Ok this is my first post and I can't find anything on the internet about this issue so I hope you guys can help.

I am running ME2 on a Dell Studio laptop running Win7 - only 6 or so months old.  I am a local administrator and Up until now game has run perfectly without a hitch and I'm not afraid to say I've been a bit obsessed with it :-)

I put the laptop to sleep (not shutdown) last night after playing ME2, but couldn't start it up again (so this means it crashed at some point) so did the 'hold the power button in for a few seconds' trick to reboot.

After reboot, I started up ME2 only to find it was asking for my EAOnline details again, and once I put them in the 'Resume' option was not in the menu meaning it is not recognising my save games.

I checked the "C:\\Users\\<myname>\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\" location and my save game is there with the right date/time stamp of last night when I was playing.

I then checked the \\BIOGame\\Config\\GamerSettings.ini file and the location entry under the "SaveGames" section was empty - so I tried putting in the path (above) manually but it didn't work.

Also I noticed that every time I restart it keeps asking for my EAOnline details - so it's like it is getting reinitialised every time it starts.

HELP Please!?!?  I'm getting desperate - I really don't want to re-do my game!

I am thinking that if I reinstall ME2 and put my save game in manually, will that work?  Or what about if I start a new game, save it  and overwrite with my old game - will that work?

Thanks in advance...

Sorry I should also say that it's the Steam version with the extra content (can't remember the exact name)

The path in GamerSettings.ini is for ME1 saves.

Location=C:\\Users\\-censored-\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save

But if your ME2 saves are present, it should work. Re-installing the game will surely help, although I'd try moving your saves out of that folder, then start a new game, and save as soon as you can. Then just copy your savegames back.

Hi kronner,

Thanks for that info. I started a new game and saved it just after shepard 'woke up' - and now I can select my previous career and the save games where I couldn't before... weird but it worked so I'm very grateful - thanks!

Sounds to me like some central file keeping track of careers got corrupted. I know the same could happen in ME1 if your MassEffectProfile file got corrupted. Anyhow, glad to hear you got it sorted. :)

Thanks Kloreep and Kronner. And for everyone else - if you have to do this it resets your achievements
