The default Shepard is the best looking (in a totally none gay way) male Shep in the game, imo. No matter how good a custom Shep I make is, it's never as good as the default male Shepard. I woud like to be able to customise his appearance though, have the same face but change his haircut, change his eye colour, give him a shave, or a bit more facial hair, give him some scars ect. Bioware please let us do this.
What do you guys think?
I always play with a custom Shepard but I almost inevitably have problems with parts of the face. I'd love to use the default as a starting point. That way I can add the distinct features I want and, theoretically, have the parts I find difficult covered already.

I do agree, though. I never play a custom male Shepard; it's almost impossible to create one that is even remotely close to the default in detail. So I just stick with Sheploo and have been since ME1.

Shepard's appearance by default is always still better than any of your own image. A real prototype for the Commander, it seems, served as a Dutch actor and a super model Mark Wanderlei.
But I think that image is not so important. Characters of the hero define its identity. So - Two gamer's can't create two identical Shepard. His individual story (for every gamer's) - the main good luck of the developers of the game . I tried using the music "summarize" Shepard’s story. If you're interested - take a look:

The only other thing that's needed is the texture. Potentially, there could be problems here as the scans they use for the default male Shepard are much more detailed than the ones a custom Shepard can use, which could mean that anything more than subtle changes might lead to texture stretching etc.
There also may be legal issues, but I don't know how likely this is. With sports games, for example, you're often not allowed to edit a real player's face because of the legalities of image rights. I wouldn't think that's an issue here, but you never know.

Of course, you're right. Technically, everything is possible. Can draw a mustache to the face of the
"Gioconda"… But if you draw a scar on the face of Mark Wanderlei ... I would, in his place, took offense. Of course, there may be legal problems. Should be checked.
