Creating faces in DA:O was like messing around with FaceGen. You had plenty of room to create radically different faces.
In contrast, in ME2 it seemed impossible to get away from a specific facial structure. Whatever you did, all the faces look awfully similar. It's as if BW had a definite idea of what Shepard should look like and didn't want people to play drastically different Shepards.
So I'm wondering which approach DA2 is going to take. I'd personally much prefer the DA:O system, but am concerned that given that DA2 is all about Hawke, it'll go down the ME2 route.
Face customisation: like DA:O or ME2?

At PAX, we weren't able to change appearance, but we could still see all the sliders, and they looked to be about the same as in Origins, if that helps.

Yeah this was the same for me as well. If anything it seems like they are adding stuff (new beards etc.)

Considering they apparently totally redid the face morph system, who knows how flexible the new system will be- I'd imagine its closer to Origins than ME given the difference in engines. I don't think it'll be ME levels of bland as I think thats an issue with the Unreal engine more than anything. Then again, you have the whole buggy eyes, massive jaw/chin issue with most everyone we've seen so far in screens for DA2 so its kind of up in the air.

I believe Mike Laidlaw said (here) that it's about the same level as Origins was.

I actually thought ME2's facial creator had a lot of flexibility, but I thought the same for DAO. I am hoping DA2's is superior to both. I am also hoping DA2 offers the numerical codes for facial creation like ME2 did. That was a fantastic feature that allowed the community to share sexy faces!

No. DA:O was definitly better. ME1 & 2 are a pain. And the noses.........BioWare need to work on those.

I guess that works as crowd control commenting. I would like to hear what they do plan to work on for the new one. But then again, it could cause more 'outrage' and turn off a good portion of potential consumers.
But that's assuming I got even close to a solid answer. It isn't their job to give me up-to-the-minute updates on Customization.

I found both ME1/2 and DAO had too few eyes and nose options. I would love to see more options for every facial feature in DA2.

The problem with origins face gen system was that there were no good presets. If the default hawk is anything to go by, it should be really good. I've only once created a good character in origins, me2 was far better.

I want more hair options. And physics for ponytails, dammit.

Love the face gen codes, it's such a simple idea that works. I would also like a way of saving a face so you can go back to it if you don't like the changes you have made.

No 20 minute cinematics before character creating please! Or, give us an autosave point before character creating so we don't have to rewatch the cinematic.

They'd have to be extremely long face codes, if it's as detailed as DAO.

I just hope the faces aren't as long as in DA:O, at least for the male models.

Oh. Right.
Well. Uh.
Hmm. Problem.
BioWare can find a way.

I seem to recall Laidlaw saying some sliders were "longer."
