Hi.

I'm a Steam user, and acquired Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 through the service.

I just set up a new computer (old one died), and just finished installing Mass Effect 2 through Steam.

When I start the game, I get the following:

It wants to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005.

Then the following error: Another program is being installed. Please
wait until that installation is complete, and then try installing this
software again.
==followed by==
Which is then followed by the error: Failed to initialize the physics
system. Pleasue ensure you have an updated version of the PhysX System
Software installed.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you!

EDIT:
Further info I forgot I left out.

-AMD Phenom II x6 1045T 2.70ghz
-8gb of DDR3 (Do not recall clock speed)
-ATI Radeon HD 5570

-WDDM 1.1
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Your search for « PhysX » returned 31 result/s.

1.  Did you ever perform the action Windows is asking for, and allow it to restart itself?

2.  What did you learn from any of those 31 threads?

Actually, I resolved the "Another program is being installed" problem. It was Windows, installing updates. >.<

However, I still have the PhysX problem, which I've found is a problem specific to ATI cards.

So I still need advice on that.

Thank you!

Just download and install PhysX. Or you can go to ME2 dvd, "software" dir and install PhysX from there. Re-boot may be needed as well.

He bought it through Steam so he has no DVD.

But there should probably be a Physx installer in one of the folders anyway.

It has nothing at all to do with the graphics card selection, AMD or nVIDIA.

Sure it does. PhysX is an nVidia product, and I am using an ATI card. ATI does not come with PhysX, and now that I have installed it, it continues to harass me with the error that my PhysX is out of date. I just installed the newest version. :(

PhysX is just like Havok and a couple of other game add-ons. Just because nVIDIA bought out the inventor doesn't change what it is. Look it up. Use the forum archives as they should be used.
