord of the Rings as an example, I was thinking more of a light armor most of the time but heavy armor in the big battles. But, from a gameplay standpoint is that even viable? Even though I can't think of many people who would actually parade around in their family armor when they don't want to be obvious about it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Human female warrior?

Not sure what you mean exactly. Do you mean have armor x for most of the game then change to armor y for what... the Landsmeet and Final Battle? It would be as viable as you'd like it to be. Three-four spots on you inventory kept to the other set.
Fatigue and differing bonuses would be a bit of an issue, but otherwise it's not particularly a hard thing to do if you're willing to trade off for looks/roleplaying reasons.

I pretty much want to know what skills and abilities, maybe even class would be most effective with the general character outline. I don't particularly like the idea of a tank character, I find that somewhat boring. But, at the same time, I don't want my main character to be a liability and I want her to be able to hold her own.
Also, I wonder if a warrior type of character would be penalized in anyway for wearing armor that isn't for their class. Like light armor. FYI, I never actually finished the game at all as I couldn't give 100% concentration at the time and that is how I prefer to play. So, I'm really not very well schooled on the rules of the classes.

None of the armor is restricted by class, just by a strength requirement to wear it. Some of the trees lend more toward Massive plate, true. (Two-handed weapon) But all the types can use it. There are, as far as I am concerned anyways, only two reasons to get heavy/massive armor. The first being the best looking armors in the game are heavy/massive. (The most important reason, actually.
) While the second is you know they're going to be taking a lot of pounding.
Dual-Wielding warriors can get by famously with light/medium and some heavy armors, as long as you don't expect them to be a party tank, but since you just said you don't it shouldn't be an issue.
http://dragonage.wik...Dragon_Age_Wiki has a full list of the armors and various bonuses they'll impart. It sound like you're leaning toward having your noble be the nimble, lightning-quick fighter, and with the dual wielding warrior tree being rather talent spam heavy, light/medium armor would actually benefit more.

I actually didn't intend to use dual wielding, to be honest. I thought about 2-handed, but after toying around with it in the origin I discovered it was ridiculously slow. I had more of a faster, sort of like how a jedi in Knights of the Old Republic fights, fighting style in mind. But, when it takes 5 full seconds to swing a sword..well, it isn't what I had in mind.
I'm also considering a sword and shield character, mixing in bow and arrows as a secondary weapon. The problem is that shields sort of go against the idea I have for the character, which is the lightning quick style that you mentioned. Alternatively, just using a one handed sword without a shield sounds some what foolish.
I may have to consider dual-wielding, though I'm not to keen on the idea. I've never been a fan aesthetically of it, to be honest. Either way, I'm definitely going with warrior. Even though many people seem to find the rogue class easier for the first play through. But, i've got a very specific character in mind and I aim to run with it.

Yeah, that's why I said dual wield. The other options just don't fit otherwise. Two-handed is slow and totally dependent on the activated abilities and sword and shield is 2/3s passives/sustainable shield talents. I'd love to have a single hand weapon only tree, but... *shrug*

I remember there being a mod for Baldur's Gate 2 that allowed the characters to use a one handed sword as a two handed sword, allowing them to use the abilities that applied to 2h swords while still keeping the speed of the 1h swords. Of course, 2h weapons were still faster in that game than in DA. I think.
It may severely unbalance the game if someone made a mod like that, I guess.

A 2-hander in light armour should be fine as long as you have another character Tank and make sure your main character's hostility is lower than that of your Tank. I would recommend Sten for that role. Putting him in massive armour, giving him Taunt and Threaten, and upping his Strength and Constitution should let him take hits for you and keep his hostility high enough that your lightly armoured main character doesn't get hurt too badly.
The trick comes with building your character so you can make the switch you want to massive armour. Unless you pump a lot into Constitution (which won't work well with the light armour earlier), it could prove a bit difficult. You will definitely need a good healer...

Yeah, and it's very easy (at least for me) to run out of healing potions in the early parts of the game. Honestly, I have no idea what you mean by hostility sith. I'm assuming it has something to do with the chances of being attacked?

More or less. It's the level of interest the opposing AI has for you. The higher your threat is, the most likely you are to be attacked. Massive armor makes more then Heavy, which makes more the Medium.. etc. Attacks generate/add to it as well. The bigger the damage number the higher the threat. Taunt overrides most of it and brings enemy focus to the taunter. Threaten adds some to every attack.

Sounds like a potentially useful stat that I'll have to make use of later. I guess I'll get around to finally creating the character, I'll probably spend forever just customizing my appearance. I'm leaning towards dual wielding, but I'm still not 100% where I'm going to go with this.

Sounds like Red Sonja w/o the steel bikini. Main emphasis on Dex but with enough Str to wear the massive armor when called upon. She'd also be quite good with a bow.

Yeah, alot like Red Sonja. Only not trapped in a crappy movie and, hopefully, hotter.

The film is being remade (and there was MUCH rejoicing), and the Battledress or Felon's Coat should be fine for long term usage, as my own 2H uses such in the early stages until I veer towards Evon's mail.

Felon's is better long term. Use the Battledress until then. Or get some custom armor from dragonagenexus so you can actually look good and not be in the same leather texture but two colors different.

Actually I already have the Phoenix and Dalish Ceremonial armor downloaded, I should have mentioned that.

Well, it seems the game won't let me load because it isn't recognizing the premium downloads like Return to Ostagar. What a bunch of bull, looks like I'm forced to restart yet again..

Ah. That 'issue'. If it persists move/delete the profile.dao file from your my documents/bioware/dragon age/settings folder. That will force the game to check what you have registered online and make a new listing.

Yeah, i'll do that. Though I just went ahead and unchecked the downloads so it wouldn't affect me. I'm more worried about actually playing the main game than extra content.

There are some tricks to speed up 2H. In-game you can have a mage running Haste, also the Power of Blood abilities from Warden's Keep DLC (Avernus' nasty cocktail) are supposed to speed up 2H. There is also a mod that speeds it up.
Dual wield is fun, though. I usually play rogues but I respec Alistair to DW warrior. I usually give him the "power" abilities like Cripple and Punisher in addition to his War Cry and Holy Smite, all of which makes him pretty BAMF.

It only works in the Origin campaign though, for Awakening you're down to Blood Thirst and Haste.

If you're going for light infantry stick with weapon and shield or archery. Use an axe and a buckler and roll with light to med armor and upgrade to Wade's Superior Dragonscale and Evon's Great Mail for big battles.
