Will there be tattoos? Hmmm...

I think tattoos are about as guaranteed as beards. What would the Champion of Kirkwall be without some ink?

They'd have to be extremely long face codes, if it's as detailed as DAO.

That would really depend on how the code itself is constructed, I would think.  There are methods of representing data in more concise forms.  How did ME2's face code system work, exactly?

Creating faces in DA:O was like messing around with FaceGen. You had plenty of room to create radically different faces.

In contrast, in ME2 it seemed impossible to get away from a specific facial structure. Whatever you did, all the faces look awfully similar. It's as if BW had a definite idea of what Shepard should look like and didn't want people to play drastically different Shepards.

So I'm wondering which approach DA2 is going to take. I'd personally much prefer the DA:O system, but am concerned that given that DA2 is all about Hawke, it'll go down the ME2 route.

Are you kidding me.  Every DA face is the same, but with different hair.  You have a set number of defaults and the only way to look different is to make a hideous or goofy looking avatar.  The options were far more varied in ME than DA. Seems like every DA avatar on this forum is same ole same ole.  I have never seen a ME avatar identical to my own.

I believe Mike Laidlaw said (here) that it's about the same level as Origins was.

I did, yep. And will say so again!

Oh, and there's some longer hairs than we had in Origins too. So that's nice. And potentially squee-inducing.

Male, female or both?

Bone in the middle of the brain! How could I forget him, he was basically my favourite DA face, until the 5 seconds it took to have him turn his head to the left.

I really hope our DA2 facial structure presets do not involve physical deformities like DA:O.

I found DA's to better. But maybe thats just my lack of creativity.

I found ME 2 to be easier and Oblivion to be a nightmare. The less chances I had to make my PC look like some inbred Chisand, the better.

Hmmm... question is: Does the longer hair actually move at all though, or is it plastic helmet hair thats glued to the person's head or stays rigid like Leliana's?

If i remember right position of each slider was stored as single digit/letter. Since there isn't that many sliders in DAO in-game character editor i don't think the codes would actually get much longer in comparison. It would be quite handy feature to have, for people who'd want to share their character presets.

Male, female or both?

Question of vital importance.

Boys need pretty locks, too.

I wonder if you can edit the default faces? I really like the female Hawke face that we've seen, but I'd still like to make a few changes to it (nose and chin, maybe haircolor etc).

I asked this a few times and they dodged it by simply answering that you can create your own Hawke, so... I doubt it.

Yeah, it would be nice to know if you implemented hair physics. I'm pretty sure Flemeth's hair moves a little, and Hawke's half-skirt doohickey thingamabob does too.
It wouldn't be a deal-breaker if hair stands still, anyhow. I was fine with it in Origins. As long as we don't end up in the middle of a hurricane and Hawke's hair stands perfectly still (though I'm sure the writers could squeeze a couple of hilarious lines out of that).

Ah, that's too bad then. But if it's like DA:O chargen then shouldn't the default faces be presets? So there's a small chance I guess. If you can't however I hope that you can skip the intro movie (unlike ME2) because I reckon that I'll be remaking my character a few (or few dozen) times before I'm completely satisfied with it

I thought I remember this being answered directly during the Ustream chat @ PAX. I remember the answer being that Default Hawke can be modified. My memory might be inaccurate though..

Well, its only odd when you have longer hair- you look at and use some of the longer hair mods in Origins and the thing that always bugs me is how rigid they are and it just ends up looking goofy. There is a reason why most of the hair styles in Origins were either short or involved having hair tied up or put in a bun or something.

Hell, even KOTOR2 had basic hair movement as I recall.

I'd like to hope for hair physics, but I remember one of the devs saying somewhat facetiously that Flemeth has special hair because they were afraid of what would happen if she didn't, but I would guess there's a grain of truth in there that most characters' hair will not be so flowing.
