Seriously, marketing's a part of any big game, but I'm not sure I'm part of the demographic of this game if they're targetting people who'd fall for a line like that.

She says you can play as a male or female Hawke.
"In Dragon Age 2, you play the story of Hawke during his or her rise to power."
I guess I misheard her. In that case, strike that part. Still a pointless video though.

I Have to say, DA2 has very lousy marketing.
* "You press a button - something awesome happens!"
* "Think like a general, but fight like a Spartan."
Both of these Are Terrible
Yes they are, but it's true in a way. Bioware are enchancing the combat, but are still keeping the tactics for us

My favorite quote from all this HOT ROD SAMURAI! nonsense was from Matt Goldman in the PC Gamer DA2 article :
Uh-oh.It was pretty hard to tell elves and humans apart, so we’ve done a lot of work to make them different from one another.

We hope.
And the marketing was terrible for Dragon Age Origins too... well, it was to us. Seemed to have worked on the common folk though, so I guess it was actually awesome marketing. Maybe this is too, how the hell would I know?

I remember in my experience ME2 was pretty much anticipated happily in unison no matter the site.
lol how cute, you things think you're better than the me2 group? you're both filled equally with winey hipster brats who don't know jack about anything but won't ever let that stop you from crying endlessly over every little thing
"oh so and so is ugly by a completely diffrent relm of standards, oh i hate this despite knowing nothing of it, oh this is gonna be bad, oh bioware doesn't care, oh i know everything bout game development despite being an armchair developer" see? i just summarized this entire threads worth of posts. Now go compare it to ANY ME2 thread and see the mirror like effect, it's mind boggling hey?
This year's award for "Most Sarcastic Quote on BW Forum" goes to this guy..

What happens if Joe New Fan looks at your commercial and happens not to care about this feature? Ignores the game. Stupid over-the-top marketing is designed to funnel people to information sources. Whether that is effective or not, we'll see.

As for the phrasing, It could be worse, it could be all about...
"Kicking ass with the Force" *shudders at the cringeworthy phrase used often for TFU and TFU2 by LA devs.. and to some extent in regards the Jedi class in SWG when they did the NGE*
I doubt we'll hear anything new till January at earliest and even then we'll still get the re-hashed line about 'Thinking like a General, fighting like a Spartan' and all the other stuff, Marketing is most likely never going to change in that regards.
Can't remember at the moment what the DAO ones were (other than the obvious song reference) but it had them as well IIRC

Bah I am looking forward to playing my mage with the emphasis of thinking like a Spartan and fightiing like a General. That way everytime I do press a button something awesome will happen, because that is what happens when Generals fight. Much more so than when Spartans fight whilst thinking like Generals.
You do realise that usually Generals don't fight.

Mostly I chalk it up to BW not showing jack all about the actual game.. Seriously, this close to the end of the dev cycle and we have a couple leaked gameplay vids from "old build" demos that "don't represent actual gameplay", some screenshots, some very basic info aaannnddd that's about it..
But the builds do represent actual gameplay. Just not on the PC. If you're going to criticize Bioware, at least nail them on what hey're doing wrong (i.e. ignoring PC gameplay).
Bioware has to start releasing info soon along with a larger marketing push during the holidays or else I forsee this game doing far worse on sales than BW hopes. Most AAA titles at this stage in the game have numerous gameplay vids and in-depth previews. People are jonsing for some real information rather than the thousanth utterance of "press a button and something awesome happens". Plus the changes announced are fairly drastic for a sequal and yet peoples fears haven't been waylayed by BW showing and telling.
The changes from DA:O to DA:2 are on the whole not that different from the changes from TW to TW2, so we have precedent for this sort of change in a AAA RPG release right now.
That aside, Bioware does not release gameplay footage that easily. They did the same thing with DA:O.

George Patton just pulled out his revolver and personally shot a few rounds at this post.
"Fight like a gladiator, think like a corporal" probably didn't have the same ring to it, anyway.
... and "Fight like Lieutenant Patton, think like General Patton" would have just been too obscure.

I'd rather think like a philosopher and fight like a Theben.
And when I press a button I think I'd like something sexual to happen instead of something awesome.

* New artstyle "It's grimmer. It's bloodier. It's sexier."
* "You press a button - something awesome happens!"
* "Think like a general, but fight like a Spartan."
Desire to tear eyes out increasing!
You know what's less irritating than Bioware's PR? Teletubbies, that's what. I wish I were 11-16 year old horny male. I'd slide nicely in the middle of marketing demographic and thus fail to find all of this incredibly ****ing stupid. Would mean skin problems though:(
